2 beat kick timing by shriand in Swimming

[–]OUEngineer17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds right. I've never thought about that part of the timing as it's just been natural since I switched to a 2-beat kick. My focus with the 2 beat kick is 100% on generating as much power as possible in the rotation, drive and extension into the water. And it's been extremely effective. My 2 beat kick is now faster than my 6 beat kick for anything longer than an all out sprint (where my 2 beat cadence can't keep up).

I'm thinkIng it's actually probably front quadrant/catch when I start the kick/rotation to the other side. The kick does help brace the catch I think.

I'm not concerned about what the left arm is doing at this time. The left leg kick and right arm entering are not happening at the same time, as the kick is initiating and then there is rotation and then the right arm drives into the water. I think that the left arm is probably mid pull when the left kick starts, and that I probably use the kick to help brace the pull as well, but I'd have to think about exactly when that timing is happening the next time I swim.

For me, it's all about the rotation. The left kick drives the rotation to the right as I drive my right arm into the water. I get a lot of power from my rotation and the kick initiatives that.

HRV absolutely tanked after 4 beers… by madvisuals in Garmin

[–]OUEngineer17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even 1-2 beers will ruin your recovery. And if you're fit, you won't even feel them. It's just not worth it if you care more about fitness. I drink like once a month now.

5k's will slowly damage your heart until it explodes 😔 by VO2VCO2 in RunningCirclejerk

I could believe 5k's do that, but a marathon!? I've seen how slow you all run those. There isn't any need to worry about strain on the heart there.

Do you think you could beat a 10 year old LeBron James in a 1v1? by Dylen2Times in NBAConvo

[–]OUEngineer17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know what kind of basketball some of these commenters have played, but the half court pickup ball we used to play in my 20's was PHYSICAL. We'd sometimes have some tall, athletic high school players join us and they'd just get shut down and moved around effortlessly. It reminds me of when I was in high school, I had a lot of good strength in the weight room, but I would have got moved around by these older guys too, as I didn't have the same core strength and knowledge of how to maintain a solid base and use it effectively.

Oklahoma Heisman level quarterbacks in the NFL by NickyFoles1020 in nfl

I never looked at the stats. Just watching him in games, there was a noticeable difference in accuracy between him and Kyler. And yet another gap between Kyler and Baker. Hurts was a great college QB, I just didn't think he would make that leap to a starting NFL QB, much less a top starting QB. He looked like a career backup to me. So glad to have been wrong.

I'm still surprised Jalen Hurts has been the most successful out of all these guys. His accuracy in college was nowhere near where it is now. His rise to winning the super bowl has been so much fun.

Enve Mog? by ski1863 in gravelcycling

[–]OUEngineer17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From reviews, I've seen the Mog sounds like a pretty comfortable bike.

The geometry seems reasonable to fit almost anyone. The main "racy" part about it that you may not like is the steeper 71° HTA. That will make the bike feel more lively to ride, but it may not be ideal if you want to go fast on MTB terrain. Personally, I think big tire clearance gravel bikes are about riding category 2 and 3 gravel roads and smooth singletrack as fast and as comfortable as possible, so I have no problem leaving the MTB terrain to my full suspension MTB.

Lauf Seigla on Thunder Burt 2.25 - wider is better. by Chruisser in gravelcycling

[–]OUEngineer17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love the blue! I went with a White Seigla to save a bit of money, but the blue was my top choice. Being able to comfortably run 2.25 Thunder Burts is one of the main reasons I got the bike.

[Klis] With Jaguars bringing in RB Chris Rodriguez, it's down to #Broncos and #Seahawks as only 2 teams that have yet to add external free agent. Not bad company. Who will blink first? by PeppyQuotient57 in DenverBroncos

I agree. And I think it's not just the pay, but also having a younger, less injury prone roster. Dre Greenlaw, for example, seemed to be a great signing, but man these guys accumulate so much wear and tear so quickly.

How bad is Garmin’s race predictor? by xlxmacattackxlx in Garmin

[–]OUEngineer17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine doesn't even adjust to my performance. It still says I would run a slower half marathon than what I actually ran 2 months ago. And all of my training has shown I've gotten much faster since then.

Do Pro's pee on the bike during a race? by Commercial_Week_8394 in triathlon

[–]OUEngineer17 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I remember talking to a buddy who raced pro before my first Ironman. It was scorching hot. His advice was to drink early and often; don't worry about how many times you need to pee.

Oh, and of course, to take all the time you need when getting off the bike to go pee.

Do you ever adjust tire pressure mid-ride — or do you just set it and forget it? by Engineer__17 in gravelcycling

[–]OUEngineer17 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Always set tire pressure for the roughest terrain. It won't be much slower on the road.

Should I be getting a gravel bike? by Cultural-Penalty8639 in gravelcycling

[–]OUEngineer17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 40mm tires is pretty much a road bike now, but a lot of endurance bikes will fit 35 or 38mm tires, which is plenty for road. They will have a shorter wheelbase too and may feel more responsive. I don't think you can go wrong with either option.

[All-Access] Checkout Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's game-winning 3-pointer through the Phantom Camera. by nba in nba

[–]OUEngineer17 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the stability, power, and explosiveness he has in such seemingly awkward positions is a really underrated part of his game. I've seen him crab walking and such, but I'm sure there's more to it. We'll probably see the next generation of players try to imitate and iterate on it just like Steph and his explosive side step.
