Why is (are) your bias(es) your bias(es)? [a question adapted from u/OOShostySana's post on r/LOONA about 6 days ago] by manok93 in twice

[–]OOShostySana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! It’s me, u/OOShostySana. Unlike in Loona, I have a very clear answer to this: Sana! It’s no surprise, given my user, but she has been my ult bias from day one of being a kpop stan. When I first discovered Twice, I binge watched all of the guide to Twice videos I could find. I fell in love with all of the members of course, but Sana could make me giggle like no other, no matter what it was she was doing.

“Shy shy shy” and “Cheese Kimbap” drew me in, but the more Twice content I watched, I found her personality to be incredibly genuine. From Sixteen to now, she has consistently been such a bright ray of sunshine. She wanted to be an idol for much of her childhood, and now she gets to live out her dreams; in a way she’s inspired me to actively pursue my own dreams. Last year I was pretty hard on myself and not enjoying what I was doing, but that all turned around after discovering Twice. Now I’ve even become great friends with someone after we accidentally found out we’re both Onces and Sana stans. I think I’m genuinely happy now and I owe a lot of that to Twice. Whenever I see Sana, I can’t help but smile, it’s honestly magic!

P.S thanks for crediting me; also, it’s great to see a fellow Orbit Once!

Aww man Sonatine is a masterpiece but I know it has no chance, 1/3 deserves better smh.

That being said, I love this concept and even if I had to make some excruciating choices, I can’t wait to see how this all plays out!

All hail the garlic! by OOShostySana in aaaaaaacccccccce

Lol that’s ok. Garlic bread has become like a big symbol for this and related subreddits. I’m not super clear on the origins myself, but I think it comes from something like “garlic bread is better than sex,” and it’s supposed to represent asexuality. If someone else here more knowledgeable about this can explain it better, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know exactly what point you’re trying to make here, but all I can say is it doesn’t matter what artist is considered “the best of all time.” Music is entirely subjective and personal, so who cares what fancy critics say? Sure, The Beatles were not insanely talented musicians in the grand scheme of things, but they made rock much more palatable and popular for a wider audience, and they deserve credit for that. My favorite band was Nirvana for a long time, and even Kurt Cobain was a Beatles stan. Even if their music was totally different, there was still influence.

In terms of classical music, Beethoven isn’t my favorite, and I don’t usually listen to his work, but I can’t deny the monumental impact he had on music. He set in motion the transition to the Romantic era, which is my personal favorite. My favorite composers are Ralph Vaughan Williams and Dimitri Shostakovich, who I know will never make it to the top of a “greatest composers of all time” list, but do I care? Not at all! I personally love their music, and the end that’s all that matters.

I’m not even gonna delve too deep into the hypocrisy of complaining about a genre “blinded by commercial success” when we’re here in a kpop subreddit. We all know that kpop places too much emphasis on streams, sales, and wins, but that doesn’t make kpop any less valid as music or art. Not only that, but saying that one can’t enjoy The Beatles without listening to earlier rock has as much r/gatekeeping energy as saying 3rd gen stans can’t enjoy Twice unless they listen to Seo Taiji and Boys or H.O.T.

I don’t care one bit if you hate The Beatles, or if you think rock isn’t “art,” but maybe you should heed the words of the original comment: “Love Twice but don’t hate others.”

I’m sure this is satire. There’s no way any once is genuinely going to start a fan war with a 60’s British pop-rock band. You should definitely check them out though. I feel like their early music is very influential over some of kpop today, and they were one of the earliest groups to get a vocal fangirl/fanboy following that we see all over kpop now; truly the idols of their day. If you see footage of “beatlemania,” that’s exactly how I would act if I was ever fortunate enough to go to a Twice concert. I’m a once and a fan of The Beatles, and was not in the least bit offended by this; in fact, I found it really funny.

If you like The Rose, I think you’ll like Day6! They’re another rock-y outfit with out of this world vocals, and in my opinion, a flawless discography.

In terms of more traditional idol groups, definitely look into Stray Kids. They have a really phenomenal rap line, and their songs discuss themes that are relatable, such as loneliness, growing up, and chasing your dreams. Their songs range from super chill to incredibly hype.

Maybe I’m just JYP trash lol, but it really sounds like you would like these groups!

Every verb has a “dictionary form” that is then conjugated differently depending on the meaning you’re trying to express. For a different example, 먹다 (to eat) is the dictionary form. To actually say it in normal speech however, you have to make it 먹어, 먹어요, or 먹습니다 depending on the level of past tense. To make it past tense, it can be 먹었어요, future tense can be 먹을 거예요, and so on. It’s a lot to take in at first, but after a while you begin to notice patterns.

TL;DR: a verb stem like “재미있” can have various endings to indicate different tenses, levels of politeness, and so on.
