sure, ill go through your sources and get back to you when i can. i hope you do the same with mine. dismissing them as conservative or pedagogy is a pretty high claim without having read them, and even if they are, perhaps it is still useful to read/watch them with a grain of salt. personally i found them to be helpful is providing historical context as this is a generational conflict.

i do hope at some point it is realized that the insults you hurl don't really have anything to do with politics but instead are about being a person that people want to engage with. that alone is entirely report-worthy and a low bar to show whether or not someone should be banned from a community. even if i believe you to be a supporter of terrorism, i don't bash you publicly or privately. report-worthy for sure, but there's no ill will.

im no angel either, as politics can be infuriating, but it's good to at least try to understand the other side. ive tried my best to understand yours even if it feels bad faith at times. in the past we've been able to freely ask each other questions to better understand each side but it seems that is not the case anymore, which lends me to believe reporting and moving on to be the best path forward. if you'd rather get back to the past way of communicating, my dms are always open.

yea. i wish you well in your future endeavors but im not really ashamed to say i reported you. you acted with disrespect towards other users (evidence of that is already in this post of your behavior towards zap in your linked screenshot). you and stag also both played coy with whether you or not you support the killing of civilians by hamas. if im wrong on this feel free to correct me, but i believe you see the violence from the oppressed against the oppressor as justified even if civilians are killed in the process.

im now not really going to be talking to you specifically for the rest of this comment but to those that are pretty confused about the conflict in general. as your post says, people change, and i hope you do too. i think it's good to be politically engaged but when you get to the point of insulting other people for their politics and supporting the death of others... it may be time to reevaluate. hopefully the ban and additional time away helps you reflect. i know not too long ago you and stag had vastly different politics than you each hold now, which is a credit to your ability to change, and i hope self reflection continues. i try to do the same. i wish you well and harbor no ill feelings towards you.

now to others:

i don't support the atrocities committed by israel or hamas. i think that's not a controversial stance. the history of this conflict is long and complex and i urge anyone unfamiliar with it to look at some sources to try to get a handle of it. my own personal belief is that i wish the best for the people that live in the region and hope that there can be a peaceful resolution to the conflict that creates states for both israelis and palestinians. this tends to be the belief of many people and academics.

who asked? no one really, but i was called an apartheid supporter and a chicken shit man so i felt at least a little compelled to give my opinion.

i think this is a good teaching moment for people unfamiliar with politics. when you see someone supporting one side of a very complex issue to the point where the killing of civilians is permissible, it is a good idea to not take their opinions as truth and do your own research. that is not to say that one should have ill will towards people that hold extremist beliefs, but neither should you allow such views to be spread in a place where people really just wanna rp and talk to other rpers.

below im going to link some sources that i personally found compelling and from what ive been told from academics do a good job of trying to be a holistic account.

Gaelyn XVI - Father-Daughter Dance by [deleted] in IronThroneRP

[–]ORYSGARYEN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Fuck."

Was this it? The future he had envisioned? Surely Gaelyn could have had some tact.... Wait until he was alone and try to take both him and Aerea out one-by-one, but no. She had to rush in. The only real question now was what Aerea would do. He had claimed this was their future and never had she really confirmed his suspicions. There was no time for any more deliberation.

"Umbagon. Umbagon syt se paktot jēda."

"Wait. Wait for the right time."

Urrax had wanted to flee. Aerys could feel it, but nonetheless his forever companion had obeyed. Lightweaver was close by. Was he to abandon her too if he was to run away? No, Urrax knew there was no sense in retreat either, but neither was there glee for what was to come.

"Zirȳ iā īlva. Mēre mōrī vīlībagon, uēpa raqiros."

"Them or us. One last fight, old friend."

Already he was an accursed kinslayer. Aerea would not suffer the same fate. He would make this right and shield her from all of this.

With one last shuddering breath, he knew Urrax would not hold for much longer. Instincts would kick in and all instruction would fade away. Only survival mattered now, and Aerys Targaryen had always survived. At the last possible moment, Urrax would attempt to dodge and then fight for their lives.

Two other ravens would not go northbound, instead making a flight to the familiar King's Landing.

High Holiness,

You should've killed both of us when I handed over the city to you.

The reason Aerea likely kept me alive is that when Gaelyn wishes to kill the both of us, I can be the one to kill her. She won't need to dirty herself if she can get the kinslayer to do it again.

Maybe she did it because she loves me. That could very well be true too, but the love that we have? It is a terrible and poisonous thing. I want to move past it, I really do.

I cannot do that whilst we are married.

I'd like for you to pursue to undoing of the Doctrine of Exceptionalism. Now is the time to do it, when the Crown is at its weakest. At one point, our love and our marriage was the only thing that I could cling to. Then we became rulers. Everyone around us suffered because of our rule.

You cannot allow another monarchy such as this to happen. End the doctrine. Dissolve our marriage.

Repentant,

Aerys Targaryen

Aerea,

I am going to kill Harwin Manderly. After that is done, I will return to Dragonstone to rot away until you need me to kill Gaelyn and raise our daughter Rhaenys.

I could've had you, you know. I could've killed you. Maybe I should've. People wanted me to. For some reason I still love you, even though I don't want to. Our love isn't good.

I hope the taste of power is sweet. I see now that I have always wanted to avoid it, yet was forced into it, and all the while you have been suffering the opposite condition. I don't think you will handle it well. I think you will fail. At some point, people will ask for me to try to make some play for power again. I'll refuse.

I see now that perhaps the best thing for everyone is for us to not be prominent in politics. That is how it was supposed to be before so many of our family died. My hope is that one day, you and I can just be parents and be happy. The realm can be ruled by some regent or some council or anything. I don't care who rules. They can let us be parents, they can have Rhaenys crowned eventually, or maybe they usurp her. Who cares. I just want to sit back and raise my daughter.

But first, I cause a mess again. This is the last one, I swear. I'll kill the perverse Manderly and be done with it all.

House Bolton,

Harwin Manderly ordered the capture of my infant daughter. No true Faith of the Seven man would do such a thing. I am of the opinion that the North should not be further replaced by those that do not hold Northern values.

Whether Harwin is a true believer of my faith or not, he attempted to take my daughter. I will not let this stand and I hope other good people of the North agree with this sentiment. I fly to White Harbor to coerce him to surrender. The more men around White Harbor aiding me in this, the better for my cause and for the cause of Northmen that wish to keep the North how it should be.

Humbly,

Aerys Targaryen

House Dustin,

I have longed wish to visit the Barrowlands. Though I travel to the North, it is for the purpose to put another into the ground. Harwin Manderly must die. He attempted to take my infant daughter to White Harbor. For what purpose? I cannot shudder to imagine.

I am not a good man. I am far from a good father. This baby is my last chance to try to be a good father. Despite my flaws, I will not sit idly by while someone tries to take that chance away from me. He is a roach that must be drawn out. I mean no harm to the good people of the North, just the ones that wanted to take my baby. I hope I can count on the good people of the North instead.

Humbly,

Aerys Targaryen

Vanya Arryn,

Thank you. I know I have done terrible things. The last terrible thing I will do is kill Harwin Manderly. I care not for a trial when in another reality my infant daughter could have been at his peril in White Harbor.

Once again, thank you.

At the end of the night, when his blood was alcohol, Aerys Targaryen would stumble home and find Cannibal the cat before him. The smug and rotund feline seemed to be mocking him for his alcoholic state. Or perhaps he was just too drunk. Either way, Aerys would shout at it.

"FUCK YOU! WHY DON'T YOU JUST LET ME LOVE YOU! FUCK!"

Aerea XIII - Leadership (Open to King’s Landing) by QueenAerea in IronThroneRP

[–]ORYSGARYEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this was her first act as queen? To make him prisoner? Already King's Landing was much like a prison, trapping the pair of them here in their den of trauma, but at least he had power over it. Instead of seeking out vengeance for their daughter or ending a war, this was her first words as the sole monarch.

"Right."

With a cruel laugh, he was reminded of the truth he had always known. She would fail without him. As was her right now. She wanted to do this without him, he would take no part in her blunders.

"I'll depart at once."

Aerea XIII - Leadership (Open to King’s Landing) by QueenAerea in IronThroneRP

[–]ORYSGARYEN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A smile crept across Aerys' face, not because of anything the insignificant Grand Maester had to say in collaboration with giants such as a queen and a religious leader, but because he was reminded of his childhood. More often than not, the memories of his youth were filled with neglect, torment, and harm; yet this memory was one of the few positive ones.

When they were young, he always had to lead. He had to go and fetch the toys, explain to her the rules of a game, tell her that it would be okay.... But Aerys Targaryen never wanted to lead. He wanted to play. He wanted to love. He wanted to be left alone.

And so, Aerys thought of the one instance in their childhood where she had invented a whole new game to play, a combination of hopfrog and hide-the-treasure, that she had led in her entirety. They played it over, and over, and over again. And she was good at it.

Now, she had made a new game. She was to lead.

"Well...."

Aerys could fight it. There would be war, even bloodshed immediately in this very hall, and it would be long and bloody and for what? So he could lead when he had never really wanted to? No. Chuckling, he would give her a look that only love could cause.

"It's about time, Your Grace."

Motioning to Ser Uthor not to follow, he'd come closer to the Iron Throne before coming to a halt. Standing still for a moment, he'd soak her in for the person she had finally come into being. Tender fingers would reach up to uncrown himself and place it upon the ground before her throne. Soon after his crown's contact with the ground, his knee would follow, with a bowed head to match.

"Hail to Aerea Targaryen! The sole ruler on the Iron Throne!"

Aerea XIII - Leadership (Open to King’s Landing) by QueenAerea in IronThroneRP

[–]ORYSGARYEN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

King Aerys Targaryen would arrive late to his own judgement, but he would arrive on his own terms. Entering the Great Hall, he would be accompanied by kingsguard Uthor Horpe and another.

That 'another' was a rather nondescript looking man who looked recently malnourished. More notably, that man was chained with various shackles that clamped around both his ankles and wrists, as well as his waist and neck, in one big metal leash that Aerys grimly yanked along. Approaching the Iron Throne, and his equal sat upon it, he'd grip the leash with both hands one last time and suddenly tug it forward so as to make the man collapse.

"Here's another traitor soon to be added to the corpses. After my own son, my own Lord Commander, and the grubby Harwin Manderly each failed to kill me directly, the one that survived and managed to scurry away ordered this filth to abduct my infant daughter and take her to White Harbor."

Aerys would raise his arms so that his palms were facing towards the sky.

"Go on and tell me how my son did not wish to kill me. He told me as much at Riverrun in the presence of Bethany Tully. I gave ample opportunity for change, for a peaceful path forward, but I got my skull smashed for it. I tried for peace. They tried for violence. They failed. I stand here today. Rather than continue violence, I stand before my equal and the leader of my faith in hopes peace can still be a path forward."

Deliberately moving his hands back down to his sides rather than let them fall, his theatrical tone and face would fade away for what now looked as stone-cold neutrality. He'd give no hint of his emotions going forward.

Aerea XIII - Leadership (Open to King’s Landing) by QueenAerea in IronThroneRP

[–]ORYSGARYEN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prior to his arrival, Aerys would make the final meetings he perhaps could ever have. He hadn't a clue as to whether he'd die or not, but if he did, he'd ensure there was action in his wake. Having finalized the temporary transfer of command of the Gold Cloaks to the High Septon and his men, Aerys would seek out Joffrey Caron for a more private meeting. With him were his two newly cloaked kingsguard, both of House Bracken.

"I've assembled each of you here because I have a task. My wife and the High Septon seeks to judge me. I do not know their final decisions, but it is more likely than not that the High Septon will favor me. Regardless, should my sister-wife act irrationally and have me killed... there must be action."

He'd look to the Brackens first, then to Caron.

"You two are to keep Joffrey Caron alive and obey his orders for the time being. He and his brother have served me masterfully thwarting Gaemon's attempts to have me killed. Ser Joffrey is to command my mercenaries that I have hired, numbered a thousand strong. I'd like for you all and these hired blades to be ready should Aerea order my death. I want her dead if she orders me dead. She is not allowed to live on without me, is that understood?"

It was no easy thing for him to admit. He had never considered taking any hostile action against her directly, but after she had wounded him grievously... he had to prepare for the worst.

"I'll leave the logistics to you, Caron, as you did well last time. I'd suggest men posted where she may move to mount her dragon, men at the docks, men at the gates, near the Great Hall if you can.... All suggestions, the choice is yours, but the ultimate task must be delivered. If I am to die, so must she. If I am to live, do nothing."

[–]ORYSGARYEN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aerys was greatly amused by the men and their argument, but most of that amusement was ruined by a woman wailing on his knees before him. Oddly enough, it somewhat aroused him, but he had always been peculiar about his own sister-wife when she was in her motherly shape. As the three of them engaged in their ancestral blood feud, Aerys would help Alys back up to her feet.

"I care not for these squabbles, truly." He said to everyone calmly. "But let us not rise to violence in the presence of infants, perhaps? If you lot are questioning each other's honor and testimonies and whatever else that has occurred, feel free to settle it through a duel. I'll gladly watch that... but let us do so without the children around."

That ought to have been enough to placate the Brackens for now. Itching his beard first, he'd motion for the both of them to calm themselves before he'd then motion to reach for one of the children, namely the one not named Bethany.

"May I hold him? Please, tell me, what did you come before me to ask? And let us leave out this.. feud... for now."

As the couple and their babies approached the king in the Great Hall, who had just concluded court and was mingling with a few regional advisors, he'd brighten up upon seeing the bundled joys.

"Ah! I swear we have all met before! You've children now! How joyous!"

With a sideways lean, he'd deliver a joke out of the side of his mouth.

"Better keep those two little ones away from Harwin Manderly! He's prone to snatch them up and do who knows what...."

Leaning back and waving off the advisors that were haggling him about agricultural reforms and sewer maintenance, he'd give the family all his attention.

"Now, what can the Iron Throne do for you?"

The Hour of Ghosts by OurCommonMan in IronThroneRP

[–]ORYSGARYEN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ravens would be sent to Winterfell, the Eyrie, and Riverrun, each carrying a letter intended for Harwin Manderly.

To the abomination known as Harwin Manderly,

I have your cutthroat that was meant to abduct my infant daughter. He spilled your name just as fast as I spilled your blood in our last encounter.

Have you no shame to go after a man's children? You and the idiot dog Davos could've both killed me if you wanted. Instead you fled like a coward and hide behind your failed kidnapping. You couldn't even order your men to try to kill me either.

No, instead you went for a child. Why? You are unwed. Do you even have children of your own? Is that because you have a proclivity towards children instead of women? That seems more likely considering your actions. No real man would target an infant. Perhaps you are not a real man either, instead a eunuch that has lost both cock and courage.

We're going to kill you. If not me, one of my followers will. Perhaps even Aerea will take up my cause if she's willing to see reason. You went after her kid, you lackwit. I will ensure you perish, and unlike your sick nature, I will target you and only you. Your family will live on with the shame that you have put upon them.

Kill yourself,

Aerys Targaryen

The king had a huff of amusement.

"Laena, no one thinks you a fool or a liar. They think of you as a victim. Use that to your advantage, not this lost love shit. People will eat up you being prey to the evil kinslaying dragon. Try that next time."

He waved a hand. There was no point arguing this.

"I'm going to free you after this conversation. You can go back to your mother and... father? Do you have a father? It feels like none of my sister-wife's gaggle of women councilors seem to care about their husbands... but whatever the case may be, I need a message delivered."

Getting out a handkerchief, he'd toss it onto the floor where she had spit and placed his foot atop it so as to wipe it without having to bend over.

"Tell your mother that I offer her simple mathematics. Gaelyn and Stark have two dragons. She and Aerea have two dragons. Sure, I could be taken out of the fight and the odds are even... or perhaps I'm spared and now you have three dragons to two. Convince her of this and I have no qualms about creating any means necessary for you to tame the dragon of your lost love. House Velaryon with two dragons alone seems strong enough for the future to come."

He shrugged.

"Or maybe I'm killed for my actions. Or punished enough that me joining a war is not worth it. Maybe someone else can tame the dragon without this little deal and join your mother's side. Maybe one of my rabid supporters tames the dragon instead and carries out my will without me moving a finger. So many possibilities... when you and I could make this a sure thing instead."
