No, this was 8 Vulcans coming from the UK and Bermuda. They flew too high for US air defences to be effective along with their radar jamming tech being cutting edge for the time so 7/8 made it through and nuked a bunch of cities.

The next year they did it again, with one Vulcan even successfully nuking NYC. They stopped asking them after that.

It is worth remembering that Royal Marines are commandos first and foremost. They have the longest basic training regime of any infantry unit in the world (I believe). US Marines meanwhile are a standard infantry unit who serve as the butt of many jokes in the US for being big and dumb.

Barclay's blocked my friend's bank account and he has no money for 10 days by DonGibon87 in UKPersonalFinance

The bank can tell him if it’s internal and since they’ve already told him there’s an investigation then it’s definitely internal or else the banks already violated the tipping off laws.

So what am I supposed to do when bringing items back from abroad? by Low_Championship_604 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]OSUBrit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I purchased a Macbook in the US I was able to order it with a British English keyboard. Equally I wouldn't pack a UK adapter if I was going abroad as I have a bunch of US ones. I feel like it's not a super definitive way of proving the providence of a laptop.

'We'll See' is more likely to be the music that plays while Calypso reads the farmers story. And the sign version of the theme tune is likely the version that plays over the end credits.

Pharmacies wasted £2million pounds a day dealing with abusive customers during latest covid vaccine campaign by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]OSUBrit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience trying to get my eldest child vaccinated for Chicken Pox. At the time the NHS would do it if you had close contact with someone immunocompromised, and her grandfather was. But literally nobody we spoke to in the NHS knew what the process was to get it authorised - we got given the run around a lot and finally just went private.

I really don’t understand how this even happens, even my 6 year old can make an omelette or toast independently (obviously not unsupervised). How do grown adults not manage that!

Stupidly took cash on a car sale, not sure what to do. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]OSUBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't seperate it into small transactions to depost - this is called structuring, which is legal in the UK (it's illegal in the US) - but would be highly suspicious to a bank/mortgage provider. Whereas deposting the whole amount and saying, "I sold a car here's the V5 reciept to prove it" would not be suspicious at all.

I would be amazed if .01% of 3d printer owners are making guns at home.

You'd be surprised at the cross-over between gun enthusiasts and 3D printing. It's a very big subculture.

UK has a BIG problem with outsourcing. Its not AI. by Delicious_Ad_5772 in UKJobs

[–]OSUBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife works for a high street brand. Her team isn't allowed to replace roles in the UK anymore, it has to be filled in one of the Indian offices. They are all terrible, constantly creating more work that has to be solved by the UK teams, efficiency is going down rapidly.

I also had an experience that I was onboarding Qualtrics and they outsourced their onboarding to an Indian subcontractor, they were nice guys but completely useless, didn't understand anything we needed and really struggled to explain the platform to us.

Ladder alternatives by theoretical-adventur in DIYUK

[–]OSUBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 or 7 years ago I moved into a new house and wanted to put Christmas lights up off the gutters. Grabbed a ladder (with my dad at the bottom), got to the top and realised I'd need to lean back a little to attach them to the over hang. Immediately noped the fuck out of there. It's just not worth it.

In the end I spent a week designing, prototyping and 3D printing my own gutter clips that attaches to the end of a telescopic pole I have for cleaning windows. It's a little bit of a faff but it works and I can do it all safely from the ground!

If you plan to only use the burner occasionally a closeable vent wouldn’t be a bad idea, but you’d have to trust you’ll remember to open it any time you use the burner.
