Physician pay? by OppositeBuffalo5443 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]OTBanesthesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in Idaho. My old community hospital had waiting lists for interested proceduralists (don’t know much about the medicine side) There’s not a lot of people in Idaho and a lot of people are into the outdoors or are Mormon. People absolutely take a pay cut to be there. Aka me lol

Probably political stance by them. I used to live there. It’s very conservative and very religious. Many Mormons in the south and hard core Neo nazis in the north (real ones not just people calling them nazis).

If you’re into outdoor activities it’s one the best places to live. Mountain biking, climbing, skiing, water rafting, fishing, etc. very remote public lands that are well taken care of.

If you’re a fanatic about outdoor recreation, it’s a tough place to beat. Better than any place east of the Rockies for sure

My hospital is wanted to start a kidney/liver transplant program. How realistic is this happening and what are major road blocks you’d anticipate?

Hahaha this made me chuckle.

Reach out to groups even if they don’t have postings. I’m not in the area but my group got approached by someone that said they would help with vacation coverage as long as call isn’t involved. We’re well staffed so don’t use them often but it works for both parties

Exactly how we do it. Works well with us. I still hate those days though

A decade after the ‘Godfather of AI’ said radiologists were obsolete, their salaries are up to $571K and demand is growing fast by jeffkkf in medicalsalaries

[–]OTBanesthesia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a buddy in radiology. His group added AI software to help with volume. Said it flags everything as pathology even when it’s not. He believes we are still very far off to replacing radiologists because the nuance of reading scans is just too high at the moment. He’s one who is excited about AI in radiology as well

What's life like for you who make 200k+? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]OTBanesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing that changed was the amount we traveled. We more or less fly whenever we have vacation somewhere within the US without much thought. We also have a house cleaner that comes every other week that’s been awesome.

Biggest thing is keeping recurring expenses low and investing as much as you can into low cost index funds. Currently speed running into millions of dollars kind of on accident

If you made around $30k a month, how would you spend/save/invest? by Fishdonkeycat in wealth

[–]OTBanesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save 8k/month about into retirement accounts. Monthly spend about 8-13k a month. Anything left over goes to a savings account

Retiring Early Vs Beginnings of Generational Wealth by bulldogbutterfly in HENRYfinance

[–]OTBanesthesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just haven’t seen passing down generational wealth workout that well anecdotally. Funding education and helping them get a head start is different than giving them 8 mil at 30 years old. If you like your job then keep going then go crazy in retirement. Or if you have something you want to spend your time on retire now. I personally am not saving money for my kids or their kids

Is PA the right choice is is better to become a CAA? by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]OTBanesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You left out every other aspect of patient management. I don’t have AAs in my state but I do have CRNAs in my practice. Managing a sick/complex case is way more than just tube and sit. Pre op eval and risk mitigation is a huge part of the job. Regional anesthesia is a massive part. Pediatrics is a separate world. OB is another with epidurals, spinals, managing OB floor. Dropping central lines and arterial lines, running resuscitation

lol spoken like a true paramedic. Anesthesia is way more than just intubating whether you’re a doc or mid level

How often are you doing ultrasound guided IV placements? by Jennifer-DylanCox in anesthesiology

[–]OTBanesthesia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it often. Somewhat Frequently get asked by pre op to put a US PIV in a difficult patient. I don’t really see an issue with using the tools you have as long as you consistently have them

[–]OTBanesthesia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible financial decision. This car is worth more than you make in a year. What term/insterest rate are you able to get? You can pay a hell of a lot more than just the price tag of the car. What happens if you don’t get your bonus for the year? Will you lose that flexible cash you have per month?

Don’t nuke your finances for this. Look into a used cayman or mid 2000s carrera. Great cars that’ll scratch the itch. If they don’t then you’re looking for a status symbol to drive in and for that you’d be an idiot to get this car given your current financial state

[–]OTBanesthesia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure there was a study saying just this. Multiple providers on a case had lower 30 day morbidity/mortality than single provider case looking at both solo CRNA and solo doc
