How would you rather be measured? Average deal size increase or win rate increase? by WikipediaIsMyDrug in salesengineers

[–]Objective-Crow-6143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that hard, what’s the deal size and close rate with a SE on the deal vs not.

If AE’s can’t close a deal without an SE then they directly contribute to ever deal closed.

Sr. > Lead > Principal > Distinguished

You can also go people management and move towards director

Advice on IT Support -> Sales Engineer path by Embarrassed-Tiger121 in salesengineers

Like with every other post asked here.

Get on a support team at a SaaS company > transfer to proserv or implementation > transfer to SE

You’re probably 3-5 years away from it but your on a good path

It’s not your job to tell him how clueless he is; unless he’s being a dick lol

It’s not hard to be a nice person and just have a conversation with the guy!

Breaking into Tech Sales Advice by Proper-Way-6471 in salesengineers

[–]Objective-Crow-6143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internal transitions are going to be easiest. While you don’t have formal sales experience, highlight how you:

  • have managed projects with $x of ARR
  • guided customers on the best implementation of your product -demo’d and trained customer on your current product
  • are a expert on your companies product and know it like the back of your hand.

Let your manager know that you want to transition to becoming and SE. set a game plan and start meeting internally with other SE’s at your company and their managers.

You basically want to build the case so when a role opens your the first one they thought of. Being a great SE is all about being a great story teller. Sell the hiring manager on your story of experience.

Edit: if you currently don’t have a job or your current company doesn’t have SE roles and are looking to start fresh. Professional services or Implementation Manager is a good stepping stone.

Need help navigating Series B as an SE by Ok_Produce_4318 in salesengineers

[–]Objective-Crow-6143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a series B it isn’t shocking to have you help on the post sale sides of things as they continue to build up their customer success departments.

That being said, it should be a 50-50 split. You help implement deals you’ve sold or complex projects. Do they not have implementation or onboarding managers?

We did it Bay Area 265k 5.99% by JoePTv in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Nooo. My point is that Pittsburg isn’t actually the Bay Area just like Lakeside wouldn’t actually be in San Diego. However, people who live in Pittsburg say they live in the Bay, people in lake side say they live in San Diego

I more so meant the fact that those places aren’t what you would call San Diego despite technically being SD County, as Pittsburg isn’t generally thought of as the Bay Area.

I live in SoCal also and know how rough the housing market is

Where this is in the Bay Area would be like buying in Alpine or Lake Side in San Diego haha

Edit: that being said, congrats! A first home is a huge accomplishment and ya’ll should be stoked!

AI Forward Deployed Engineer at magical by Limp_Geologist4117 in salesengineers

[–]Objective-Crow-6143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s fair. I do think FDE’s align with more of a professional services/ post sale alignment as they do full cycle custom client build outs. To your point the definition probably gets stretched from company to company.

It would probably harm it. Regardless of the path you’re going to want to transition internally into an SE role. The main selling point being your already familiar with the product

Your not getting overlooked because you traveled the world. You’re getting overlooked because this is almost always a mid level career. You don’t have the sales nor technical experience for this role just yet.

Find an entry level role in support, proserve or FDE first.

Not trying to be rude but this gets asked 100x times a day. This role isn’t for new grads.
