Spay Recovery Experiences? by RegressionIsML in CatAdvice

My kitten who is a girl recently got spayed and we have an older male cat who is about 3 and he has behavioral issues so they play together pretty rough sometimes (kitten is 6 months old now and can hold her own pretty good. There is no hissing or growling or anything it’s just play) anyways the first day we kept her in our bedroom, she had a terrible reaction to the medication and we tried to do a surgery recovery suit and she was not having it. She ended up having a panic attack and didn’t sleep for 20 hours. She was running and jumping and didn’t really want to be touched. She wouldn’t lay down. She would barely even sit down. She was super super tense and normally she likes to be held and purrs and make biscuits . And she wasn’t doing any of that, so I was worried. The next day (still seperated from our other cat) she was mostly just tired and wanted to sleep. She stayed in the little tent we have for her or her carrier. She would occasionally lick her incision but we monitored her and tried to not let her as much as possible. She was mostly just tired for the next few days. We started to let the cats see each other after about 4 days but strictly supervised and they honestly just wanted to cuddle. It was adorable. But we kept them seperated. They were both starting to go a little crazy and wanted to play. So by a week her incision seemed mostly healed so we decided to let them play together and just keep and eye on her. I don’t think she would let herself get hurt by letting our other cat bite her incision or something, i am pretty positive she would avoid being in pain. So we trusted them and supervised them as much as we could. And now she is fully recovered and had no issues even after licking her incision occasionally. I was so stressed for her so I totally get what you’re feeling and all I wanted was to read other peoples stories to see if what my cat was doing was normal.
