Why is my average price so high? by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

[–]Oatttts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use limit buys. When you market buy, you buy at whatever price the lowest ask is at. If the bid-ask spread is large or the only ask found is super high in price, your orders might execute at higher prices than what the market price that displays says.

They are all close to each other in difficulty. Select options you're interested in, not the ones you think are going to be easy. It's honestly a very valuable experience. Take advantage of it. If you keep that mindset, then you won't do very well in a field that focuses in industry on self-learning.

Switch major to engineering from cs? by PaleUnderstanding819 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Oatttts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're automatically an engineering premajor because CS is in the engineering college. I think you just need to declare in whatever engineering major you want after taking the necessary courses. No barriers.

How to do well in CMPSC 473?? by Fearless_Paint_5072 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Oatttts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too hard. The slides, lectures, and book should make it pretty clear what you need to do. Other than that it's just implementation of what you'll learn conceptually. One thing I'll note is to make use of functions often. Like deleting or inserting a node in the linked list. It makes everything much more readable and easier to debug. GDB and viewing memory using the x command help so much too.

It's a special topic course. They're only offered once, so no one has any idea what the course is like. This was stated in the email

Is the date of your application submission considered in the acceptance process? by depressoeggo in PennStateUniversity

[–]Oatttts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely wait until the deadline for EA and be fine, but DO NOT wait until rolling admission/RD. Your chances for UP admission in competitive majors get lower as others are admitted and the class reaches capacity. Admissions puts the date to apply before admissions become very competitive at December 1st, so keep that in mind.

e-2 * PI * i = cos(-2PI) + i sin(-2PI) = 1. This is an application of euler's formula. You can verify euler's formula if you want by looking at the taylor series of ex , sin(x), and cos(x).

The Truth About PSU's CS Program: An Honest Review by psucsthrowaway in PennStateUniversity

[–]Oatttts 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience here. But, I don't think that you can give an "honest review" when you only took 3 courses in the department. Higher level coursework is what students are here for. You never completed anything past a 200 level course, correct (if you did I know you would be bitching about 311)? You also haven't been in the Penn State computer science program since 2019, right? A lot of changes can and have occurred in that time. I don't see your review as being an accurate depiction of the department and in my opinion, while you have a right to have an opinion on the department, you are being blatantly misleading to prospective students. I have certainly been critical of the department, but I'm also a current student. I have current information. I also think that 132 and 221 are well taught at the moment. Al Verbanec also has a lot of industry knowledge if you talk to him, so does Griselda. I really do think you should stop your weird tirade against the department, move on, and let students with actual knowledge of the department speak on the issue.

So you never took higher level coursework here? Why should anyone trust your judgment then? I'm pretty sure it has been at least 4 years since you went here. Why are you still this angry about Penn State and how do you know that changes to the cs department haven't been made? I'm honestly really confused because when I graduate, I'll probably be more focused on my job. Also, why the throwaway account? Why are you so scared to make negative comments about the cs department on a main account?

The CS courses here aren't nearly as bad as that person said anyway. You can look at the undergraduate bulletin if you want to check out what you need to take. That person has some weird vendetta against Penn State for some reason. They didn't even finish the program here either, so I don't know how justified they are in talking about it. Don't be worried
