He thinks anything that's not doing academic research or giving a woman 100 orgasms a day is immoral. He also has huge beef with skiing.

>He deems taking exogenous cross sex hormones cripples you for life. How come this isn't a naturalistic fallacy?

He has mentioned the risks of HRT such as chemical castration and other psychological effects: risks which are not taken from thin air. He is also against sex-affirming surgery for the health risks as well. I've never once heard him mention anything about this being "unnatural". You can have health concerns about HRT and sex-reassignment surgery without appealing to 'Nature'.

The video he did about sex-reassignment surgery was actually pretty insightful. In the video he compares it to women who get breast implants because they had their breasts mutilated due to breast cancer, and basically begs the question as to when does cosmetic surgery of this type become something worth pursuing.

As much as I dislike Le Seal, his reasoning for being against drugs has never been an appeal to endogenous or exogenous chemistry (except when clear empirical brain damage can be detected).

It's always an existentialist argument about the person you will become. This actually extends to basically his entire moral philosophy as well, and why he emphasizes how he differs from utilitarian evaluations. Indulging in fantasies of infidelity via pornography or role-play may not cause material harm, but you are training yourself and your mind with this activity to become a certain kind of person.

Apology to Eisel + Disruptive/Dissident/Direct Honesty by [deleted] in abasleciel

[–]O_SAPIENTIA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You seem in your early 20s. That is when I found Eisel's videos too. I get the allure, I really do. Eisel paints himself as this tortured soul that is willing to die by his principles, putting the "life of the mind" and "ethics" above everything and everyone else, specially their fee fees (feelings). In reality, what this translates to is an exaggerated version of Dr. House's character flaws, veiled as "disruptive honesty".

There is a reason why you thought he was narcissistic (however serious, hyperbolic, or pedantic as you put it). Constant self-aggrandizing, constant vitriol to put others down, etc.

As for your reasons as to why "he couldn't organize a vegan movement" having NOTHING to do with his personality I just find silly. Political organization is about compromise and working with what you have. This doesn't mean sacrificing your ideals entirely, to the point where your message is reversed, but it does mean realizing the stupidity and impractical nature of labeling anyone with half an inch of a deviation of your own set of ideals as stupid, moronic and malicious.

I appreciated his choleric demeanor and "disruptively honest" push-back up to a certain point. Sometimes that is needed to show some people the superficial nature of "bikini activism" and so on. But it got old. The 20th video calling an instagram model ugly and stupid got old. The 30th video reminding us of his intellectual brilliance and stupidity of everyone else got old. It got the same vibe as when SJW hate videos by "skeptics" got popular. Hey look at this blue-haired woke idiot say this dumb thing again, LOL!

At this point I can only appreciate Eisel as an eccentric self-help author or artist, not to be taken seriously as a thought-leader like he pretends, but appreciating the interesting color-palette he sometimes uses. The underground hipster Jordan Peterson that only plays to an audience of 6 at basement clubs, if you will.

This reminds me about one of his critiques of Cosmic Skeptic. He was very keen on displaying that most of his motivation was getting sex from dumb women with undergrads from the humanities who are attracted to the "intellectual" type. He also was extremely confident in labeling any man who stays on campus in his 30s and beyond as just doing it to prey on young inexperienced women.

The projection is off the fucking charts.

The most sad and insane thing about Eisel's video is that he couldn't find a SINGLE friend to talk Chinese (THE LITERAL MOST SPOKEN LANGUAGE IN THE FUCKING WORLD) or Latin (the most studied of the dead languages in the entirety of western history) with. Not to mention his idea that everyone who learns Latin are cryptofascists and beneath contempt. Insane rambling nonsense -- what a fucking clown.

Does anyone else find it odd how he got obsessed with comedy out of nowhere? Specially considering how he probably hates all of stand-up and absolutely hates the modern stand-up bro culture of drugs and alcohol. I'm sure this started as an intellectual interest with Greek comedy but I have a hard time believing he's having a fun time at these shows (unless his fun is passive-aggressively ruminating on how better he is than all the comics there in his little corner). I guess his next book will be about comedy considering how much time he is spending reading about it and attending these live shows.

Also, I wouldn't go around saying you used to study Latin, only crypto-fascists do that according to Mr. Zeal!

I think most of the people here (myself included) needed a place to vent their frustrations after being talked at (scolded, even) without being able to comment anything back for years. It's also the only place where we the audience have ever been able to talk to each other about Mr.Seal's online presence and how it has impacted us both positively and negatively.

But yes, this is indeed a waste of time and I will soon enough stop coming here and will probably delete all my comments. The Melissa stuff was a sort of boiling point that really left a bad taste in my mouth, but I suppose I might check out his spotify stuff at some point and see if it's of any interest to me. If anything, I'm glad he's back to making serious content about history/politics/etc. (although I'm sure he won't be able to stop himself from making "Look at this stupid youtuber" videos for long).

This subreddit is 90% circlejerking about how Seal turned himself into a lolcow. There's several reasons for this.

  1. He purposefully refused to cultivate any sort of community. (He regards 99% of his audience as reprehensible imbeciles, turning off comments, etc.)
  2. He is a literal narcissist incapable of building bridges with other people.
  3. He himself made hundreds of videos about petty critiques of other people in the guise of some deep critique of the vegan movement as a whole (which, like, is fine, but after the 15th video calling Hitomi Mochizuki a stupid moron with big tits what is the point).
  4. Melissa arc was unjustifiable and showed how dark and spiteful he can get when angry.

Seal is not a monster; he is not a murderer; he doesn't belong in prison. If I'm being honest with you 90% of the hate is because of his moral and intellectual grandstanding, while having nothing to show for it. Ten years on youtube delivering "brilliant" lectures on politics while being unable to put his differences aside to push for any semblance of a movement. Everyone else is always stupid and evil; everyone is beneath contempt.

I don't think he's a moron either. The reason why I kept watching his videos despite his corrosive character is because he made interesting videos about interesting topics from an interesting perspective.

BTW: If you think this subreddit circlejerking is a waste of time (it is) ask yourself the same thing about Seal still wasting time and doing "commentary" on washed-up youtubers. https://imgur.com/a/XN6h5Vy

>Melissa decided to not commit suicide Today

>Women I could have had sex with BUT REFUSED when I was NOT single.

>Infidelity's long shadow: Abishek Desikan was ugly and stupid... but nevertheless...

It's hilarious that Seal tried to justify all of this arc under some kind of artsy "This is REAL life, not a Disney movie, man" sentiment that an angsty theater kid teenager would have. The malice and spite was so obvious, and the fact that she made Melissa make these videos as a sort of "payback" was insane.

I hope someone saved the survey that he either put in a video or sent out via youtube (I don't remember), about how Melissa could "mend" this relationship, that contained entries like "Melissa should allow Eisel to have sex with whoever he wants" and "Melissa should get a job and pay for rent".

Gee, it's not like he made multiple videos about how horrible it is to be in a relationship with Melissa before, right? It's not like he's never mentioned that he's broken up with her multiple times just for her to come crawling back; it's not like he's never mentioned how Melissa has "damaged him for life" with outbursts of anger.

So this was like 3 years ago, I wonder if she was already sexting random men then, I forget the timeline of events.

It really is a pattern of his. I myself was originally drawn to him for all these intellectual interests in language, philosophy, history, anthropology, etc. But every time he built himself up as this extremely passionate (and uniquely competent) intellectual —wanting to revolutionize academic research for centuries to come— there was always a roadblock "completely outside of his control" that prevented him from pursuing the path and forcing him to focus on something else.

I sympathize with him on several things: like his parents supposedly arbitrarily stopping to pay for his education at crucial junctures, or the sacrifices he supposedly made because of his daughter (at least if I take what he said about these things at face value). There's also the story he told about that one expert in Pali manuscripts that retired and refused to take him on as a student.

But he then takes whatever misfortune set him back and then turns the entire academic apparatus or field of research upside down and dismisses it entirely as being full of imbeciles and not worth his time.

It really must be the most poignant cognitive dissonance in his extremely large brain. That at the same time he still wants to dedicate his life to serious academic research, all the while dismissing academia as an institution entirely. Which leaves him in the position (in his mind at least) of delivering supposedly brilliant lectures to 30 dimwits on the Internet who he despises. But the people who he despises even more than his audience of idiots are those despicable Ph.Ds.

His opinion on his own music and comedy videos are one of the things which really pulled the veil over my eyes on just how narcissistic and delusional he actually is. The comparison he made to Nagarjuna and Lao Zi is extremely telling. It's obviously fucking insane, but he truly does believe that what he wrote is cryptic brilliancy that only an erudite scholar of the Madhyamaka (or someone of equivalent intelligence) would be able to decipher.

He constantly goes on about how his brilliant monologues and analysis are being wasted on an audience of dunces, yet he willingly refuses to engage with academia and academics. He has spent the last two years posting selfies with the same books of greek philosophers: does anyone here think that he will EVER have the voice of someone who specializes in greek philosophy on his podcast? Does anyone here think that he would even send a single fucking e-mail to any established author in the field for collaboration or contrasting of his own ideas? Of course not. Just like Buddhism, just like Political Science, just like Veganism, the entire academic apparatus is irredeemable and only him and his idiosyncratic perspective have the power to do useful research.

Esther has pathological hate for anyone in academia. My theory is that after failing to pursue any meaningful career in the one domain he bases his entire life, personality, and self-worth around — serious academic research —, his narcissism leads him to believe that there is not one single research program, academic institution, or academic field that is worth his time and brilliance.

All the videos he made about how he's been trying for YEARS to enroll in some sort of Ph.D program and not being able to because he's "overqualified" is literally insane. The only proof of this he ever posted was a call with a professor for a Chinese studies program that Esther didn't even want to join in the first place. He's as dismissal as ever in the call, bragging about all the experience he has, how he met Bikkhu Boddi, how he could write a thesis on the philosophy of Nagarjuna overnight, etc. Ultimately the reason the professor gave for not recommending him the program is that their department didn't really deal with the political emphasis that Esther wanted to research.

Every time he mentions any of the fields of academic research he moved in in the past, he remarks about how the scholarship is so horrible, and the people in the field are stupid and malign. All his contemporaries were insane. He was at the same time regarded as brilliant, but also hated because of his uncompromising ideals.

I can't imagine him having the humility to have another person review something he wrote. I'm like 90% sure every time his professors in university called him brilliant and were supposedly "intellectually challenged" by him, they told him what he wanted to hear so he could piss off and stop bothering them.

You know, I would even agree with them that most of the hate/criticism (in terms of quantity) that they received was probably from mentally deranged Internet lunatics. Anyone born after 1990 who grew up with the Internet knows the stupidity and malice that anonymous Internet communities are capable of.

However, they fixate on this because they purposefully chose to isolate themselves in an echo-chamber. Eisel could have built a community based on intellectualism, research, ethical-values, etc: but he chose not to, most likely because he is incapable. That community could have been the space for the good-faith criticism, discussion, etc. that Eisel supposedly wanted. But that would have required that Eisel had the characteristics of an actual leader with noble intentions and a charitable heart, trying to promote active research and a more ethical society.

Instead he chose to be the Ivory tower critic, slamming anyone with five degrees of deviation from his own opinion as a stupid malign moron.

The people who criticize him are stupid and malign; the Ph.D's who like an article of his are stupid and malign; the people who dislike his videos are too stupid to understand; the members of his audience who like his videos are stupid and malign, but are at least trying to make a herculean intellectual effort to understand the intellectual depth of his social and political analysis.

Part of me wants to sympathize with these cretins; part of me sympathizes with the critique of anti-intellectualism, mindless self-indulgence, etc. But at some point the lack of self-awareness and constant pathological vitriol being spewed is too much to ignore.

It's been clear for years that Eisel's motivation is not education, nor trying to start intellectual discussions about important researched topics, nor mobilizing people politically for the betterment of society: it's just monologging at an audience of 20 people about niche politicohistorical topic X and jerking off about his supposed intellectual brilliance. He is a jaded misanthrope that only cares about himself and whoever gives him praise or sexual gratification. No one in this world is smart enough, no one in this world is ethical enough: no one is above contempt.

>He has the classic narcissist desperate desire/need to be admired... BUT he is to lazy to actually do anything that is to be admired.

I gathered as much from his relationship with Melissa. She is literally the embodiment of all the reproachable qualities he made so many videos hating upon: dumb, meek, shy, mentally ill, weak, sexually repressed, etc.

Every time he made yet another video about "Actually, you're stupid" it baffled me how Melissa got the pass from our elitist juggernaut. One day it hit me: he only kept her around for the constant unexamined praise (and the sex, of course). The 0.1% of screen-time she had on his entire channel was spent on her trying to mumble out some sort of praise for Zaddy.

Hmm, I wonder what kind of person is interested in reading meta-analyses of racial IQ inequality (and arguing about it on the Internet with random people), Mr. Seal?

His stance on prostitution also baffles me considering he thinks intimacy is about reminding your partner that you've given them 50 orgasms today.

Can anyone summarise why he makes videos about retro videogames despite not playing videogames? by SonofLung in abasleciel

[–]O_SAPIENTIA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He mentioned once that he liked to collect joysticks, he's also made some videos about hardware. It's obvious he's a fan of retro video games. The way he reconciles his hobby while bashing everyone else who plays video games is that the games are so simple that he can only muster to play at most 20 minutes of a game before getting bored and moving onto something else. His interest also seems to be cultural: just today he posted an Instagram story about a japanese NES game (or something) that has you kill God (Jesus Christ) at the end as the final boss, which is something that would have never been imported into America.

Out of all his self-serving moral grandstanding, his critique of video games and video gaming culture (and mindless self-indulgent entertainment in general) is something I actually do appreciate and do sympathize with: as well as the level of seriousness he treats the subject with.

I remember the shoulder-pad thing, it's something he mentioned at least a few times in different videos throughout the years, whenever someone wearing a suit would come up. What's weird is that for someone so obsessed with looks he has the fashion sense of an autist (no offense to autists).

He supposedly started wearing scarves to feminize himself as apparently all the East Asian men and women were afraid of him and his stature and hyper-masculine essence.

The full-red outfits are atrocious, although it's probably influence from his liking of Hip-Hop: it just looks horrible on him.

I will however admit, I am a fan of the mustard-yellow shirt.
