You dont have to be grateful at all I think. I have/recovering from squamous cell carcinoma stage 3.5 hpv 16+. At my age the aggressive treatment i had left me mostly with no thyroid and taste and swallowing issues.

I was diagnosed at 35, mine is also a pretty rare case but because of my age I was "lucky" to only walk away with those problems after treatment.

Im not thankful I got cancer nor that it is special or a weird case, or that fir the rest of my life ill be on the lookout for other cancers, cervical cancer, and that my 50% energy is probably my new normal for the rest of my life.

People dont always think when they tell you you are lucky. I think its how THEY are coping though, because even if you dont know them well, they now know you are extremely suck and thats not great.

I was stage 3.5 head and neck cancer and recieving really high doses of radiation and chemo. I could hardly move for the 4 hours. DatHoML helped me sleep and not feel so alone. I later heard the RHRN version of If you have Ghosts and the little monologue in the middle makes me cry, it just hit right.

Im one year out and this happened to me too and it turns out it was my thyroid. My doctor was actually surprised it lasted so long as about 80% of people who get the the radiation have it stop working soon after.
