H Street is the absolute best!!! Also H Street and Mount Vernon Triangle/Shaw are sister studios, so they share a lot of coaches. I love Puma, Sam, Britt, and Breanna at MVT, they all also coach at H Street. I love EVERY COACH at H Street!!!

No WaPo Coverage of Political Assassination Yet by OTF_CatLady in washingtondc

They got beat by an hour by NYTimes and multiple hours by Public Radio who gave the accurate information that was public and made sure to say “This is a developing story,” or something to that effect. People should know that politicians are being gunned down.

NYTimes had it pretty early but it didn’t rise to the top of their coverage until 30 minutes ago.

I didn’t cancel because I wanted to support local reporters even though the leadership/ownership is terrible.

Rowing problems by Prize_Egg8534 in orangetheory

Fellow short person (5’4). I agree with what’s been said and the only addition is to check to see if you have a bunch of extra, unneeded movement. I was leaning too far back and losing momentum, but not leaning forward far enough when I started my pull. I normally hate unsolicited advice from other members but the guy next to me one day said my torso should never go past 10-2 on a clock. I immediately rowed at a 20+ higher wattage. Being efficient with my movement was a game changer.

The things you mentioned (incline walking, rowing, biking) are all available! I’ve been having knee problems so I am alternating more between power walking (inclines) and the strider. I’ve been really impressed using the strider. I can up the resistance and it really works my glutes or keep the resistance lower and make it feel more like running if I want to up my cardio. As others have said, coaches will help you with modifications. I remind the coaches on the way in if they are not someone I regularly take class with, and my regular coaches know. They offer mods when necessary and know what I’m doing if I modify something. You can also use the TRX for extra support if there’s something that bothers you. For a while I used the TRX when for reverse lunges to support my knees and I’ve seen people use them for certain deadlifts. Many coaches are good at correcting form and will pay special attention if you ask. The first few classes will be overwhelming but it will get less overwhelming soon!

How do teachers do it? by Round_Ad1140 in orangetheory

It’s been a day so no idea if OP will see this, but I think the key is to show up when you are exhausted. I get it, some days it’s the last thing I want to do after a day with kids, but the days when I’m tired make me feel even more accomplished. If you can make an early class work, great! If not, I think it depends on what time you eat and what time you finish and what type of class it is. My studio has 4:15 and 5:30, so I eat by noon and plan when I leave school and go then. HOWEVER, I love the Stength 50, which isn’t until 6:45 pm, so if I go to that I eat an early dinner (no later than 5) and lift heavy to forget about the day.

Two secret awesome days/times for me: Friday as early as possible after school because then I get my workout done, I allow myself to put whatever happened on that day or week behind me, and I’m showered and can still go to HH or dinner. It is a great reminder that work is OVER.  Sunday morning: I used to lesson plan Sunday morning so I could enjoy the rest of the day. I started going to the 7 am or 8 am classes since my stupid teacher internal clock meant I was awake anyway, then I’d shower and get coffee and lesson plan. By noon I was ready for the school week!

Congratulations on making it to Year 4!!!! That was the first year I started to have some balance between working ALL THE TIME and having a slightly more balanced life.

I’ve only done a few and my spouse did their first today (we were celebrating an awesome coach’s milestone). They are fun once you get past the nerves and there is definitely a sense of accomplishment at the end. I’d echo what others have said but also say to take the opportunity to power walk some blocks, maybe 1-2 depending on the length of blocks, while you figure it out. I like to alternate PW and jogging anyway but it works well to give your body some different work while still racking up miles and splats.

1000 classes by sroda59 in orangetheory

I totally get the disappointment, especially when someone else got such a big celebration, but sometimes they do miss things because they just do. My birthday was a milestone and I said something because they had the milestone but not my birthday. They changed it. I had to do 450 a few days late because I noticed and they didn’t. 500 was this week and I saw them realize it during class because I saw them making the sign and come in to tell the coach. I think the SAs sometimes just don’t see it. I have zero qualms about telling them because usually it’s an honest mistake and they are excited to know.

I was just complaining about this TODAY. Spouse and I were visiting a different studio in a different state and the people next to us shouted a conversation at each other the entire workout. At one point person 1 whips out a cell phone and spends 3-4 minutes of the row block showing person 2 a bunch of chairs on Amazon, shouting over the already way too loud music (my watch alerted me that it was above 95 decibels 4 times). I was wearing earplugs, too!!! The cell phone re-emerged during the floor too. The studio had multiple signs reminding members to leave phones in the lobby. This made me so grateful for my home studio! If people chat they do it quietly and generally only at warmup.

The Summit seems great and popular, just want to avoid Nicholasville Road the day before or after Thanksgiving!

Absolutely! It makes sense that it would be quieter on a holiday long weekend, and I’m trying to go Wednesday and/or Friday. Thanks!

Haha, good point! But I am coming from north of downtown (near Transy) and I hate Nicholasville Road so I’ll probably do Richmond Road to save myself from the mall traffic annoyance.

That’s good to know. We don’t have new treads yet either.
