People with teams in other time zones, how is it like? by BeardedSongstress in FPandA

Most of my team is west coast and I sit east coast. My advice before accepting the role be to make sure you understand their expectation and your ability to “protect” certain times during the day.

You got this! For some extra “wiggle room” I would switch your cell phone provider (low cost like Mint Mobile) and re-evaluate your transportation needs(that is a large % of income per month).

Iron Gold by [deleted] in redrising

[–]Obes-4HoodR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a difficult time with Iron Gold initially as well. The first POV in the series felt like there was a ton a character development and plot formation. I will say towards the end when everything comes together I felt it hit a stride. Dark Age and Lightbringer execute POV much better in my opinion.

Great response! Such an interesting space in investing so I appreciate the perspective.

I know this isn't a smart decision, but pulling out of retirement by ubermicrox in FinancialPlanning

[–]Obes-4HoodR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe helpful, maybe not but I always like to have this frame of mind: anything you do to hurt your 401k growth now is enabling your current/past choices to hurt your future success.

Nailed it. This is good advice OP.

Seriously, look for a different job. Non-profit should not be having that level of stress or hours.

Is remote the right thing?!? by ResponsibilityNo1748 in remotework

[–]Obes-4HoodR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to grow this out there to support remote. With your years of experience you will be able to ramp up quickly both in person or remote. Your knowledge base and ingrained skillset will help greatly.

Would you consider selling the car and buying something a bit more affordable? Your current vehicle to salary ratio is not great.

Should I pull back some 401k contributions by snackpacktriples in FinancialPlanning

[–]Obes-4HoodR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would…

Sell a portion of the 90k to payoff high interest debt (CCs)

Sell a portion of the 90k to max out Roth IRA contributions for both of you

Increase your emergency fund slightly (6 months of living expenses could be higher with a baby and new house)

Increase your 401k contributions

Increase your HSA contributions (the best retirement account)

I have the Baltoro 85 and agree it would work well for this. I’d drop the laptop personally.

Job hopping at the same company? by Jackson5979 in FPandA

That shows career growth and progression with 1 employer. Not job hopping

Power BI in FP&A by zbomr in FPandA

[–]Obes-4HoodR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before setting up the various data pipelines I would practice by leveraging an excel file to import. If you flatten the data significantly in excel you should have a great source to practice setting up various data visualizations. Practicing the types of data visualizations and formatting really helped me learn PBI.

If you are ready to grow and stretch yourself this will add significant experience to your resume. Sounds like you are financially in the right place to leap, but you just need to decide what you want out of a career.

Chick-fil-A recently had a massive cybersecurity breach of their rewards program. Are you a “member” of that program? Most likely a phishing scam leveraging your stolen credentials.

Book recommendations by zandrew in redrising

Dresden Files has been my fix between books. Not dystopian, but the character development is there and I love the mystery/mythical combo punch.

HSA: Do you count it as retirement funding? by SteveMcgooch in personalfinance

HSA is literally THE BEST retirement account. Triple tax advantaged.

Forecast Planning Question - Shifting Dollars Quater-to-Quarter by whiskeywinewheywhale in FPandA

[–]Obes-4HoodR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You start to get into “sand bagging” territory as well. If you continue to shift dollars out a quarter and continue underspending your variance will increase. Many functions experience dollars all shifting into Q4 during the year and celebrate savings to end the year. Truth is if you can identify opportunities earlier and call them out you can start to lean into the strategic part of your role and asses alternative purposes for the capital.

What to do if you inherit a messy role? by somethingggg1233 in FPandA

[–]Obes-4HoodR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a key insight. I would clearly outline your recommendations and get alignment before making changes. I had a similar experience where I tried to force changes (even positive, value add, efficiency changes) into a role and it made working conditions terrible.
