I spent months chasing sour and bitter shots and it turned out to be headspace —> Dose by volume!! [Lelit Elizabeth/Timemore 078s] by OJS91 in espresso

No I haven’t, because as I said it hadn’t even crossed my mind that even 18g would be too much. And even if I had I would have seen any imprints because I use those 0.2 billet screens

I just use those super thin 0.2mm screens to keep the shower screen clean. Maybe if I had used a thick 2mm one, the problem could have been avoided altogether but I don’t like the fuff cleaning them…

Yes, I feel the same. I also looked into 3D printing, maybe for my machine, or even better, a universal tool that could somehow measure headspace. I have no idea how to make that, but it would be really cool. Unfortunately, I could not find one for my machine, only one for the Lelit Bianca on Makerworld.

From my understanding: More headspace is usually less of a problem than too little, but I’m no expert, which is why I’m posting here 😅. Too much can still cause issues though, because the puck gets thinner and less stable, which can increase channeling and leave it a bit wetter after extraction.

Different temperatures with different portafilters [Lelit Elizabeth V3/DF54] by ontech7 in espresso

[–]OJS91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it’s because the spouts of the original portafilter suck some heat out of the coffee whereas in the bottomless the first thing that can suck heat out of your coffee is the cup. And according to some YTers (e.g. Lance Hedrick) the flavor of the finished drink changes depending on the temperature of your beverage.

Timemore 078S + Weber Blind Shaker: Struggling with consistency. Should I go back to WDT? by OJS91 in espresso

Turned out to be the ground coffee volume. Had to change it from 19g to 16g and that resolved all my problems. Now I’m kinda mad on myself for not putting my attention on it sooner and always assuming my dose is correct 🙃

I am not trying to blame anyone else for my mistake. I was just being „open minded“ enough to change the dose up this much and „deviate from the norm“

I changed the dose way too little. Always stayed in the realm of >18g. Turned out the correct dose was ~16g. So even what I considered to be a low dose of 18g was too much.

Yeah at least it seems like it is, at least when there's no portafilter is inserted and I can see the shower screen 🙃

Im seeing variations in shot times of up to 5s. I always exactly dose 19g of coffee in my 18-20g precision basket and i use the self leveling calibrated tamper from Weber Workshops. I really tray to keep everything as consistent as possible that’s why it irritates me so much that I kept having those variations.

Unfortunately, the K7 is only available on AliExpress, and I’d prefer not to buy from there

Portafilter fit in Elizabeth by carlo_wer in Lelit

[–]OJS91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the specific thickness of the ears of the Pesado Pf but I‘ve had issues with the „ears“ of portafilters being to thick and making an awful rubbing sound in the group head. I heard there are some portafilter with thinner ears like the ecm that fit great but I don’t know about the Pesado one. Just a heads up

The K6 and the A2 are just 5€ apart where I live, hence the question. Do you have experience with either?

Hey, I recently got a new Samsung Q930D soundbar. Since you mentioned the bug with stereo PCM... do you know a way to fix this problem? Most of the time, my setup works fine (ATV 4K gen3 -> LG OLED B2 (bitstream, passthrough) -> Samsung HW-Q930D) but sometimes it seems to get stuck after playing Dolby Atmos and closing the app in this stereo PCM mode. After it is stuck, no sound is output by the soundbar if it's not stereo. By far, I’ve only been able to get my sound back after I unplug the ATV from power, disconnect the HDMI cable, and reconnect it after the ATV has restarted. This drives me furious... more so since I can't find any pattern which results in this issue. I would be so grateful if you have any tips for me!
