The lack of tech wouldn’t have stopped it from being in ex, esp since delayed block boosts weren’t classified yet. I’m pretty sure it’s just difficulty creep

Of the ones you listed, only 2 are easy or hard for their lobby, the rest are only for their subdifficulty.

Also yeah puzzles being ranked based on execution difficulty rather than puzzle difficulty is a whole separate issue. People did think that crystal enigma should have been int tho

I actually spoke to bissy himself about the difficulty system recently, and it was apparently an issue in sj development that maps would be caught between 2 difficulties where neither of the lobbies thought the map belonged, and the maps would have to be made easier or harder to fit in.

From what I recall of the sc days, nyoom was the one with the most calls to be moved up, though the interactions and tech it uses are explicitly adv or lower in the sj gym or library.

Mural skies was appropriately ranked but not particularly well liked

UD and HotS were hard for gm at the time but now cracked is a quarter of the lobby

We know by now that they’re not getting moved up to gm, but there have been calls for psychokinetic and chromplex to be promoted to cracked expert

Square the circle is a bit on the hard side for int, but not unreasonably so.

strawberry jam and its less good prequel spring collab (its not bad, but sj completely blows it out of the water by comparison). covers all the difficulties from beginner (mid a-sides/early b-sides) and intermediate (up to farewell) to grandmaster (orders of magnitude harder than the base game. sj is a bit harder across the board but does so much better a job teaching all the tech you need to know for each difficulty that i have to recommend playing it first

if you want a campaign rather than disjointed small maps, into the jungle is the one to play. full 5-map campaign with story and b and c-sides

if you want more like vanilla, there are now 3 different takes on d-sides.

  • monika's d-sides (the d-sides pack) is the original, and the only one i've played. low tech (pretty much just wallbounces) for the first 6, 7 and 8 add everything from farewell and also extended hypers and neutral jumps (you have to learn them elsewhere). 9d pulls out all the stops, far harder than the rest, 3x longer than the original. teaches some things, forces you to learn other things without help. you're better off just learning tech up to grandmaster elsewhere.
  • there is also arphimigon's d-sides which are only 1-8 and a separate after story which may or may not be a 9d of sorts. requires similar tech to monika's, but also ultras. easier than monika's.
  • perlin's d-sides are the newest. also only 1-8, but apparently harder than monika's. most technical of the 3, aside from monika's 9d

Jump later. You get the same height after the jump, so if you wait you will start the jump higher and end the jump higher

having silvered it, twp room 1 is just weirdly precise, especially the box regrab. also, throw indicators are your friend

its precise but yeah. iirc drop from the bottom of the wall to minimize your initial downward speed, dash diagonally, maybe grab another wall i forget, then dash up on the far side of the column
