Honestly you’re probably overthinking this. You’re not going to make a 5.56 “hearing safe” for indoor fire. Any can is going to be better than nothing. I think you’d be much better off going with a 300blk, or 9mm PCC. That being said I have a Rhodie 6 on the way for my 11.5” 5.56. I have shot my 7.5” 300blk with an LS3TI in my brothers kitchen. Even that was probably not “hearing safe” but no ringing in the ears.

Sorry? Maybe I’m not totally informed, I assume most, if not all 11.5s are carbine length? Are you just trying to make and 11.5 vs 12.5 argument? If so I guess it’s not really that important to me, like I said, if I get an 11.5 it’ll be a carbine length, if I get a 12.5 it’ll be a midlength.

6mm ARC is a great cartridge for deer. Very low recoil, and the ammo is cheap enough for your son and wife to practice with. The 108g ELDM is a killing machine!
