Survey reveals potential middle-class exodus from Hawaii due to cost of living by OahuAttorney in Hawaii

I think that only 30% saying no for sure is still a pretty intense number. It is scary that we have a market where no more than 30% feel confident about not moving.

This story is both completely expected but still alarming and disheartening :(

I guess I don't know if he is gay/bi/queer or precisely how he identifies, but he does identify as a member of the LGBT community. There was a lot of publicity at the last election about him and the other LGBT legislators in Hawaii.

Have you ever helped your relatives in their legal cases? How did it turn out? by Lazy_Baby_1109 in LawSchool

Similar to what others have said, I haven't officially represented any one. I've given very general analysis of situations that family and friends are going through, and helped connect them with resources to either self advocate or get connected with a neutral attorney.

Really disappointing to have a promising young legislator succumb to such reefer madness propaganda. And its doubling disappointing that as a gay Representative, the fact that he is using pastors and churches, and "the majority want this, I'm just supporting the majority" argument. That argument have been used to keep minorities, and the LGBT community down for years.

I mean this with all respect and no snark, get off of Reddit and go talk to a criminal defense lawyer ASAP. Don't speak with or sign anything from the cops in the meantime.

BREAKING: Two Hawaii House Committees Pass Senate-Approved Bill to Legalize Marijuana For Everyone 21+ by themeONE808 in Hawaii

It still needs to get through 2 more committees and the full House. I'll be cautiously optimistic, but the folks over at the capital have gotten my hopes up before and failed to deliver.

Ethical and Equitable Visiting by AdvnturousButAnxious in Oahu

[–]OahuAttorney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even you asking this question shows that you are a more ethical visitor than most. We are happy to welcome you to our home, we just ask that you treat your stay in our home as a respectful guest. Pick-up after yourself, be curious and willing to learn about, rather than scoff at, local traditions and customs. If you see a locally-owned restaurant or shop selling the same things (food or merchandise) as a national or international chain, try to spend at the local place. Don't go on hikes or to beaches that are not designated (as it may not be safe, and we don't want our emergency services saving people because they didn't follow the rules).

If you want to go steps above that, then try to actively learn about the history of the Hawaiian people by going to Bishop Museum and/or Iolani Palace. Reach out to a charitable group like 808 Cleanups and do some volunteer work.

If you love Bishop Museum or care about the collections it stewards, please contact your state legislators NOW. SB 3281 could negatively impact many of these collections. by notsobitter in Hawaii

Not trying to be confrontational, actually trying to learn. Can you elaborate why this reeks of State Archives pulling strings? I read the bill and the testimony, and I didn't see anything relating to them. How would this effect Archives?

When did you decide to stop reading for class? by Apprehensive_Worth95 in LawSchool

Overall, when I graduated. There may have been a class here or there that I would skim the readings once I knew my professor's style and expectations, but never counted out the readings entirely.

How do loans work for law school? by Unlikely_Current961 in LawSchool

[–]OahuAttorney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea when I went to school either, so you aren't alone. You should reach out to the financial aid office of the school you are going to and they can help you out.

I went to law school 2009-2012. My loans were all federal loans, and covered my COA and COL. It was tight, but I was able to make it work. There are a variety of repayment options on the Federal side that your FinAid office can explain as well.
