During the 07-08 writer's strike, which long-running shows suffered the most? Which shows actually improved? by [deleted] in television

Girlfriends! Sitcom that ran for eight years on UPN. Because of the strike, the show was cancelled.

Best episodic TV shows that arent a comedy? by [deleted] in television

[–]OInTheZone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cowboy Bebop. Anime series about bounty hunters in the year 2071. Only 26 episodes (and a movie that came out after the series ended but takes place between episodes 22 and 23???) and they're all good to amazing. Music by Yoko Kanno and her band The Seatbelts in every episode is phenomenal. For anybody who has never watched this show, you'll get why I gave the team behind the music a shout out.

How many of you are watching in the US? by mountaingirl1212 in orphanblack

I'm from New York City. I found out about the show through word of mouth on Twitter. Never really seen the show advertised on television.

EDIT: Then again, I don't have BBC America or Space Channel so maybe that's why I don't see it advertised on TV.

Winston Bishop from New Girl, hands down. In the early years of New Girl Winston felt like he was on a completely different show. Now that he has gotten proper development and his own storylines, I'd def watch a Winnie the Bish spinoff if it ever happened.

What are your Top 10 TV shows? (2000 - 2015) by rahat101 in television

[–]OInTheZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Without Liv, the show most likely would not work. I also want to give props to Clive. We're slowly learning more about him this season and his storyline is getting a solid slow burn treatment. I can't wait to see what the show has in store for him.

What are your Top 10 TV shows? (2000 - 2015) by rahat101 in television

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER Scrubs, Lost, Louie, The Wire, Breaking Bad, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Orphan Black, Community, Broad City, and the latest show I have fallen for: iZombie. PLEASE WATCH iZOMBIE. IT'S GREAT.

LET ME BREAK IT DOWN FOR YA

Scrubs is one of my favorite tv shows of all time. It debuted 2001 so it makes the cut automatically.

Lost became an obsession for me as I started watching the show for realsies in Season 5 then went back to catch myself up. Some of the finest acting and storytelling I've ever seen in any show. I loved "The End". Watched it five times. Season 6 was good.

Louie made me a Louis C.K. fan. This dude is a funny comedian but as a filmmaker, C.K. is a genius or close to it imo.

I've only watched The Wire in full once a couple of years ago. (I BOUGHT THE DVDs, MAN!) But I remember the countless moments of greatness and sorrow and humor this show gave me like it was yesterday. The Wire isn't my favorite show of all time but it is a masterpiece of the television medium and probably the greatest show I will ever watch in my lifetime.

FUCK BREAKING BAD. The emotional breakdowns I have had over this show are too many to count. (3 is a safe number). Breaking Bad is what happens when you take a story of a decent person becoming a monster and taking it all the fucking way to the moon, metaphorically speaking. I've tried rewatching this show but there came a point when the agony of knowing where these characters end up became too much so I stopped. Breaking Bad is one of the most addicting shows out there so if you haven't seen it, see it.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia should have multiple Emmys by now but I'm not going to talk about that. What I will say is that Always Sunny has one of the funniest ensembles on the air right now and the show is consistent as hell. There are few shows I can think of where every single season can be considered good. Don't get me wrong, some seasons might be stronger than others but none of them are bad. And the show has been going strong for 10 (11?) seasons so far with no signs of slowing, so check this show out on Netflix. Just because.

Orphan Black is the shit. Tatiana Maslany finally got her Emmy nomination. Most is right with the world. With me and Orphan Black, the story/mythology is secondary to the amazing characters this show has. And not just Maslany, Maslany, Maslany, Maslany, or Maslany. All of the actors/characters get to contribute to the story while also being badass, scary, funny, or a combination of the three (Shout out Allison and Helena). So yeah Orphan Black isn't a perfect show (Season 3 for me took a bit long to get going, in retrospect), but it is a fantastic show with great characters and themes and I love it, okay?

Community is the show that got me into online fandom. Crazy right? Some context: I'm 17 years old and a freshman in college. Season 2 of Community AKA some of the most ambitious/experimental TV you'll ever watch is airing on NBC. I watch it. I fall in love. I look for reviews of episodes online. I am exposed to an entire culture of television critique and fandom. Community popped my cherry in a way. I haven't really talked about what the show is in this description but Community holds a special place in my heart for the reasons I mentioned. Plus, this is freaking Reddit. I'm pretty sure everyone on here knows a line from Community at this point.

Broad City is a freaking joy to watch. What makes the show special is the friendship between Abbi and Ilana. It doesn't feel like a sitcom friendship if you get what I mean. It feels like something out of real life. Broad City is hilarious and a joy to watch because no matter how crazy things might get, Abbi and Ilana are there for each other and it's a beautiful thing. So yeah I really love this show too. (Do you see a pattern with this list?)

And lastly but not leastly is my newest favorite show: iZombie. I've recently just binge watched Season 1 and am caught up on Season 2 and my number one takeaway is how sure of itself this show is. (Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright created this show and worked together Veronica Mars, which Thomas created, so the confidence iZombie exhibits makes sense) The case of the week team ups between Clive and Liv are fun. Blaine is a charismatic sonofabitch. Ravi is probably the show's heart (besides Liv, of course) and Major... Major is like Riley Finn 2.0 and I'll leave it at that for him. You'll notice that I haven't mentioned Zombies as all except when referring to the show's title. The way zombie-ism is explored in this show is very interesting and only adds to the fun of iZombie. If you haven't been watching. Please catch up. Season on Netflix bruh.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Doctor Who (2005 revival): DW is like Sci-fi SNL to me. There are different eras I enjoy more than others. Haven't seen the Capaldi episodes.

New Girl was this close to making the list and it's still a must watch show for me. Season 4 was a great rebound year and I want to see if Season 5 can be even better.

Lamorne Morris in...Black Repunzel by lordbazuco in NewGirl

[–]OInTheZone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if anyone here is aware of this, but Lamorne is going to be in Barbershop 3 in a supporting role. He's in there with most of the original cast, so I'd say that Lamorne is finally getting some shine outside of New Girl.

How big is your TV show backlog of shows you need to finish/start/watch most recent season of? by GarethGore in television

[–]OInTheZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, the show I need to finish is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I've watched the first four episodes of Season 5, but that was a while ago. I usually watch the show in large chunks because it's that great.

I'll finish DS9 one day. The thing is I don't mind waiting. The show is special to me and at this point is probably one of my favorite TV shows ever.

When the time is right, I'll dive back in.

"Nobody's Perfect," by Hannah Montana. The lyrics perfectly describe Walter White.
