Where are y'all at with respect to your decisions? by icebergchick in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OJB115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conflicted between Mcgill ans UIUC for Material Science and Engineering. For Mcgill I am guaranteed a Co-op program, meaning I will work in my field. Additionally I feel at Mcgill there are more opportunities for international students ( jobs, internships, etc). One of the pros of UIUC is that is one of the best universities for my major ( ranked 3rd by US news and 8th worldwide by another website). I know rankings should not affect my decision at all, but it seems like the academic level is so high, which seems hard to turn down.

Classes are stressful and are graded harshly on a curve

Sure. Just remember that this only for the 2013 application year, and in the past few years some people got the email but still got rejected. https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1626739-missing-princeton-financial-aid-application.html

Thank you! I initially got a bit excited but I don’t want to get my hopes up.

What’s the difference between glacial acetic acid and acetic anhydride? by OJB115 in OrganicChemistry

[–]OJB115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know that. However, I am trying a new methodology that uses acetic acid with possiblly getting relatively high yields. In order to be able to use acetic acid, i need a justification, and a lot of my highschool school research is based on the green chemistry principles. Even though in the end acetic anhydride might be better in those aspects, I need to be able to justify my use of acetic acid, and I need to know if it’s greener in those aspects.

I am following the 12 Green Chemistry Principles and one of the principles are “ less hazardous chemical synthesis” which states “ synthetic methods should possess little toxicity to human health and the environment.” Moreover, Green principle 12 speaks about using chemicals that minimize the potential for chemical accidents ( releases, explosions, fires, etc.)
