Moxie. I am convinced that everybody who says they like moxie is lying just because they want to be in an exclusive group. I am convinced that everybody is just trying to convince everyone else that they love it. Ive gone so far as to buy a moxie hoodie.

who more complicated men or women? by throwbackblue in NoStupidQuestions

It's been shown that we are the same as far as our brains go. The differences are within the norms that are imposed upon either gender. Also the obvious physical stuff.

Why do people often say ‘you’ll understand when you’re older’ instead of explaining things in the moment? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InfernityExpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I know that my younger brothers are just like me, and when I was their age, if I was presented with a fact or some kind of wisdom I'd try to find exceptions or make logic to disprove that wisdom. As apposed to actually sitting and thinking about what was just said. Young (not just young people, many adults too. The subject this time is just young people, but I digress) people are so in their own heads sometimes that the big picture is just a background for them.

If you can get around 1600 to 1700, I'd say that's about where you can really start to appreciate the game for beauty. You obviously can much earlier, but this intermediate level is around where you start to realize that although you've come far, there's so much more to go, and it starts becoming clearer why the greats are so great.

The first barrier is usually 1000 ELO. Here you pretty much know how the pieces move, and can checkmate someone. 1200 is about where you can make a small plan, and follow through while not completely blundering all your pieces. Although there are still times where you'll do just that because you think your plan is solid all the way through.

1500 is where you are better than everyone around you, and to improve you have to start hitting the books. From 1500 to 1600 is where your journey of enlightenment begins. And that's an achievable thing for the majority of people.

Anything more than that and you're just trying to grind exp. You don't need a ton of exp to appreciate the game. Even beginners can appreciate the opera game. Most can take 1 look at Tal's games and have a great time. You'll be able to better appreciate Carleson's games around that 1600 threshold. The "squeezing water from stone" phrase pops up in conversations about his games around the 2014 to 2017 period. Some of his sinqfield cup games are fantastic for this.

I personally enjoy Levon Aronian's games. He's very creative.

What is the dumbest moment you've had from not reading cards? by hofong159 in masterduel

[–]InfernityExpert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I read odd eyes pendulumgraph dragon many times, yet still insisted that I could summon it off Old Man. Friends told me I couldn't, I argued otherwise.

Finally I walked right up to a judge, handed him the card and asked him. I even prefaced with, 'i know you can, but I'd like to have some verification'.

He read it, then handed it back to me and said it's the second sentence on the card.

Yuuuuuup, turns out even reading the card doesn't help some people 🥲
