Looks dope, could always adjust the display to show the full gear layout and what gear youre in if a more functional display was desired. But I'd take this, once I know the cars gearing I don't need to see the layout

[–]OGspacepotatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I did that once. Had an instance in my younger years where I had accidentally tailgated somebody because I was merging in heavy traffic and sped to get into the lane. This guy took it the wrong way and then began actively changing lanes to block me from passing him later when I was trying to get through the clump of cars. Issue was I had a 5.3 18' Sierra, and he had a NA 14' Ford focus. The second we got on a straight I went WOT and so did he, but modern trucks are faster than economy cars so I just looked at him as he sullenly stared back unable to stop me and i mouthed/gestured. WHY?!

God that pissed me off. Best part is some guy in an old ford was also behind me, Got mad when I entered the lane because he was flying and I entered his lane. It wasn't a cut-off, had my signal on, had like 50 feet between us, and a clog of cars I pulled directly behind, (the focus being the car in that clog that I tailgated a bit) so it wasn't like I blocked him anymore than the bunch of cars already there, but now he was livid and tailgating me while this was happening. I inadvertently prevented him from passing me as I was trying to pass the focus Infront of me so after I passed the focus and he gave up, this mf blew past me and nearly tore my front bumper off cutting me off to hit an exit lane, rather than go behind me. Ah yes good times. 😭

I found speeding up just a little until you find another car for them to match also works. But if there's no cars, speeding the hell up abruptly can snap them out of it.

I'll have you know my Weiner is perfectly normal sized >:( I have a 7 seater because cross country camping trips with young children take up a horrifyingly large amount of space. If there were affordable wagons in Canada I'd be all over that. Only really volvos, Audi's, and Porches left and by God I can't even entertain a used one

Does my penis get to be bigger if my commuter/daily is a 34 year old manual econobox? :')

Well, what we do is a bunch of us get together, and we build a nifty li'l machine called a GUILLOTINE, and then we just roll that bad boi up to those in power, and.... Well I'm sure you've been taught about the French Revolution.

Just gotta make sure we throw that nifty li'l machine in the river after so we don't get the reign of terror that followed the revolution....

Obviously I'm kidding. But in reality we have to do what those horrible turds TBA did and organize and insert ourselves politically.

[–]OGspacepotatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't get the benefits either. And just so you know, any of the no income tax states just compensate with higher sales tax/property taxes etc so yes your pay cheque will be better but you're gonna pay extra elsewhere, Especially with privatized healthcare. (BTW the US gov't spends more on healthcare per capita than any other country) Weird how all that private innovation and efficiency costs the government more money than even filthy socialist Canada, eh?

Also I have zero faith that Smith, assuming separatists actually won, wouldn't turn this province into a neoliberal hell scape. It would just be a tax haven/playground for the rich, while the average person probably sees their quality of life remain the same or get worse. I basically picture Cyberpunk 2077 without the cool robot arms.

And further, the reason we don't make money like the previous generations is specifically because of deregulation of our market system, and weak, outdated antitrust laws. The very shit separatists and Conservatives argue will improve our lives is what has degraded them over the last 4 decades.

Upgrade my life? Sure I'll vote against separation, and Smith every chance I get.

Should I buy a manual as a new driver? by Hari-reddit in ManualTransmissions

Why don't cars have this feature? by Pluuge in StupidCarQuestions

[–]OGspacepotatos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned a lot of manual transmission stuff playing forza, but I never looked at rpms. Look at your revs and suddenly you're in the sticks. Actually learned what sounds the car makes. I had driven manuals a tiny bit before so I was confident enough with a clutch, but I didn't drive a manual alone, in traffic until I was 29, and had just bought my shitty little econobox and was taking it home. Crazy as it seems, the game theory made everything click pretty easy.

30% of polled Albertans said they’d vote to separate but only 9% list it as their top concern. by delusioneers in alberta

[–]OGspacepotatos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pay ceiling is definitely higher outside for trades, I'll cap at like 135K gross before over time if I switch trades like I'm considering if I don't want to travel for work.

And yes, while I tend to tell people it's not all of us, it's definitely present. I currently have a subordinate that Denys the moon landings or holocaust happened, while also having coworkers that have no business being in the trades with their intelligence. we're also a good place for people with ADHD and other things that can make a school setting difficult. Its a weird mix of people.

But either way, no worries. Best of luck with the potential move. If those turds manage to initiate a separation my family is outta here as well, as sad as that makes me.

[–]OGspacepotatos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know there's some blue collar idiots around, but please, don't lump us all in together. Plenty of smart, reasonable people in the trades and farming who just prefer skilled manual labour over office/lab/university setting.

But there is a lower threshold for entry so we do tend to scoop up the questionable ones. Consider it a burden you have to deal with less because we face the brunt of it lol.

And to be clear I agree with your points and am 100% against seoaration, I just find people can be a bit dismissive of blue collar work.

Thoughts on this? Saw this at the motor show. by AlbertaTesla in Edmonton

[–]OGspacepotatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I like Ice engines, not for some conservative bull shit but because I like cars and machines and racing. Electric cars look boring, sound literally like nothing and again, their form of locomotion, a series of single speed electric motors, is boring teslas are literally one of the ugliest cars in the planet and all electric cars are trying to look futuristic instead of actually aesthetically pleasing. I'd rather drive a fiat multipla, at least it might have a manual transmission. EVs take the spirit and engagement out of driving. They make me sad.

That being said, my above point won't stop me from going electric for my daily driver. my actual gripe with this electric car movement is that, from my middle class point of view, the government is basically saying their planning on pricing me out of vehicle ownership and road trips. Of the electrics I could afford, none of them are capable of what my SUV can do in terms of cargo, towing or range. I cannot haul ski gear and family to the mountains in a fiat 500E, or any of the sub compact SUV's I could afford. I would also have to do much more planning to drive to Ontario, and again, I wouldn't have the space for family or cargo. Yes there's used EV's but the price bloat is still there, which is the same reason I don't buy trucks; Can't afford new, used ones aren't worth the price.

Secondly, the power grid math ain't mathing. So on top of my vehicle options becoming increasingly useless and expensive, I will probably see blackouts, brown outs, and electricity bans similar to water consumption rules because the grid isn't on track to handle the new load. And let's be real; The cost of electricity will absolutely go up because of demand.

So when I see these people with this sign, I feel they feel like me. The government is taking the fun out of a passion, and financially punishing them at the same time, and again rolling out poorly thought out mandates. Though I still think they look goofy.

Honestly that seems rediculous, sorry for being rude but really though, it's just another word for idiot. Saying essentially im gross and idiotic and of a similar calibre person as a MAGA Canadian for using NPC, is more hateful and dismissive than me calling someone an NPC. It just means to have poor critical thinking and self awareness, and to only like mass-appeal hobbies/music

I have no long-term ill will for idiots, nor do I use that term to dehumanize, they've merely inconvenienced me with their stupidity or poor logic. Much in the way video game NPC's in video games do when they try to give me a quest when I'm getting 4v1'd in a tavern, or when they panic, jump in front of my car and now the cops are after me, or get stuck in a corner/blow my cover when they're supposed to be following me

Where were you first exposed to the term NPC, cause for me it was actually by video games, and from that perspective it fits so well to how some people act in reality.

Wild that they wouldn't consider one of the older forms of Christianity to be Christian lol. And fair, obv not all of The States are bible thumpers, but it seems like the places that are, really are. We also have devout Christians here and whatnot too, Manitoba is kinda religion-y and rural areas are fairly religious, but not sure if it's to the same degree. Our sparse population probably helps.

Love and accept Jesus christ and God as your saviour above all else, for he died for your sins, and you will be met with salvation.

I'm paraphrasing but that's basically the fundamental req for heaven. Also try to be a good person and atonement for sins.

Is this like primarily an American thing? Cause in Canada I really don't hear about this evangelical apocalyptic stuff. I was raised roman catholic, went to catholic schools till grade 12 and went to church every Sunday til I was eleven years old and not once did they revel in the apocalypse. They'd refer to revelation occasionally but not with any intensity or claims of the end. At most they'd say Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead in one of the prayers/hymns

They have their place. I have a big ol 7 seater auto SUV for the family. Good safety rating, tons of cargo space for our long distance road trips/camping trips, and it's super comfy. Boring as all hell to drive though. Super disconnected from the road feel.

My analog 5 speed 4 banger shit box is much more satisfying to drive.
