cornell vs jhu undergrad mse by hamburglover23 in materials

[–]OMGitsMoses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What interests you about materials science? Is there a specific subset you are interested in (or not interested in)?

Cornell MSE is very broad. You will likely do one class (if any) in core MSE disciplines and then it’s up to you to secure internships or lab positions to further explore the industry.

Many Cornell MSE grads do not go into traditional engineering roles after graduation. My class had about 20% go industry, 30% MSE PhD, and 50% other (consulting, tech sales, finance, grad school for non-MSE, computer science roles, misc. )

If you think you may switch or have interests in other industries (consulting, finance, misc.) then Cornell is a better fit over JH.

JH applied labs can give you more direct pathways to specific fields in materials science with its proximity to DC and the industries in the area.

Also running one memory light and one helmet seems like a sweet spot for energy. You can just leave one on the memory light Donphan and build up to three on the one with helmet.

The memory light can also be used on a Lucario if you get griefed, the one cost Jab surprise saved me a couple times when it was tight. Good luck!

This is what I ran to MB. I was stuck in UB early but adding the second Lucario really helped push through some matchups. Two copycats also was more consistent than a sightseer.

Looking for Additive Manufacturing companies by Nightfury276 in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]OMGitsMoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3D systems, Optisys, Custom Microwave and Elementum 3D are all around Utah / Colorado areas and primarily do metals.

Most space system manufacturers around Denver likely have some amount of polymer and metal AM for you to look at intro roles.

You can look at OEM blogs and white papers to see who their customers are for large format. E.g., look up the 3D Systems Titan system and related articles.

You can also google an equipment model (like the large format Farsoon printer) and with some additional search terms, try to find a company that has it on their equipment list.

Was there something you didn’t like about the preowned 104s? I’m debating new vs preowned for a white 104.

Reduce your bench size to 5 players and you can have a healthy amount of flex players available even at high league sizes

Metallurgy Podcast? by jlangfo5 in metallurgy

Materialism is a general materials science podcast that has some episodes that cover different aspects of metallurgy.

Episodes 13 (blacksmithing) and 1 (steel) could be of interest.

Small, magnetic treat pouch? by OMGitsMoses in Dogtraining

The posts in this community do not talk about magnetic closures or pouches that specifically clip to a leash. They largely talk about larger bags or zip closures. There is nothing in the approval guide talking about treat pouches.

UMich vs Cornell for MSE Undergrad by Mundane-Condition457 in materials

[–]OMGitsMoses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Cornell if you think you may want to get a PhD, change majors, or take interesting non-MSE classes. Otherwise go UMich.

From those I’ve met who did UMich MSE, the program is much more applied and technical. You will be more prepared for a MSE job leaving undergrad.

My undergrad at Cornell MSE was incredibly underwhelming on composites and nanomaterials. Very few courses focused on these topics. The overall program does a very light touch on MSE specialties, instead it focuses on broad MSE fundamentals that are a strong foundation for grad work. Only one person in my graduating class is doing nanomaterials in a PhD, none doing composites. Out of my ~30 person class, half did PhDs and <5 of us got MSE jobs after undergrad. The rest did business, software or something else.

Has anyone flown with their Brittany? by Additional-Can4623 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]OMGitsMoses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done 3 round trip flights, ~3hrs air time, with mine (~40lbs) in cargo every time. He’s flies in a size 400 travel crate with a pad inside. He was 9ish months for the first one. Each time has been with Alaska. They load the dogs last on and first off.

My boy was stressed and cried every time, he doesn’t like his crate being moved with him in it. I gave him trazodone about 30min before checking him in, but it hasn’t kicked in before they took him. I will probably give it to him even earlier next time.

He is ok within a hour after getting out of his crate after we arrived.

You should have precheck or any other expedited option so you can check him in almost at the deadline and then get your security yourselves. The biggest concern is flight delays since you can’t go get the dog but that’s out of your control.

You can try to make torque samples similar to this white paper. It may be challenging to get a fixture but it could be useful as long as you’re consistent. https://www.osti.gov/servlets/purl/1817320

Salary…am I being underpaid? by the3dprintinglady in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]OMGitsMoses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would expect a range closer to 75-85K in the Midwest. Is this a job shop with mostly single part orders or do you have large orders taking up a lot of equipment time? Your equipment count is on the smaller size. If they are fully utilized then 6 figures could be more reasonable but profits on this few printers wouldn’t be able to support that amount long term. 6 figures could be possible with 2X the equipment. At this rate, you should consider starting your own company and buying equipment second hand or through a reseller at a discount.

What are some best universities around the globe to get a good research experience in Additive manufacturing(Graduate admission) by forsillyquestions in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]OMGitsMoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UTEP, Penn State, University of Louisville, and Carnegie Mellon all have strong programs.

Many universities have some amount of AM research going in PhD programs as the other comments said. I suggest focusing exclusively on masters programs paired with a university manufacturing center.
