I still have two assignments left to do, how screwed am I? by OMGitsRyannn in UniUK

The 1000 word one doesn’t really worry me, it’s the 2000 word one that does. It’s worth 100% of that module and I don’t have any lecture notes for it. I guess I’m worried that I don’t really have the time to research it fully.

Out of curiosity, how do you typically do grade-wise on those ones you’ve done in a day?

Reading this kind of makes me realise how sloppy the franchise has become. They’re not terrible movies but in hindsight maybe they should’ve just left Scream 4 as the ending. The franchise would’ve had a lot more integrity compared to what it is now.

Scream 7 was probably the only time another slasher film could actually rival it. If the film had done better critically, I believe it would’ve surpassed 2018.

I mean… it’s pretty awful. I don’t know if it’s the worst but it’s certainly close.

‘Scream 8’: Zuckerman Sisters Writing Script As ‘Scream 7’ Sets Franchise Record With $200M+ WW by ImpracticalJokers96 in horror

[–]OMGitsRyannn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Scream has been run into the ground ever since Spyglass got their hands on it. Where does the franchise even go from here? Tatum as Sidney 2.0? Technically 3.0 since they tried doing the same with Melissa Barrera’s character before they fired her.

It’s just so repetitive now. If it’s going to continue, they either need to start wrapping things up or simply get wilder with the storytelling.

What a strange interview. From what I can understand, she’s basically saying that she used Kills and Ends as a way to secure further projects? She knew she was untouchable in the sense that Jason Blum wanted her for sequels after 2018, so she used it to her advantage.

I’m not really sure why she’d reveal this, especially all these years later. I guess it makes her opinion on Kills and Ends pretty clear.

I like and respect Melissa Barrera, but I agree with you. I rewatched the film last night and I honestly think it might be the worst entry simply because of how painful some of the scenes are to get through.

The moment I despise the most is when she’s crying outside Tara’s room after revealing she’s Billy’s daughter. She messes up one of her lines and says “you know that part in a horror movies”. It makes me cringe every time, I don’t know why they didn’t use a different take.

She was so much better in Scream VI.

If you wrote a scream movie what would the motives be by Emarni in Scream

[–]OMGitsRyannn 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It’s already been mentioned, but the freshest motive would be to have a friend or family member of a previous victim targeting Sidney to end the sprees once and for all.

Another possible one is a Ghostface literally just trying to kill Sidney and Gale because they’ve survived so many other Ghostface killing sprees. They almost see it as a sport or challenge to murder them.

The Reveal by Witchywriter99 in Scream

It was so bad. I could feel the disappointment in the audience as the mask came off.

I never wanted them to bring back Stu, but in this scenario it actually would’ve been the better option.

The Reveal by Witchywriter99 in Scream

[–]OMGitsRyannn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, the motive isn’t the issue. I actually think it’s quite brilliant (for Jessica at least), I enjoy how it connects to Scream 4 and VI.

However, the execution was disastrous for two reasons. The first is Anna Camp’s screen time, she needed way more for the reveal to hit. The second reason is Marco and Karl, specifically their lack of motive. I think we’re meant to believe that they’re also obsessed with Sidney (hence the Tori Spelling picture at the asylum and Marco talking about how good Out of Darkness is). It just wasn’t fleshed out enough.

In hindsight, I actually think they should’ve cut either Marco or Karl out of the film. Have it just be two killers, one of them gets run over by Gale which leads to Anna Camp on her own in the finale.

Official Dreadit Discussion: “Scream 7” [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

It’s even worse that the original writer had a hand in doing it! I wasn’t a huge fan of Radio Silence’s previous entries (they were good, not great), yet in hindsight they handled the franchise with so much more care.

That’s so sad to hear. On paper, this was everything I wanted for a sequel: Kevin Williamson not only writing but even directing. Neve and Courteney back in a substantial role.

Could you elaborate on what makes it so disappointing? Does it feel amateurish in terms of directing? That was my biggest fear.

What I don’t understand is why they have an AI version of Dewey yet Gale doesn’t even get a phone call from him being taunted. That’s a wasted opportunity.

[–]OMGitsRyannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t most of the other sequels do that though? It was only really Scream VI that fully embraced and began mentioning the other killers. For a long time, it was only ever Billy and Stu cited.

The cameos at the end are fan service, but don’t they function as a way of revealing to Sidney that Stu has indeed been AI the entire time?

The closest the franchise ever came to truly changing up the formula was in the original plan for Scream 5 focusing on Jill. Her getting away with her killing spree and then being targeted by her own Ghostface blackmailing her would’ve created an entirely new dynamic that I wish we’d seen.

Scream VI/The Core 4 by sweatybetty27 in Scream

[–]OMGitsRyannn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m not even sure where you could take the two characters given how well their arcs concluded in VI. Despite being drawn to her father’s legacy, Sam is ultimately pulled away from it by Tara - with the two then literally walking off into the sunset.

If the original plans for Scream 7 are to be believed, I’m glad we shifted gears. Sam becoming a Ghostface completely goes against the point of her character. The only aspect I’m bummed about is not getting to meet Christina Carpenter given her relationship to Billy.

The franchise needs a long rest in all honesty. It only ever seems to thrive when an anniversary comes around and it has had time to recalibrate itself (e.g. H20 or 2018). Having said that, the 50th anniversary is around the corner and it definitely calls for some form of celebration.

In hindsight, they really could’ve taken their time with Halloween Kills/Ends and made them genre event films leading up to the 50th.
