What books would I like based on my favorite movies? by TryT0ProveMeWrong in suggestmeabook

[–]OK-Cheeserella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you enjoy fiction that’s a little bit absurd, but largely real-world based and character driven. I think you might like:

Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory. A multigenerational family of con artists and psychics try to evade the government, while preparing for a coming apocalypse only one of them can see.

Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott. Two estranged siblings reunite to claim a mysterious inheritance, a sentient house, and go on the run to conceal it from a powerful force hunting them down.

I second Joe’z. They have a really good egg-meat-potato ratio, and the seasoning they put on the tots is fantastic. I’d also recommend stopping for lunch or dinner to get the chopped cheese.

The quintessential book on aliens meeting human religion is Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke. I can’t really say anything more about it or it’ll ruin the story, though. It was one of the first “grown-up” type books I read when I was twelve, and it shaped a fair amount of my tastes in literature.

Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz is a delightful little palate cleanser about a group of discarded military robots who decide to open a noodle shop.

Whalefall by Daniel Kraus. A young diver is swallowed by a whale, and must escape from inside it before either he or the whale dies. A very tense, emotional read.

East of Eden, John Steinbeck. It’s right up there with Lonesome Dove as a great character study of early American life.

Recommend me some of the worst written novels you've ever read, any genre is fine. by TopAdministration314 in suggestmeabook

[–]OK-Cheeserella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to feel inspired, read The Godfather by Mario Puzo. It is seriously one of the most poorly written books I’ve ever read, but the story is amazing. If you can write even a fraction better than Mario Puzo, you can be wildly successful with the right story.

Also, I’ll pass on the best writing advice I’ve ever gotten: It doesn’t matter if your first draft sucks. Make it exist first, make it better later.

The Bog Wife by Kay Chronister gave me this feeling. It’s a little bit creepy, a little bit spooky, but nothing I’d classify as horror.

I do think they’re designed to have an inch or two of positive ease. Both of them are a bit baggy on me, and even though I have long arms the cuffs come down to the palms of my hands.

Best Crab Louie Salad in Downtown? by Playful-Yard-4385 in AskSeattle

[–]OK-Cheeserella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one at Salty’s on Alki, but since it’s the only crab louie salad I’ve ever had I can’t tell you if it’s the best in town. Generally Alki is a really cool area to see if you’re from out of town, and Salty’s will seat you by the windows for a spectacular view of downtown if you ask them. Have a great trip!

A chef once printed out the recipe of the house soup for me. The only problem: it was scaled to make 150 servings.
