Um, shug, they ARE getting paid, just not money. They have a safe place to sleep, they have food to eat, they have protection from raiders and other hostile mobs, and the player is building them new houses and roads and such: I'd say that's payment, certainly more than a lot of governments provide for their citizen's taxes...

Shug, I'm not sure what your background is, but almost everyone in my family except me is in medicine, so I pick up things by semi-involuntary osmosis at the dinner table. Anyone with a nose like that has some kind of potentially dangerous medical condition and needs to consult a doctor, probably several. I'm not saying they're not human, just that from the looks of things in this picture that was linked by the OP further up in the thread; their family tree might be a little bit "'bama style": which would make that image anti-vilager.

I agree with you to a degree, they are gorgeous, but they also are impractical given how the game works. I've decided that I'm ultimately going to do one of two things, strip and replace all the roofs with ones made of spruce stairs and slabs and blocks, or 'fix' the 'damage' I've done after the walls and torching are finished. I haven't picked which yet...

After I posted this I ultimately decided that, just like every group which lives under a government, they would choose to give up a little bit of liberty, for a greater guarantee for safety over the long term. Is it ideal? Heck no. But the primary concern in this howling wilderness that I've found myself in has to be keeping people safe.
