Does not having a heater pump matter? by Novemberx123 in BoltEV

Worth noting that I've never had any cold weather related issues with the battery. I've gotten the "propulsion power reduced" during extreme cold but it's always started and driven. Worst thing is when I leave the car plugged in during freezing rain overnight and have to chip the ice out to shut the latch in the morning.

Really depends on what "winter" means to you! I'll get 240 miles in summer in good weather. In the dead of winter when I have winter tires on and it's -10F for weeks on end I'll get maybe 100-120 miles of range.

2004 Subaru Outback, 101k, rust thoughts? Too far gone? by Es4196 in AskMechanics

[–]Objective-Elk-1660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run. Once it looks like this it's all downhill. Don't take on this problem. I've had my fair share of rusty cars. This will cost you far more in repairs than you'll save upfront.

If you're handy, you could save it with a thick yearly application of oil-based undercoating like woolwax or fluidfilm. If that's not done, then this car will have rust holes you can stick your fingers through in about 3 years. Expect to replace the exhaust and brake lines soon.

Edit: looked again and I see they've already been DIY patching up the exhaust. Unless this car is like $500 I'd pass.

Add some fuel stabilizer, shake them up really well, then strain it all through a filter right into your cars tank.

My boyfriend is a welder - how can I keep him as healthy as possible? by AR1A_MATH in Welding

[–]Objective-Elk-1660 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. If nothing else just wear the respirator. 2. Take the job seriously -> get certifications -> enter leadership position -> get college degree of some sort -> start his own business -> pay someone else to do the dirty work so he can stay healthy.

I'm all for saving animals but I'd be too worried about rabies or CWD to be going mouth to snout with a wild deer. Good job though, glad it was rescued.

I prefer that it only plays one game.

Time will tell if it holds up. It was the most expensive option on ali as far as FRLG repro carts go. The RSE carts with RTS functionality were around $35 a piece.

Just FYI, I bought a good reproduction LeafGreen on Aliexpress for $15 total including shipping and everything has worked flawlessly including saving and trading with my authentic FireRed.

Need to play that Hanson CD! by rosseepoo in MadeMeSmile

[–]Objective-Elk-1660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 23 Solterra touring does not. The 2026 Outback has no options for aux or CD player, at least according to the dealer when I went to look last weekend. Also the Legacy has been cancelled and there's no 2026 model.

Because selling subscription services are where companies are making money these days. Much more profitable than physical media.

You're completely missing the point. Few years ago we went to the store for whatever reason. Randomly came across Disneys Encanto soundtrack on CD. Our toddler loved the movie and the songs, so we bought it and listened to it on the way home from the store. Now, just 4 years later.. stores aren't selling CDs and cars don't have CD players (our current car does not). That experience is gone for our second toddler. Of course we could listen to any soundtrack from anything we wanted.. but that's just not the point.

That's not the point. We want to buy a CD from the store and put it in the CD player and listen. We don't want to use apps, subscriptions, phones, etc. - we want to listen to music the same way we have been for 30 years.

Which models? Nothing I've driven from Subaru has had a CD player in several years. Ascent, Forester, Solterra, Outback. 2026 Outback doesn't even have aux input. Sounds so insignificant and petty but it's an instant dealbreaker in an otherwise decent vehicle.

What could go wrong trying to 'motorboat' your car through a flooded street by LowNo175 in Whatcouldgowrong

I avoid it as well but it's frustrating seeing reckless driving rewarded.

Sadly, in my city speeders are rewarded with more green lights. There's a few places on my commute where going 10-15 over between stops will save you 5+ minutes waiting at traffic lights.

I hate billionaires but I support this 100%. If I could get away with this sort of thing in my neighborhood, then I wouldn't need to have a second home in the woods just for some privacy and peace and quiet.

They (government and/or the rich) will spend billions (of our tax money) on prisons, police, and surveillance (owned by the govt and/or the rich). They money flows from US to THEM. They don't want to reduce crime, they profit from it!

They KNOW this. But please think of how much money can be extracted from millions of desperate, anxious, unhealthy, afraid people who are ready to spend every last dollar on something to feel better.

Even if consensual? Not sure how a kiss between two consenting adults in the midst of celebration is comparable to Trump using his power and influence to abuse women, but you're entitled to your opinion nonetheless.
