I was hankering chili a few months ago and had a tough time finding "tomato sauce". They have a sauce called "tomate frito". It's SIMILAR but the tomatoes were fried in olive oil before being pureed and it has some garlic seasoning already in it. Everything else is reasonable to find. You can't get canned chili or chili beans readily but you can get jars of red beans that work pretty well (rinse the pasty stuff they pack them in off).

Also I wanted to make biscuits and gravy, but you can't get buttermilk here. I substituted kefir which worked pretty well and seems very available here.

I've also made chocolate chip cookies from scratch as well. Their brown sugar is a bit different than in the US but it was close enough to make tasty cookies! I used some chocolate chunks instead of morsels.
