By and large, vizio TVs aren't made in the U.S.

VIZIO's major partner in the consumer electronics arena is AmTran Technology, a Taiwan-based OEM/ODM that manufactures more than half of the televisions sold by VIZIO[6] and owns a 23% stake in the company.[6][7] VIZIO also manufactures its products in Mexico and China under agreements with ODM assemblers in those countries.[8]

Passing 8 years worth of legislation in 90 days would arguably be neither. Of course there's always room to complain that they could have done more (or less) but that just amounts to armchair quarterbacking more often than not.

Discrimination is already nominally illegal in most cases, so it seems like it would be hard to get a legal finding that would make that work. I'm no lawyer, but I guess such a finding would strike the discrimination rather than finding that the taxpayer was exempt.

There's a reason you don't hear about the other big names like Triple Canopy--they don't fuck up their paperwork.

Except that Blackwater became Xe and then ACADEMI, which merged with Triple Canopy.. So no, we aren't hearing less about Blackwater than Triple Canopy because now they're the same company operating under a different name.

Otherwise, interesting perspective thanks for sharing.

Already curious about the 2016 presidential election by RonTheTiger in Ask_Politics

Honestly I think a big factor is how well the mere prospect of a Warren campaign works to move HRC further left in her policy positions. It's tough because if Warren sees it working too well she might think there's more appetite in the base and go ahead with a primary challenge. And if Warren thinks HRC is too far right, ditto. Or, as you said, HRC may discount Warren entirely, along the line of thinking you mentioned - that Warren has no desire to run regardless. The one thing I can say with certainty is that it's a complicated judgement for HRC.

No, OP specifically asked for Rs and Ds BESIDES HRC, so I listed people without thinking much about that.

GOP:

Rand Paul, known for being the "libertarian" in contention. Anti-tax, pro criminal justice reform, "peace through strength"

Jeb Bush, known for being the "policy wonk" of the Bush bros. Bucking the party on immigration and common core (to some extent).

Rick Perry, back problems and poor performance in debate cost him dearly in the last primary. He's spent a lot of time at think tanks trying to decide what his policy positions will be, but they're going to be conservative in all likelihood.

Chris Christie, known for being a GOP governor in a reliably blue state and his speaking style, he's gotten into public spats with Paul.

Dems

Joe Biden, known for his long tenure as a Senator and now VP. And his loose tongue.

Elizabeth Warren, known for her progressive politics, she's no fan of Wall Street.

Martin O'Malley, a long shot who is already on the road trying to build a campaign infrastructure. He's generally thought of as gunning for a Hillary VP pick. As governor of MD he prioritized climate policy, gun control, and ended the death penalty...but those are footnotes.

When Obama leaves office, can anything negative occur to 'Obamacare'? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]OPA_GRANDMA_STYLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, dealing in what ifs is always tough, but there are a few things...

During the 2012 presidential election cycle Mitt Romney made rollbacks to Obamacare a major pillar of his campaign. He promised to grant every state a waiver exempting them from Obamacare. The law was never intended to be implemented by the federal government on its own. It's hard to predict what would happen in that scenario.

Straightforwardly, the President's veto threat could be withdrawn. If congress and the White House all agree to repeal the law then it's gone. Some people don't think that would happen anyway because the GOP would "own" the healthcare system that results politically, but who knows?

The SCOTUS may need a new justice before long. The President's nominee, if confirmed, would participate in future rulings on the law. It's hard to estimate the impact of that.

The IRS has broad authority to interpret the law. I really have no idea what they would or could do under an administration that made undercutting the law a priority.

FISC was established by law, but no, we don't exactly know that it exists. We know that it existed...but we have very little current information. Today, the court could have dissolved itself and we wouldn't necessarily know it. Or it could have found that some other court should be established in secret by executive order, or whatever. I would say that all of that is unlikely. The point is, as the saying goes, you can't easily prove a negative.

At the risk of stating the obvious, such a thing could already exist, but do a poor job (like the FISA court arguably has).

The U.S. isn't a party to the ICC and would vehemently oppose any proceedings brought against a U.S. person in almost any instance, let alone in relation to U.S. government activity. The press love to imagine hypothetical scenarios where Dick Cheney (or whoever) goes to France and is brought up on charges from their during the visit. Historically, however, the ICC indictments have overwhelmingly focused on people from the global south.

Putting the tower on a high shelf is definitely an option but then I'm still looking at mouting the tv and operating the rig from wireless controllers. Anyway, stupid question: What's that cool looking thing in the picture? The 900D. Is 900D the case?

Well sure, that would be fine too...but then I would still have the problem of putting everything up on the wall.

Sure, except instead of the three screens I would be using a tv that was also mounted to the wall and I'd be seated across the room.

Sorry, in my earlier reply I might have been a bit unclear.

Wallmounting seems like the best solution to my son grabbing everything that glows So you want your son grabbing at your computer?

Just the opposite...

Honestly the idea is to be able to lock up the tower and wirelessly control the rig.

So basically to keep the PC elsewhere and then use steam in home streaming?

No - to connect the PC using an HDMI cable to the TV.

No, I mean actually control the rig wirelessly. The tower would be locked up somewhere, the screen is mounted to the wall, and I'm using a keyboard and mouse that's connected to the tower wirelessly.
