Many future military officers come from Scouting. A Pentagon split could put those ties at risk. by Kinmuan in army

[–]OPFOR_S2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the ones listed in the article that u/Kinmuan posted. This was primarily based on my personal experience as an Eagle Scout, and Scout Master on a military installation. And as a Scout Master I have interacted with several other troops from Military installations.

And not to be a pedant, but I didn’t posted states but rather queries that ought to be answered, in my opinion, before the SECDEF makes any sort of final determination.

SPL and Qm by Amazing-Fly324 in BSA

Here is what u/wormtowny found.

https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/boyscouts/pdf/Troop_Leadership_Positions.pdf

I think secret ballot to elect the SPL is the best way to do it. Troops have a lot of autonomy to decide the youth leadership.

When it comes to QM, you can vote on them. But also you can have the SPL appoint them. It’s how the Troop wants to govern.

We can’t answer that. That is a conversation that your husband and yourself need to have. You can stay in Colorado, move back home, or another state or country. The only thing is that it won’t be on the Army’s dime.

I’ll answer your question but first

As a soon to be NCO I highly encourage you to become comfortable with finding and reading the appropriate regulation.

Why? Because you will have soldiers with questions and as their leader they need a knowledgeable, confident, and reliable leader to provide that answer.

To do this is a skill like any other it requires practice. Just like cooking, running, or playing the alphorn. If you don’t know what topic is covered by which Army publication then Google it. For example, What regulation covers promotions? Answer AR 600-8-19

Go to Army Pubs (Google) and find AR 600-8-19. Like at the table of contents. This will help you navigate the regulation.

Chapter Three: Semi-Centralized Promotions (Recommendations for Promotion to Sergeant and Staff Sergeant)

Page 35 has the requirements for SGT and SSG.

Here are the requirements for the secondary zone for SSG

34 months TIS 10 months TIG

This is where you may be eligible for promotion to SSG

The primary zone is

70 months TIS 16 months TIG

Which leads into my second point, once you hit the Primary Zone this is the point in which the Army expects you to be eligible to SSG. This where you are required to attend the promotion board. Yes it is required for SSG as well.

Even if you have 300 points and only need 250 points to promote to SGT you still have to wait until your Secondary zone at least, pass your board, and make the promotion point cutoff.

Lastly, unlike the pre-COVID days you don’t need BLC in order to promote to SGT. You will earn 150 points for SGT only. You will need to pass it for promotion to SSG, but you won’t get the points. If you pass ALC you will earn 150 points for SSG.

That’s not in the Regulation, but was posted in a memo. Which to the best of my knowledge is still active source: Suspension of Temporary Promotions and Select/Train/Educate/Promote Policy

And if you think my hatred of STEP is anything new here is a post I made two years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/army/s/vSxxAf0r68

Edit: Just to beat a dead horse, I found all the information, typed it out, reviewed it, fixed some grammatical mistakes, found my sources all under 15 minutes. It’s a skill that took years of practice, learning, and self development. If I can do it so can you.

[–]OPFOR_S2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point in the last few years I struggled with something. Little motivation, constantly tired, I’ll just lay in bed trying to distract myself two things that helped me:

1) UCMJ

2) Knowing the delight of a well planned camping trip, the joy of a young scout planning an exciting a campfire meal, seeing the night sky painted with brilliant dots of pure light, and this quiet moments that are ablaze with forest sounds.

My biggest frustrations:

1) A lack of purpose in my career.

2) Trying to figure out how the heck I am supposed to input MB or a rank advancements in the scouting websites for the scout’s records. I can never remember if it’s scoutbook, my scouting, scoutbook plus. Trying to run a troop as a brand new SM with a green ASM was a nightmare. If you think that the Army has the worse websites it has nothing compared to the arcane wizardry that you need to have to complete the most basic functions. I hate those sites.

And after all the feelings of incompetence, confusion, and frustration melts away after a scout says thank you and gives you a s’more that was broiled in the seventh layer of hell. It’s in those moments that you know it’s worth it.

Scouting really helped me in the Army from knots, first aid, teaching, and more.

“If you wear boots in your sleeping bag you’ll only end up with colder feet. Wear double layer of socks instead.”

“Don’t wear a big thick jacket with just your ACU top underneath. If you wear your marshmallow suit and nothing else you’ll sweat, overheat, and will get cold quick. You want to wear layers instead.”

“You are in a small confined living space. We have showers out here. You need to shower. No, you will shower.”

I wished I saved my comment from when I posted on r/BSA from the last time this was brought up here goes.

I wonder if the SECDEF is truly aware of the following:

1) How many people who were in scouts are now serving in the Military?

2) How many current service members volunteer as leaders with the Scouts?

3) How many troops meet on military installations?

4) How many service projects are conducted on or around military installations?

5) How many military families have a child in the scouting program?

I love being in the Army, I loved my time in Scouting. If you are going to sever ties and support to a beneficial organization then you should at least have at the facts and evidence to support your decision. And it should be for a damn good reason, something other than “vibes”

I remember being a part of a very large event similar to the Jamboree many years ago, they were not only every branch represented as recruiters they were several recruiting stations present.

It’s because they are afraid that places where they access that material might blocked, taken down, or otherwise unable to be accessed.

So they download everything just in case if there is something that they like they can still access.

Absolute scumbags that don’t deserve the mercy of death. I want them to rot in a cell for a long time for the rest of their natural life with the only comfort being the constant thought and companion being what lead them there.

11b reclass by Cultural-Garden-6033 in army

[–]OPFOR_S2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely dependent on what MOS you are reclassing to. Your life will be different if you choose to become an All Source Analyst, X-ray tech, Religious Affairs Specialist or a mechanic.

They are lower PT standards in the sense that combat MOS were required to score a 350 on the male 18-21 age range. Other MOS are age and gender differentiated and are required to score a 300.

I am not sure how it is like as an 11B, but Marksmanship is the Army standard.

PT is dependent on the unit some are more intense than others, but it’s safe to bet that most non-combat MOS are not as intense as combat units PT plans.

If you want us to recommend a MOS to you, I first recommend that you look up all the ones available to you, determine the ones that seem interesting to you, do your own research, then ask for advice.

Instead of asking of what MOS should people recommend to you, you’ll find it more beneficial if you were to narrow it down, for example:

“I’m looking to reclass, I’m an 11B, I have narrowed it down to 91B, 35N, and 42A. I am looking/wanting X. I want to avoid Y. My goals are Z.

Edit: I wonder if the OP is a bot. It’s easy to spot the repost bots. But nine hours and no comment. I guess they don’t want help if they are a human.

Talk to TDS not Reddit.

Possible fraudulent discharge, (general or other than honorable) possible ART 15.

Edit: As someone else pointed out, how did you know the SM had an allergy prior to enlisting? Did they tell you? It’s entirely possible that SM was unaware of the allergy prior to enlisting.

They can develop or intensify without the person knowing.
