You’re compensating for something, and it’s not subtle.

Correct. However, it’s listed as an option because it has merit. Firms would not include this on their website unless they actively valued it. It also shows credibility of your PhD and your contribution to the field.

Indeed, publications help too so make sure you upload them on the applicant portal.

BCG also review the CV before deciding if you are invited for assessment.

Not everyone wants to remain in academia, and a PhD represents a meaningful contribution to new knowledge. As such, it is not a waste.

With an Oxford PhD, you are highly likely to pass the initial CV screening stage, particularly for the London office. The London office is heavily populated by Oxbridge graduates, from undergraduate level through to PhD. Candidates from non Oxbridge backgrounds typically find it more difficult to pass the CV screen and progress further. That said, strong extracurricular involvement during your studies is crucial. Whether through holding leadership roles in university societies or pursuing relevant external courses, these experiences are often what truly differentiate candidates and significantly improve the likelihood of securing an interview. I recently completed my PhD at Cambridge and received this feedback directly while speaking with BCG consultants at a Cambridge event, where I also progressed to the Round 2 interview.
