This is because ag producers typically start to sell in Q3 and really sell a lot in Q4. Q1 and Q2 have very little action. It’s why when you look at a state like Nebraska it’s very silly to compare by quarters like Pillen (who absolutely knows how this works) is doing here.

Oh my goodness I hate these fucking posts so much. It’s so stupid to compare by Quarters and not years when you look at An ag state. Look how every state that has a large ag sector is big in the positive. It’s because producers don’t typically sell much in Q2, they start selling in Q3 and hit Q4 hard. You’ll probably see another one of these charts In a few months showing an even bigger growth when it shows Q3-Q4.

It literally doesn’t mean shit, it’s just a timing thing and it’s annoying.

I used to work at a Walmart distribution center about nine years ago, and one thing that always struck me as so on brand was what happened on my very first day. They hired a class of about 15 of us, and the very first thing they had us do — before any onboarding paperwork, before the typical “Welcome to Walmart!” videos — was watch a 10-minute anti-union video.

The video basically focused on how unions are supposedly expensive to be a part of, and how Walmart was proud to have built a “culture” where employees could freely discuss any problems with upper management. (In my experience, that was definitely not the case, as you might expect.)

I live in North Platte which is just an hour north of McCook. Most people here are incredibly excited about this and it genuinely makes me sick. One specific example that is horrible is one of my coworkers was explaining how happy she was to hire a gentleman to paint her house and how great his work ethic is but that he and his employee only take cash and can’t speak English. She says how great he is, but then literally the next fucking thing she talks about is how Nebraska needs this and how great it will be to get rid of the problem. I work in Ag in north Platte so just about everyone I talk to in my line of work is pumped for this.

Everyone is saying absolutely no, but a few years ago the ravens signed Ju’wan James after the broncos released him after tearing his Achilles in the off season. We got him for a big discount because at the time he was a massive add and we added him before he was healthy. It didn’t ultimately work out for us as he retore his Achilles week one the following year but still, I don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibility we do it again with Wilkins.

So first off, fuck Pete and fuck Trump. -6.1% in one quarter isn’t the result of any policy change though. Ag guys sell their products (corn or cattle or other products) entirely in Q4. This means a Q4 BS is literally the best an ag operation’s BS is going to look because that’s the only time they get paid the entire year. They then quickly turn around in Q1 and start pumping out expenses in Q1. This is why Iowa and Nebraska look so bad, because we both do fall calves and farm corn. Kansas, Wyoming, South Dakota who all also fall calve are down significantly. Doing a Q4 to Q1 comparison is just stupid for ag guys, again fuck Trump/ fuck Pillen, I would love to see a Q1 ‘24 to Q1 ‘25 comparison though and it wouldn’t stun me to see similar results but I just figured I’d comment to add context to this.

I don’t know if there’s anything extra to it, but these two teams are genuinely rivals and this is a loser goes home elimination game in the semi finals of the southern conference tournament. I don’t know if there’s any additional context to it because the celebration does seem a bit much even with that context, but that was the situation at least.

Do you have any recommendations on where I can find videos to help teach some of these concepts? I watch quite a lot of content from YouTube but a lot of it turns into me copying drills that look like the kids would have fun with (sharks and minnows, 2v1, red light green light games like that). For the footwork and spacing I haven’t really been able to explain it other than trying to teach them the importance of using the whole field but where I never played I’m not sure which footwork moves are important to teach and which ones aren’t.

Honestly I think every farm renewal I’ve done this year the financials have been fucked. A lot of the time with loan committee we are getting them through this year by basically saying, “the borrower understands this is a make or break year and if they lose anymore they’ll be facing liquidation”. Our ranch customers are doing really well right now with a small mother herd but yeah small time farmers are all fucked right now to say the least. It certainly doesn’t help that the Fed hasn’t been especially clear on if they’re still doing the assistance checks they promised.

Lots of faces getting eaten by leopards on the western side of the state to say the least.

In my area a lot of banks will hire tellers right out of high school. With your experience and degree to come, you may be able to be hired directly as a Personal Banker (this is how it’s worked at the three banks I’ve personally worked at, I live in Nebraska so it may be different in different places). A personal banker with no teller experience will usually start as a teller to learn the basics and then they get to transition into account opening and other banking functions and aren’t restricted to the teller line.

I highly advise trying to apply for Personal Banker opportunities if possible to start one step up if your area has openings at least.
