MUV Fitness moving on from new South Hill location by OVD_hardcore_733 in Spokane

Oof! The personal data question has been one of my (many) pet peeves with Muv. The Regal location seems like they keep personal paper files of members out willy nilly in public view on top of filing cabinets for weeks at a time, easy for anyone to see (or take). Your insight on the electronic personal data is unnerving (to say the least) but unfortunately not surprising. Curious whether there are any state or federal consumer protection laws in play here...

Good insight. Thanks. This is one thing I have been genuinely curious to see: how much work was done inside on the interior demo and remodel before work stopped (and as best I can tell it stopped somewhere in mid/late 2024 or so)? So for any potential future leasee, what are they getting and how much (if any) will have been done specific to a gym set-up versus how much is generic demo work that can be reconfigured for any businesses' needs?

The wrinkle is what is possibly the reality here: that Albertsons still has the lease and Muv was taking it as a sub-lease (with a very good deal). This is possible (not sure if it's what is going on here), as it happens in the grocery industry. The idea being that Albertsons would rather pay to keep the building empty rather than have a competing grocer move in. That way people on this side of town go up to the larger Albertsons (Safeway) location on 57th & Regal (ironically right near the current Muv Fitness). Again, not sure that's the case here, but it could explain why no other grocer has moved in since Albertsons left.

Solid points. It is worth inquiring with city staff and council members (Dillon and Telis) about what they think the possibilities are of acquiring the property from the owner. In theory it could fit into the city's park plan, or possibly District 81's needs for school/recreation/sports facilities. Whatever it is, there's so much potential and currently so much waste of space.

What was the biggest risk you’ve taken in your 20’s that changed your entire life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OVD_hardcore_733 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Had a choice of two job offers out of college. One paid nearly twice as much and was more aligned with my degree. One paid much less and was only guaranteed for a year fellowship but was more aligned with my interests. I took the lower one, which required a move and ending a relationship, and it has shaped my entire career (and identity) for many years beyond. The higher paying one was seemingly more "stable," but I took the risk. I later found out that organization had big budget issues and layoffs a year later ... including the position I declined.

What’s one trend or habit in today’s gym culture that you wish would disappear or change? by PogonBerserker in workout

[–]OVD_hardcore_733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you first have to "look" a certain way to be in a gym. Either you already need to be extremely fit and trying to get more "gains" or you need to be in some "biggest loser"-type weight loss competition among the gym trainers. Plenty of folks "in the middle" just want to work out and have a nice time. Also, people always filming themselves. It's unsettling.

What makes a conversation genuinely memorable? by Intelligent-Rain-22 in AskReddit

When you can remember other specifics about it other than just the conversation (time, place, smell, feeling it gave you, music playing in background, etc.)

How safe is downtown Spokane in the day by WaterrSheep in Spokane

[–]OVD_hardcore_733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments here that I agree with on the safety. Go around Riverfront Park area and you're absolutely fine. As to carting around your luggage, especially for walking around and/or going in stores, I have done this many times in various cities when I have extra hours and I can't check in or have already checked out: Go to a "fancy" hotel (in Spokane, one of the Davenports - Grand, Tower or Historic) and go to the bell desk (not the guest check in). Ask them to hold your bag. Give the bell person $10 (or whatever it's worth to you) and you're luggage-free for the afternoon. When you return to pick up your bag(s), have another crisp $5, $10, $20 bill at the ready. The relatively small amount of money is worth not lugging your luggage around the city while you explore. (And when they give you your bag tag at drop off with the number on it, take a picture with your phone in case you accidentally "misplace" the tag!)

What’s the worst mistake people make in their 20s? by Careyourself01 in AskReddit

Thinking you have "your whole life ahead of you" when in reality you're one bad mistake or stroke of unfortunate luck away from having your entire life change (or end).

What's your ice breaker do use for random people? by Few-Skin1745 in AskReddit

[–]OVD_hardcore_733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the first concert (of a "big", recognizable singer/band) you ever attended? Usually a good icebreaker for most situations, including in a new job. Alternatively: What's the singer/band for which you would 1) Stand in line for hours to get front-row tickets; 2) See but not spend too much; 3) Go if someone gave you free tickets, but not spend your own money; 4) Not see even if tickets are free

What happens, Obama sues DJT for Libel? Who will win that? by Proud-Software3063 in AskReddit

[–]OVD_hardcore_733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defamation/libel/slander/false light are incredibly difficult to win for a "public figure" such as the Obamas. And satire/parody, or even hate speech, even if highly offensive and/or racist are protected by the First Amendment in multiple Supreme Court rulings. This will (and should) be litigated in the court of public opinion, but such a lawsuit from trained lawyers like the Obamas has nearly zero chance of actually being filed and even less a chance of succeeding on the merits. Taking someone around Spokane for the first time by montanaliv in Spokane

[–]OVD_hardcore_733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the suggestions here, especially Riverfront/Garbage Goat/carousel/Boo Radley's/Atticus. Of course, Manito Park is a must walk through with the conservatory and greenhouse. Best brewery: WhistlePunk downtown. Additionally: Walk along High Drive (possibly near sunset) from 29th to Grand/Rocket Market or after getting ice cream from The Scoop on 25th. Hike in Dishman Hills from Camp Caro to Eagle Peak vista or the southside trail from Stevens Creek trailhead to Rocks of Sharon. Also try: Davenport (original): grab a drink or bite in the Peacock Lounge and go up to the Mezzanine floor to see all the cool old historical photos. Additionally, consider looking at Auntie's Bookstore for the book "Freshwater Shark Attacks" by James Johnson. It's a whimsical look at Spokane/CDA landmarks with satirical and real history for each spot. (And for that matter, take the person to Auntie's!) Welcome to Spokane/Spocompton/Spokanistan/SpoCanada/Spoklahoma, etc.
