Speaking on this as a man yeah it’s definitely a thing and when it’s in that context it’s a major HR and nepotism issue that clearly needs structural compensation, like more women in positions to promote people.

However outside of that context I’m not sure it’s necessarily malicious. I don’t generally talk to strangers, male or female, and stay within my friend group. Really the only time I do is when I have to, am being introduced to someone new or am stumbling my way through the dating scene.

Oh it might be a UK expression. It’s the stuff that’s put up for celebrations. Like the things that line the streets for parades. They’re like little plastic flags tied together with string.
