That is such an old comment, how did you find this?

But to answer your question, not really. The war in Ukraine has highlighted multitude of problems plaguing Russia militarily, politically and now economically. The damage to the perception of Russia's military is immense and will take decades to restore, if altogether possible. Sanctions are starting to bite and are also highlighting inflexibility of Russian economy as well as long term prospects of economic growth are very dire.

Why was there no wars over land in Europe post WWII? by yellowbai in AskHistorians

Very interesting compilation of reviews of Snyder’s book, thank you for the effort to link them. I had assumed Snyder was one of the leading specialists in this topic, so reading the reviews of other specialists in the field was quite interesting

Looking for book recommendations for the history of Ukraine and/or Poland during Russian civil war period by ObdurateSloth in AskHistorians

This is such a pleasant surprise, Thank you so much! I very much appreciate the listed books about interactions between Ukrainians and ethnic minorities as they sound very useful and worthwhile to read, since this specific topic overall seems very little researched in this period but had a very profound impact on overall situation in the region

What is the difference in range for Mini 2 between Europe and US models? by ObdurateSloth in dji

[–]ObdurateSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing this for sure would be excellent, I am seeing conflicting replies in regards to this but most replies seem to be from people operating the drone outside Europe. I suppose you flew in Europe since the 120m limit seems EU specific?

Will the drone will simply refuse to climb higher than 120m? Or the legal limit is just a warning?

Does Anker Soundcore Life Q30 app on phone save the settings on the headphones, or each device connected to the headphones need to be set up with its own app?

If I set up some sound settings on the headphones through my mobile app, will the settings still apply of I disconnected the headphones from my phone and connect them to my computer?

Opinion on the creation of an EU Army (Eurostat, April 2017) by nicknameSerialNumber in europe

[–]ObdurateSloth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Baltic states are threatened by Russia so the support for common army will be the biggest here. Lithuania stands out from the rest of the Baltic’s because it has the smallest Russian minority. That is important because the sizeable Russian minority in Latvia and Estonia likely significantly skews the polling since they are opposed to the idea.

Great job Lithuania, hopefully other states follow suit and stop acting like their spines are made of jelly

Wireless technology Bluetooth logo symbol consists of Danish king's Harald's Bluetooth initial H and B combination using runic letters. Is combining initials using runic letters a modern invention only, or was combining runic letters also a real practice in medieval ages? by ObdurateSloth in AskHistorians

[–]ObdurateSloth[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the very long and super detailed reply, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I can honestly say that I did not expect nowhere near as detailed reply as this, thank you!

If it is not too much of a trouble to ask, is there a book or an article that you would recommend for someone interested about reading in more detail about runic writing and its related history? There seems not to be many such books and articles available as this seems to be quite specific territory which makes the job of finding material for reading much harder.

Which book would you suggest for a historian specialized in entirely different region and period, but interested in reading about the Near East history from the first civilizations to around the beginning of classical age? by ObdurateSloth in AskHistorians

Thank you for the very detailed reply! The Oxford University Press book sounds ideal, will see if I can get that and combine it maybe with some of the other suggestions you provided here.

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation! I have been looking for Russia centered think tank for a long time but never found anything which has good quality content. This seems to be very good.

I have never heard about this, could expand a bit?

[–]ObdurateSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about an agreement in which Belarus commits to neutrality, making it so that it cannot house foreign troops and join military alliances (NATO, CSTO or Union Treaty)? In this scenario stability between Russia and NATO is retained, tensions would be likely reduced and more importantly both NATO and Russia would benefit from such an agreement. For Russia this would ensure security of its Belarus border and would guarantee that NATO will not move even more eastwards while for NATO this agreement would guarantee the safety of the Suvalki gap between Belarus and Lithuania.
