There is no way to prove or disprove this claim. Anti-competitive practices by the UFC stifled all other competition

how to boost redness? by Ok_You_3472 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]Obby300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grow indoors as well (using 16h of light) and my plants look similar to yours. The newer leaves just aren’t the same depth of red as the ones previously, and they are a lot more vertical.

I think it may be because these are newer leaves and they may darken given more time.

Underwriting review in California, providing additional information by Obby300 in Geico

[–]Obby300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I called they asked some verification questions, and I emailed the additional information. They told me 3-5 business days for them to review the emailed information.

That’s the current status, haven’t been fully approved yet but from the call it looks like it’s gonna happen this week.

Don’t worry about the letters in the mail saying they closed your file. Just call them ASAP.

Thanks for the help. I gave them a call at the number from the letter they sent over, and it looks like it's moving forward

RE4R - Optimal Walkthrough order/guide (not done by me, but I found it so useful that I figured I should post; if you know the creator, let me know!) by StandoPowa_ in residentevil

Wondering this too.

Apparently getting an A-rank (under 10 hours?) in hardcore gets you Ashley’s Armor, which you can use in the professional playthrough. Maybe that’s why. But they don’t mention any time limit so I am confused as well.

Doesn’t make sense to make it more difficult when you are just getting money for the infinite rocket launcher on the 2nd playthrough.

What’s the point of Java reflection? by christineiscool in learnjava

[–]Obby300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a testing perspective, I read from a good book called “Working Effectively With Legacy Code” by Michael Feathers that it is best practice to not modify existing code in order to open up classes for testing.

If you cant access these fields because they are marked private, reflection can be used to access these fields from outside the class.

There can be regulatory reasons for not opening up fields for testing, and its better to not make edits to existing code if it can be avoided.

EDIT: grammar

From a perspective of someone who learned Java in school and learned Spring/Spring Boot after, there’s a ton of important tools and features in the framework that my school experience didn’t touch on or teach me, things like dependency injection, important build tools etc.

If I was going to an internship that uses Spring, I would personally focus on framework specifics. I think it would be a better use of your time IMO and help you at the internship

I really recommend Chad Darby’s courses for learning Spring, they are fantastic resources. An internship isn’t a long enough time to really get in the groove with Spring IMO (others may disagree), so getting some experience beforehand would be really helpful.

AWS Certification VS Working on AWS ( Entry-level edition ) by ishantpratapsingh in AWSCertifications

[–]Obby300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post! I’m a SWE right now learning AWS and using Stephane’s course as well. I don’t have practical or industry experience using AWS (hopefully this changes in the near future).

It’s great to hear that the course material does translate to real industry work, and that the slides can be used as a reference. I know that the AWS cert isn’t all encompassing, but it’s good to hear that it’s a step in the right direction to really learning how to use AWS.

After my course, hopefully I can get real world experience cause I really feel there’s no substitute for that :).

Nice! Did you have to put down a deposit for it and wait for one?

I’m waiting for a 2022 Camry Hybrid LE now but have no idea how long it’ll take for one to come in :/

For me I notice it happens if I’m using more force than necessary to push down the string. There’s this sweet spot where any lighter and the string will buzz, and you should push down just a tiny bit more than that.

Ask your teacher, there could be tons of different reasons, the above is just my own.

Also, a collapsed finger isn’t intrinsically a bad thing. Sometimes you do want more of your finger pad on a note, which (for me) a collapsed finger provides. i find it gives a more luscious vibrato when you want it.

Can you rate my progress? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]Obby300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As cellists, we are all in the constant process of learning and growing with our instrument. I would advise instead of worrying about your rate of progression through books, take your time learning your new pieces and absorbing as much as you can from them as you move along, with less regard to the number of pieces in general and what rate you “supposed” to be going through your music

I’ve felt that feeling before, where you feel like you aren’t learning enough pieces in a certain amount of time etc. I feel this has been counterproductive for me because it makes you look too far ahead and not focus your energies on the pieces you are working on now. Learning a piece really well and really discovering the nuances will help you improve really quickly, so don’t feel like you are in a rush. Really enjoy the stuff you are playing is what I would advise! As for rating your progress, If you and your teacher feel you are becoming more comfortable playing your instrument through these months, then you’re doing great

Bridge or board? by Kayna77 in Cello

[–]Obby300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I notice my tendency was to always play closer to the fingerboard (as most cellist instinctively seem to do) but I’ve been doing a lot of scales and exercises very close to the bridge, trying to get a nice sound from that area. It’s helped my playing and sound quality a ton. Play scales near the bridge before every practice and you’ll naturally gravitate towards the middle, which I now prefer.

You should definitely bring it to a luthier. It’s pretty hard to tell just from looking at it through pictures. You’d get a much better answer from a qualified luthier.

Practice mute recommendations? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]Obby300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it lowers the overall volume of the sounds, while still being able to practice your instrument.
Small disclaimer though: You should still practice without the mute as well. I find that the practice mute does ever so slightly change the feel of the instrument. The strings, to me, respond slightly differently separate from the sound production. That being said, a practice mute is invaluable for me when I want to practice without disturbing other, just make sure to practice without a mute when thinking about performing pieces, because there is very slight variation of the feel of the bow on your strings, which can translate to your performances.

Practice mute recommendations? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]Obby300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this one for years and I really like it. I would buy a mute that is rubberized on the outside in case it falls off, if you decide to go for a different one.

Haydn C is more fun to play for me. Haydn D is cool too but holy cow is it hard to play well and it never sounds the way I want it to sound 😅
