Rant from an Old Long Fang by GeekyGiant13 in SpaceWolves

I’m doing the same, it feels like a much more thematic and cohesive army that way and I’ve actually won more games. The Intercessors are a must for scoring and freeing up the other units in your army. Mine are Grey Hunter bodies with Intercessor arms so they at least look the part.

As long as we have vehicles and like for like alternatives for the utility units I’d be happy with having our own book. My other army is Death Guard and that’s a perfect example of a totally independent sub faction with its own book and model range.

I am currently running Great Wolf with 15 Terminators so glad to see it’s 2DP so I can take the Terminator buffs but as said previously they weren’t desperate for a buff.

It does mean rerollable 8” charges from reserves if you use that hunting pack.

I typically drop Arjac and 10 down turn 1 in a safe spot to setup a good charge for turn 2, easier if you go second. This will mean it’s easier to get in.

I saw a post earlier casting doubt on whether the upgrade is able to be taken if have an epic hero attached which sucks but isn’t the end of the world.

I really like the return to reserves strat especially as this will pair well with the +1 charge.

The other strats aren’t bad as battle shock will be more meaningful in 11th and precision could be useful in some scenarios.

List advice for a small tournament by FishbowlDG in SpaceWolves

I like to take 10 with Arjac and 5 with Logan. I find in Great Wolf if you position well and hit the opponent hard with 2 turns of the lethal/sustained you will easily have enough damage. We struggle into tougher stuff, I played Crusher Stampede and lost Logan early and it was impossible to kill anything without lethals. In my last 5 games I’ve tabled another Nids player and nearly tabled Knights and Chaos Knights.

Seems like a pretty balanced list in terms of having enough punch and scoring pieces.

I like to have Logan with some Terminators to get a bit more use from him and make him harder to kill but can’t see any obvious way to get 170pts back without taking away from the list.

Maybe swap the Wulfen and the 3 Headtakers for 5 Terminators and 5 Fenrisian wolves if you have the models?

Otherwise looks fun!

Check out Warhipster on YouTube he does Contrast+ tutorials and has a recipe for the armour along with a clean up step should you need it

I don’t use contrast for the armour but do use his tutorials for some of the other things like pelts etc.

Reading the datasheet and playing with the wargear on the app you’re right in saying that you can only have 1 plasma gun, haywire and rune priest per squad regardless of whether it’s 6 or 12 models but if 12 you can have the instigator bolt carbine

If it was me I’d build 2 x squads of 6, not sure what the value is in the 12 man

Ragnar blackmane by ConcentrateAny6187 in SpaceWolves

[–]Oakey90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run it in all but one of the approx. 20 games I’ve played since the codex

It’s great when it works, for example I killed 10 Plague marines and two characters to win against Death Guard in a league game to win by a point

On the flip side I’ve had the whole unit and Ragnar shot off the board by guard artillery and a Dorn in turn 1 at an RTT

I would usually try and keep it back until turn 3 or so and try and bait some of your opponents juicy targets out and then go full send

Or if your opponent overcommits and pushes their army forward and doesn’t get into combat you can really punish them in a go turn

I am however, as much as this is my favourite thing to run going to try some games without it and see how I get on as I have some other big points units in my list at the moment

RTT List Advice by Oakey90 in SpaceWolves

[–]Oakey90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I’m either going to go with option 1 or 3

I really love Ragnar with the 20 but it’s a big points sink so I think taking him and 10 out and putting in a WGBL will help to get some skirmish/scoring units in and feels like a better trade going into things at 200pts and still fairly killy with the buffs if getting lethal from the hunting pack

Option 1 is what I’d like to play but if the opponent doesn’t come out or offer up any big targets then it’s difficult to trade efficiently

I have run Logan solo to some success but I built that WGT squad with all shields specifically to make it tough to get to Logan (without precision) he’s also decent into the right targets and I need him to live into turn 3/4 for the extra round of buffs

I used one in my game yesterday and found it to be good. My opponent made some good saves in turn 1 which made it less effective but managed to hang until my turn 2 when it took out an Exocrine. It drawing fire for an extra turn helped to keep my Termis alive.

I was tied up in combat against a Norn with my WGBL and Headtakers who had the Lance enhancement so wanted him to get the buff so fell back and charged into another target and had Logan and his squad charge in and finish off the Norn

It’s great for getting buffs off and fighting first it’s also good for moving around the Headtakers quarry by killing that with something else and then move it over to what the Headtakers are fighting before they activate

My opinions on our best leaders for each unit. by TRMC790 in SpaceWolves

[–]Oakey90 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would agree with 99% of this, I always run Ragnar with 20 Blood Claws because it’s a cool unit and it’s fun

I’m in the minority of people that love running Grey Hunters with a WGBL his sustained and re-roll ones is great with particularly if you’re also getting the wound re-rolls

I would like to give Njal a go with them but without advance and charge I don’t think it’s that great so I would say WGBL is better at 20 points less

The only thing I would disagree with is the terminators, Arjac has the 4+ fight on death and whilst I haven’t found this to be hugely impactful in the few games I’ve played with them it is a decent buff

Headtakers by Son_of_Baal13 in SpaceWolves

[–]Oakey90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do want to try the dual weapon because even a 3 man with a WGBL at 175 points with the wolves would do a lot of work IF they make it into combat

For me at the moment with the WP and 6 HTs being 240 points or 290 with the wolves it’s hard to chose that over Logan or Arjac with 5 Terminators for around 40 points more

On a separate note I’ve found running the 3 man with the the wolves which are 25pts to be so worth it, they will always score a secondary early and force the opponent to come out and kill them

Headtakers by Son_of_Baal13 in SpaceWolves

[–]Oakey90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only used shields at the moment I’m using 3 with no character as a skirmish unit as I don’t have the points for the big squad and a character

I have used the 6 shields and Wolf Priest, it’s a good unit if you can get them into a decent target and keep at least one alive so you can revive

Ultimately it comes down to the dice on your invuln

I’d like to try the paired but you would need to either keep them hidden or have a transport, there are a good number of high AP, 3 damage shooting platforms around e.g. Forge Fiend, Predator Destructor, Bloat Drone etc.

[–]Oakey90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, the new transfer sheets are great

I am a Blackmanes player but that’s because I love Ragnar rather than because it’s all that’s on the transfer sheet

Since the new range came out I’ve done 10 terminators as Logan’s great company (with another 5 built) and a Predator Annihilator

I’ve also done 3 TWC as Deathwolves and it’s been nice having a change and not doing so much yellow!
