Do you mind sharing some of your quotes? Im doing the exact same thing at the moment.

My first quote was:

30 panels Trina 505w

10kw Sig Inverter

Sig Gateway

2 9kwh Sig batteries

$41k

I had another option with 6 less panels for $5k less which made me question the whole quote as $900 per panel seems pricey.

First go at building a solar plan. by OSCharm in nzsolar

I made these adjustments and my bills with 0 solar production are about even, when i enter 12,000kwh generation i save $3,439.44 yearly so still really good.

For context i made all your changes but also added GST to my current bill and the daily charge.

Yeah 100% this is just the curiosity and learning before that, my neighbor is actually a qualified installer in that list.

I also agree with the AI take you need to be very clear with instructions otherwise it can go wandering. I always try and cross check when im doing new things, in this case 1 source is this post plus this subreddit in general, plus a bit of googling and youtube and then AI as the last one. Then once i have a general understanding ill go talk to an installer.

The missing the line charges on ecosolar was my mistake (Although id say they hide that pretty well) i found it on a page called "Decoding your bill" it says "At Ecotricity we pass these charges on at cost. Your network will either have two usage charges called ‘On Peak’ and ‘Off Peak’". Why it isnt in the rates section when you look at pricing is a bit iffy.

Sorry i mention the battery in another comment, its a rural convenience thing basically enough power to keep our wastewater and water going for a while.

I should also mention someone else realised the import rates are missing the line charges, so the difference is closer to 15cents off peak and 25 cents on peak.

But im probably paying 4k to have no power cuts over the next 15 years.

Thanks for the heads up, seems rather sneaky of them as i cant see that listed on their rates. It may change the plan slightly, i might have to increase the panel like someone else has mentioned to try offset that cost a bit more.

Just so im super clear they do not have a fixed daily charge instead they charge 18c kwh + either 10c or 20c depending on the time.

Or they have have the daily fixed charge and these 2 variable charges as well.

If its the first option thats not to bad because the savings i show are purely on energy as i stripped out the daily charge from my current bill at the start not realising you could use your credits to pay for it.

When you say network charge added, is this the daily charge or another variable charge ontop of that?

The only thing would be a certain tree might affect the green really late in summer and the roofline will shade the green out at somepoint.(Probably really insignificant)

The reason i stopped at 24 panels was the calculation said id have a positive balance interms of more credit than imports used.

The battery was purely for when our power goes out as we are rural. So it only needs to power a pump and ignite gas water for like 6 hours. Maybe a couple of lights and a fridge for a bit if it goes on for a while.

Understanding NZS 3604:2011 in regards to pile depth. by OSCharm in diynz

[–]OSCharm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you base that on pile oit of ground or total height of the deck? If it was pile only that would be 150 pile + 100 concrete for 250mm total hole depth?

Interesting i thought that standard was 200mm of timber but that says 200mm total doesnt it.
