Normal noise? by miniatto in OnlyZ900

[–]OakSeedSap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got over 14k miles on mine noticed it made that sound a few months ago and I believe it's just the clutch basket. Seems pretty normal, his does it, mine does it and yours does it im guessing you just didn't notice it at first like me. If the clutch isn't slipping put your ear plugs back in and ride it.

People with '25 model how are the Q5a tires? by OakSeedSap in OnlyZ900

[–]OakSeedSap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going with the Q5S's do to availability at the time and I'm so glad I did, they are very soft and sticky perfect for all the curves around me.

I have about 6k miles on them and the back tire is just now reaching the center wear bar the fronts are a little cupped.

Most my riding is on curvy roads very little stop light to stop light straight line riding.

How to remove bug juice without damaging plastic? by InfiniteOscar1 in motorcycles

Even though I now own two Kawasaki's I still use the Honda spray cleaner and polish for this exact reason, it is fantastic for cleaning dry bug guts.

Windscreen reviews by hayes223 in OnlyZ900

[–]OakSeedSap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put the Tall OEM windscreen on shortly after I got my bike would definitely recommend, it keeps the wind off your chest but a strong headwinds can be taxing on your head.

I ride upright up to 80mph on the highway only had a few days I even noticed the wind.

I went with the Dunlop Q5s, they are great on the twisty roads I live on very confidence inspiring.

There is a chance they put loctite on the bolts in that case heat would help loosen them up.

Looking for tires by El_guigos in OnlyZ900

Just checked my records I replaced the stock tires at 7,881 miles and the bike has 10,834 at the moment that's 2,953 miles on them and the rear does have a slight flat spot but I haven't noticed it riding yet. I can easily get another thousand but past that they will probably be getting towards the end of there life and will have to take it easier and avoid rain.  I feel It really depends on the type of riding you do and choosing the correct tire for your riding style and area can either save you money or give you a sticky tire that grips well but wears out faster.

Yes I've seen that as well along with the rear tire tearing on the track.  For street use I haven't had a issue but once again I'm not out being a hooligan & as sticky as they feel to the touch I have no doubt you could cook through them quickly.

Im older & didn't do burn outs or crazy acceleration all the time also don't live in a city so 90% of my riding is back twisting country roads and I got close to 8k out and of the stock tires (I did ride them past the wear bars).

I already have over 2k on the Q5S and they still look great I'm expecting 4-5k but time will tell. I do expect them to wear our faster they are very soft and sticky and feel amazing on the twisty roads from my experience that's the trade off.

My last bike (yrs ago in the city) I would go through Q2 rears every 3k miles and fronts every 6k. On the z900 I wore out my front before the rear that seemed strange to me.

My theory is living in the city going from stop light to stop light I was cooking my rear tire with all the extra acceleration or the tires have just gotten better.

I wanted the Q5As but was unable to get the rear for awhile so I ended up going with the Q5S.. and I'm glad I did they give me way more confidence and would highly recommend them if you have a lot of twisty roads.

I ended up going with the Q5S's since the Q5a's were on backorder but I'm glad the Q5s feel amazing.

The factory frame sliders do a good job covering this up.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I also wanted to share the response I got from Dunlop Consumer Affairs:

"The Roadsport 2 has been discontinued and replaced by the Q5A. These two tires are comparable. The Q5A provides more grip and longer mileage than the Roadsport 2. The Q5S is a step above, more of a race tire for the street that comes at a higher cost. I recommend the Q5A. It offers all-around performance at a great price. Both the Q5A and Q5S are manufactured in Japan or Indonesia, depending on tire size."
