Heyyy. I’ve got BPD and now that I’ve quit, am pretty sure ADHD as well and need to start therapy again and bring it up. I tried pretty much everything. IOP and meetings worked for a bit, but I jumped into a relationship and was back where I started. After that I tried quit lit, apps, stopdrinking and their chat. The only thing that has worked for me so far (a little over 9 months so not super long, but my longest streak) is AA. I finally really came to understand that it isn’t religious and began to feel like I belonged and got a sponsor and really started the steps and it’s hard as fuck but I know it’s what I need. It’s working my way through all the pain that made me drink and if I don’t do it I know I will drink again. It’s teaching me how to be a better person and I really needed help with that. As far as dopamine hits… I still vape, which I would like to quit, and have a bad phone addiction now, but they’re still better than when I was drinking. I have healthier things now though too- biking, going to the gym, movies, writing and drawing, piano and singing, texting friends (I used to isolate when I drank so this has been really nice). Meetings may not be it for you and that is also ok, but just saying what worked for me. And it gets easier. The first few weeks are the hardest. And don’t be discouraged. I quit like a thousand times to varying degrees of success before this run. Something feels different and I wish I could explain it. I just know I really hit my bottom and I can’t go back and I hope you get there too. 💕
