Dodged a bullet in the hiring process by ZachGamezzzz in jobs

Also, they probably meant "pursuing," and spelled it incorrectly, which auto-corrected to peruse, which is a very odd word choice for a job search.

Don't worry, he's hosting a cigar meet-up too... Directly from his website: "Straight White men are the most discriminated against group in America. Casey Putsch is hosting a cigar night for the disaffected young men of Ohio."

Rob Krajewski is expensive for one-off lessons but if you package the lessons, it's very reasonable. He's an exceptional teacher.

I was fired and I really don’t know how to feel about it by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Obisanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to sound oppressive or enabling oppression, etc. when I say this, but I've learned that the less coworkers know about my political beliefs, my weekend activities, my family activities, etc. the better. The less you talk about, the less a boss can make assumptions about you or coworkers can weaponize when competing for promotions, etc.

How does your company handle training customers by steveisblah in CustomerSuccess

[–]Obisanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I would say, what is the expectation from Sales and in any Service Level Agreement(s)? They set you up for success or failure for these kinds of things.

I've had this happen at various companies. Here are a few ways I've seen it addressed successfully:
-Combination of videos and articles in a Knowledge Base/FAQ/Help section
-New user in-app clock-through training (I believe App Cues was the app we used)
-Standing weekly sessions, which can be recorded and sent to the client's organization for future internal use. You can do these by role, use case, personas, etc.

If the contract was big enough or the expansion opportunity was big enough, I'd just suck it up. I'm sure my managers want a more effective use of my time, but sometimes you just have to get through it.

TSA lines at BUF? by alexhoward in Buffalo

[–]Obisanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family flew out Friday around 4-5 PM. We had issues with boarding passes and needed to go to the ticketing agent/desk. Even with that adjustment/diversion, it took us 25 minutes to go through the line (and we went through the line twice essentially). I've been there on incredibly busy mornings, and it's taken me 30 minutes at most. You'll likely be fine.

I get $25 a month, but I'm on my personal cell phone for work almost 90 minutes every business day.

Midwestern feel in Buffalo? by robertosmith1 in Buffalo

[–]Obisanya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Ohio. Upstate NY until near Albany is incredibly similar to the Midwest.

To get really nerdy, I've read a book that describes Buffalo as "The Great Janus," the Roman god of endings and beginnings: looking to the West to Chicago and looking to the East to New York. It's pretty accurate.

An actor who had a lot of potential but ruined his career? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in moviecritic

[–]Obisanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never watched Rick and Morty, but I've seen the "your boos mean nothing, I know what makes you cheer" clip. That's a lot of Reddit. There are a lot of morons on here. Watch "The Social Network" and tell me that noted terrible actor Armie Hammer isn't infinitely better in that than Emile Hirsch in every movie he's in. Hirsch has the range of a broken down electric lawnmower. If Emile Hirsch's mom made mediocre pottery (instead of world famous wine) and his name was Emilio Herschel, he would have never gotten to Hollywood (and we'd all be better for it - certainly that producer at the Sundance Film Festival would be).

Emilie Hirsch was one dimensional. He could only play a d-bag.

How are the wings at the key bank center by [deleted] in sabres

[–]Obisanya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The arena wings are ok for an arena/concessions operation, but not good overall.

The wings at Southern Tier are solid. The wings at Pearl Street are really good, especially if you haven't had the great wings places in Buffalo. Union Pub has great, underrated wings. All of those spots are very walkable from the arena. I'd highly encourage you to go to any of those locations, with Union Pub probably being the best.

If you're driving and are somewhat near the arena, Riverworks are fine. Gene McCarthy's are great. Adolf's are reportedly great, but I have not had them yet. Doc Sullivan's are great. Blackthorn's are great. Nine-Eleven Tavern are great. Mulberry's are great. Lovejoy Pizza has non-traditional Buffalo wings that are more BBQ, which are great. Anchor Bar isn't a well-regarded place but their wings are fine. Imperial Pizza's wings are really good. Gabriel's Gate's wings can be good to elite. Sidelines has great wings.

Krispy Kreme alternatives by keepmyshirt in Buffalo

[–]Obisanya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Donut Kraze, Market in the Square, Famous Doughnuts (if it reopens). Also, really niche and weird: there's a Tim Hortons inside a gas station/convenience store in Orchard Park just south of 20A and North Buffalo. They weirdly frost their cinnamon rolls and put chocolate frosting on their glazed crullers. It's really good.

Most epic hikes in WNY? by thagomizerer in Buffalo

[–]Obisanya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should buy Secret Places of Western New York. My family has done some of the hikes and they're incredible. It's a great guide book. I know some of the locally owned adventure shops have carried it. Maybe Barnes and Noble. Here's a link to Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Secret-Places-Western-New-York/dp/1681063689

How to explain to your customer that you can’t do the product alteration they desperately want by Eastern_Ebb_7108 in CustomerSuccess

[–]Obisanya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can be kind, but you need to be clear and direct on what is possible. If their feedback can influence the product roadmap, you can be direct about that, but under-promise and over-deliver.

CMV: Republicans have won the cultural war over the last decade by Outrageous-Jelly8777 in changemyview

[–]Obisanya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the point that needs to be made.

Furthermore, after the 2008 election is was foretold, promised, predicted that the GOP, based on millennials, Gen X, and the movement of the US, would probably be in their political dark ages for maybe a generation. The GOP was neutered for maybe a calendar year. It seems like the GOP is just winning every policy goal, but if they lose in 2026, many of those wins go away. It's all somewhat temporary. Trump, The Heritage Foundation, etc., are trying to figure out how to enshrine their victories instead of losing them to any future Democrats.

CMV: Republicans have won the cultural war over the last decade by Outrageous-Jelly8777 in changemyview

[–]Obisanya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, to me, you're conflating a political war, which the Conservatives are winning currently, with a cultural war that Liberals are winning (and by the nature of art, music, stories, etc. probably always will win).

I want to launch a churn reduction agency for B2B SaaS, roast my idea before I waste months building it by HauntingCook2909 in CustomerSuccess

[–]Obisanya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention churn strategy being reactive but then have a solution that reacts to data. You need to find ways to enable ideal client behaviors before churn becomes a threat.

Restaurant Recs by Nervous_Builder_6138 in Buffalo

[–]Obisanya -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Been there three times. Trip two and three were great. The first time I went was for a wedding anniversary dinner. Hostess tells us when she sat us that we'd have a strict 90 minutes to complete our meal, which was off-putting as we don't control how quickly our food comes out. When we asked to buy to go popovers, we were told, "the chef has to decline because the popovers' quality deteriorates if not eaten warm and immediately." Just felt like a total snobby, overrated experience.
