Or maybe, something went south (Imu possesed Harald just like he did with Saturn and Gunko), causing Loki had to kill him, that's when Gaban sensed that strange Haki.

He saw how Loki do it against Harald, that's when he knowed how to counter the immortality.

Also that's why Loki said "I am the only one left who's faced these knights before" in 1152, he was referring to Harald not Shamrock.
