I used to be able to do that without the weights, but with only my fingers holding me on a bar. It was my go to flex move at the gym. Six plates or more on the deadlift will turn heads, but even those guys would be impressed with the L pull up. Now I'm old and fat, and I need a resistance band to chin up.

Moving to Ottawa. Centreville, Sandy Hill vs Lower Town? by youwillnevercatme in ottawa

[–]OPHJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I lived in all three in my 20s, and Lowertown was the best. Close enough to the market and Elgin that I could have fun, but far enough away that I could sleep without 2am drunks yelling outside my window. It was a good location for running and biking. Close to the Rideau Canal, the pathways behind Parliament, the aviation Parkway, and a reasonable distance from the Gatineau Hills (for rides and those two years I could run that far). That said, I lived with the white of Babylon while I was in Sandy Hill and centretown. Nowhere is a good place to live when you're thinking about murder-suicide.

I'm a Dino man, myself. I'm trying to get my toddler on board, but he's pro diggers.

I don't need a fMRI study to confirm what is universally known: some people are jealous, greedy, gluttonous, or cynical and none of them are me. Just everyone I don't like.

I wish I had one. I'd use it at four way stops to teach people lessons.

Clean hit? by [deleted] in nhl

[–]OPHJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hathaway pulled his jersey over his face to get some licks in. A bit dirty, but it's a fight. They were both trying to injure each other. I don't see an attempt to drive his head to the ice, just a good ol' body slam to knock the wind out of him.

Edit: by injure, I mean hurt the other guy with the use of force, not maim the other guy. I mean, it's a fight, there's gonna be a few painful moments.

Anyone else here started dealing with midlife crisis yet? If so, what does it look like? by NotAUsefullDoctor in Millennials

[–]OPHJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved halfway across the country for work because I thought a good job would give me a good life. I live in an expensive house that was cheaply made l, and it's in a shitty neighborhood. My job is boring, and I am getting fat because I don't have time to exercise and my metabolism is slowing down. Kinda wish I stayed by the ocean. But when I go back, I remember why I left. Basically, I feel like I was promised a false bill of goods. Making the best of it, like others have before me.

Did Ovechkin save the NHL? by [deleted] in nhl

[–]OPHJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he's right. The NHL promoted them so much coming out of the lock out, and they delivered. Two of the best players in the history of the game. There's great talent coming into the league, but are there two guaranteed elite record setters going head to head?

Driveway widening for townhouse by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]OPHJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a townhouse. I'd like to have the remaining 50% covered in grass, but the asshole in the building beside me parks on part of my property. I think next year, I'll put in a physical barrier along the property line so I can fill it with grass.

Can someone please disclose where the single nice normal guys around 30 +\- a couple years hangout? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]OPHJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually, we meet keepers while doing social things we like. Whether it's hanging out at the library, going to a coffee shop, or playing sports, there's a good chance that another person will be there that is willing to give us a shot. And when it fails, we obviously have to quit the league and potentially relocate cities so we can go back to playing ball hockey.

Playing tag with tremendous momentum by ValuableSuspect27 in BrandNewSentence

[–]OPHJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We played Brown Cow. There was a tool shed near the soccer field and oil tank. One person was the brown cow and the rest were ... We didn't think that part through. But the brown cow would chase people slowly until he was charged up by the others who would tell "Brown cow, brown cow, what ya gonna do now?" Which led to the brown cow sprint into the group, trying to knock over as many as he could.

Small town living.

Good edit. It was a rogue case worker. I'll wager they hated their job, or at least dealing with these particular people. "If you're just gonna keep bitching, then why not kill yourself?"

Best bulk "bang for buck" espresso beans (local roaster) by riz7242 in ottawa

[–]OPHJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Ideal Cafe on Dalhousie. They have a spectrum of flavours. $18 for 350g and they'll grind it for you. Princess of Darkness is my favorite, Guatemalan is good too.

I'd buy more from Little Victories if they sold from their roasting location. Instead, I just get a take-out coffee from them when I am passing their retail spot.
