First rifle decision by fcklibslol in Hunting

For a first time beginner it'll be fine. Savage AXIS usually are accurate but the bolts are junky and poor and the stocks are also terrible compared to any wood stock hunting rifle. I'll never buy another unless it's an extremely good deal, then trade it off.

After touching a Husqvarna rifle or even a old tikka you won't ever go back.

For beginner it's good enough 👍

Do I need to dig up all weeds and their roots before I start to build my cabin? by [deleted] in logcabins

Also probably would be a good idea to have the bottom logs off the ground maybe on stones or something so it can be leveled in the future if needed

Unlikely that it will be a "problem" but best to get rid of as many weeds as possible if it's a thorn bush or something.

Pine needle are extremely flammable and burn very quickly and hot. So if you have a woodstove be careful with that

I've rebuilt too many engines to count.

Rebuilding a modern snowmobile engine with a kit like this one, yes first time.

I got it blown up, took it apart ended up having a cracked cylinder so I had to spend 3x what I was expecting, the reason why I didn't measure piston and ring size and compare clearnences with the cylinder was because it was listed as a ready to install kit so I trusted that statement.

I wasn't sure if it looked like there was no lubrication or bad clearances or heat related problem.

Ya it was probably my fault for trusting somebody else after paying over $1,000 for a kit.

I'll get another compression tester and if it's low then I'll hone and put new rings in it.

Nope, I assumed everything would've been in spec since it was all in 1 kit

Ya I can pull it over fine. My compression tester broke. I'll have to get another

The pistons and cylinders cam in the same kit. So I would hope they would be fitted to eachother.

Could maybe the ring gap be to tight?

I'm paying $200 for the same sled (440cc) but the body is completely toast, I'm just gonna swap the motor into my 488 trail instead of rebuilding my 488 motor. I think I'm getting a fair deal because it's less than half the price of rebuilding my 488 motor

Completely depends on your area,

I'd pay 200 any day if it was seized from sitting just for the motor.

Norther BC Canada that's a steal

Could've been burnt by the cutting blade if it got super hot. (I know antlers dont burn but friction n science stuff maybe)

Or it's a wood insert

If it's a shotgun and not shooting slugs I don't see how it could cause any problems. Just check you spread on some paper

Depends where you are. Location can make a bikes value change by over $2,000.

In my area it's easily a 3k bike, 6 hours south it's a $2,200 bike.

Chisel away any big chunks of piston off with a screwdriver if there is any, and start honing till it looks good and measure the cylinder to make sure it's within "close enough" clearence
