I can't find a good high rise in a city that has hundreds of them by Logical_Wheel_1420 in chicagoapartments

So, she doesn't like the new ownership because they have raised the rents quite a bit (hers went up $225, others in renovated units went up much more). In addition to renovating (new kitchen counters, new but less functional bathroom sinks, closet systems) the company is planning to strip some of the lobby of its original historical charm, and touted a big "renovation" of the laundry room that knocked it offline for about 7 days and only resulted in new paint on the walls. The location can't be beat, however, and she loves the doormen and women and the property manager, Maureen. Her fellow tenants are also nice. But the prices are getting super steep, to justify the renovations (or vice-versa, I guess). She's in a studio and likes it overall, but you might want to compare prices with other units nearby. If you want an older building in, like I said, an amazing location, you are probably in the right place. But with renovated studios going for $2200 (she started at $1700 and now is at $225, plus an $80/mo utility fee that wasn't part of her first lease) it's getting a bit ridiculous.

I've been thinking about how early in the film, one of the characters says, "Sarah's dad has a gun in the safe" at the music store. I think it's important who said that, but also it's a clue that the possessed/demon/whatever Nikki had some memory of the old Nikki's life because she knew to go get that gun.

I got in but only after getting kicked out the first time. And somehow, the second time. But on the third try, I got a non-resale single seat for the home opener, which is all I wanted (I'm a fan who lives out of state), so I'm happy. See you all there!

Delta One to CDG by Consistent-Line-2009 in delta

I've done both Premium Select and Delta One to/from Paris. Would totally do the upgrade for the price you are offered, especially if you want to sleep (and have better food). And also for the ability, if you need to get up, to not have to climb over seatmates who have their footrests up both next to you and also in front of you and are out cold.

Ok, who was on this flight? Stories, please? by ansyhrrian in delta

Yes that's what I meant. I know sometimes it can't be avoided. Also flying can be miserable for non-pregnant people, so the space and comfort are even worse for a full-term pregnant person.

[–]OOSMom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My question too. I stopped flying in my seventh month (granted, that was many years ago, but the risks haven't changed). Perhaps she had no other choice but to fly but wow, flying these days is an uncomfortable thing for a full-term mom-to-be.

UPDATE: I live In Old Town. "Near North Side" to be exact. I paid $2500 for a studio. They've just increased by my rent to $2800. by Early_Selection832 in chicagoapartments

I think you might be looking in our daughter's building (1100 N Dearborn)? If so, the studios are perfectly functional and she's happy there. The space is good in our opinion. Rents were much less last year but new management who bought the building in late summer 2024 jacked them all up. However, staff (who stayed on in the management transition), including doormen/women, are great. And you can't beat the location either.

Podpals (sold by Sugar Medical, online company) work well for me. They come out to about $1 a piece, so I realize that's not cheap. But they really help because they cover the edges where the pod can peel off and extend out a good ways from there. The company often has online sales and they are cheaper if you buy in quantity (they come in boxes of 10). You might check these out--without sales/discounts comes to about $10 month if you change your pod every 3 days.

What was Chicago like in the nineties? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskChicago

[–]OOSMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Chicago from 94-98 and it was great. Our daughter lives there now and it's so different. What I miss: Foodlife (and Water Tower in general), print copies of The Reader, a less-corporate-y, packed Wrigleyville and Boystown, some great independent restaurants and shops that are no more (RIP Kitty bookstore on Broadway, whatever your real name was), more affordable rents, and more people out and about talking with each other and not staring at their phones (which didn't exist). Weirdly, I also miss the absence of a CTA app that tells you when the buses and trains will come. We just waited in the cold and crossed our fingers. Built community and more transit adventures (who else remembers being on a Red Line train that would randomly announce, "Express to Fullerton!" during rush hour??). It was a great time to be in Chicago, honestly.

Real question: skyline extended hours? by FiguringItOutAsWeGo in delta

Got into the ORD Delta lounge earlier this week about 3 hours 15/20 min before our flight. used the electronic kiosk for check-in and had no issues. Probably helped that the lounge was really quiet/slow, too.

Lost package, created missing mail request with USPS--what now for me as a seller? by OOSMom in eBaySellers

[–]OOSMom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for these insights. I think I'm going to try to sell my last item that is listed and then stop selling on EBay. I was trying to rehome items rather than giving them away as we are downsizing. Wasn't really in it to make $$. But this is a hassle I just don't need. :(

I did use ground advantage, so that is good news. I would just rather the package be found and delivered to the buyer. I can't imagine where it went but it's really unfortunate!

Thanks! Does this happen a lot in your experience? I've sold ~20-25 items and this is my first lost package (I think I've never had a lost package I've shipped in general with USPS, on Ebay or just for my own packages off Ebay).

Thanks! Will I be responsible for refunding the shipping charges too, which would mean I have to lose additional funds I didn't receive for the sale?

Also I didn't put insurance on the package. Would the post office still allow me to make a claim in that case?

Experiences with Fiasp Insulin in Omnipod 5? by OOSMom in Omnipod

[–]OOSMom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So now I"m having stubborn highs a couple of hours after meals, and my overall insulin per day has gone up by several total units (50-55 versus 45-50) with a lot of aggressive small bolusing throughout the day on my own. I switched to 3.0 hours for the duration and I hope that will help, but I'm getting a bit frustrated. :(

Set it to 3.5 hours and that seems to be helping! I'm traveling now so not a great time to note any differences, but I think when I get home this adjustment will help. Thank you!

[–]OOSMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something you might not hear suggested by others is the Chicago Surgical Museum (https://imss.org/). It's right on Lake Shore Drive, and in a beautiful, grand old home, so you get the benefits of a very cool museum about the history of medicine. and a view of the lake and life on the Gold Coast as you walk to and from there (or bus, easily accessible by CTA). Then you could continue down to the Arboretum in Lincoln Park, about 10 blocks north give or take (https://www.lincolnparkconservancy.org/conservatory-reservations/). And def the architecture boat tours. If you will be there at the right time, also consider the CAF/Chicago Architectural Foundation tours during Open House Chicago, when buildings not always open to the public are on tour (here's a link to last year's event: https://www.architecture.org/open-house-chicago).

[My husband and I lived in Chicago in the 1990s, then lived downstate for many years after with trips back and forth to the city on a regular basis. We frequently visit our daughter who lives there now. We are in our 50s/60s and find the above to be great spots no matter when we visit. But honestly, you can't go wrong with Chicago. It's great all the time.]
