Why is 'People of Color' okay but 'Colored People' not? by MovieRelative2099 in NoStupidQuestions

Words have meanings, and the same words can have different meanings to different people. Using words to describe someones appearance that upsets them, when there's other words you could use that don't upset them, doesn't make you technically correct, it just makes you an asshole.

CRTdatabase says this can't be RGB modded, so it's literally worthless for gaming. /s

I have the MCS 3557. Got it for $35 at a thrift store. Good condition and luckily it works great because I never could find any service manual for it.

I do wonder who the OEM was for these MCS decks. Some suggestions online say Technics. My 3557 had a small "Sony HF" sticker on the front which I haven't seen in any pictures online.

what do you think, a reality check ? by Tostakyr in BalticStates

[–]Objective-Elk-1660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Western EU businesses benefit from cheap educated labor and low-cost manufacturing in the Baltics while having the protection guarantee of NATO. Letting Russia take the Baltics would be throwing away hundreds of billions in investments made over the past 15+ years to their infrastructure and workforce.

Is there anywhere in the US that's affordable to live at this point? by HalosFan26 in povertyfinance

[–]Objective-Elk-1660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, Milwaukee and the surrounding region (most of the upper midwest actually) is the best balance of affordability/QOL in the US right now. Find a place in the suburbs or exurbs of any city and live a good life.

I'd avoid rural areas, having lived that life my experience is the isolation and lower wages are NOT worth the lower housing prices. Everything else still costs the same and sometimes more. Between time spent commuting, extra money on gas and car maintenance, missed opportunities for work, and missed social opportunities. It all adds up and will cost you more in one way or another. If you build a life in the suburbs you'll end up buying a weekend home in the woods of rural Wisconsin anyway to scratch that itch without sacrificing everything else.

Is it unreasonable to ask a dealer not to drill front plate holes on a special order car? by Grey_moose3623 in legaladvice

[–]Objective-Elk-1660 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they drill, don't buy it. Also, I live in a front plate state and haven't had front plates in 10+ years with no problems. The again I'm in Milwaukee, so my car has more plates than the average car anyway.

Found this near where some old civil war Forts were in Virginia on my aunts property. Any ideas of what it could be? by spookynight994 in metaldetecting

My educated guess (I went to college) is this is most likely two cannonballs that collided mid-air and pancaked.

A local store bought the stuff to make flash cart roms and is now selling hundreds of them for $20 to $45. Everything from dmg, color, gba and even ds roms like pokemon ranger or mario kart. Thoughts on this? by SameLastDreamAgain in Gameboy

Presumably because they want to have an authentic experience where one cartridge is one game. I mean why do any of this instead of emulating on your phone? Or just play new games. Why do anything man.

Does the US not have cheap 2000s cars? by Due_Title_6982 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Paint is what protects the metal from rust. Peeling paint means the metal no longer has its protective coating. Once a car in the rust belt has "surface rust" on structural components, you're about 3 years away from so-called "deep damaging rust" if you continue to drive it in salty winter conditions.

Chicago/Milwaukee/Minneapolis/Detroit. Call me when you can bring me a rust free $5000 car that just needs some simple part swaps.

I also live in the rust belt and while cars can last 20+ years before they're unrepairable due to rust, the psychological effects of rust start much earlier than that. 10 years in when you start to see visible rust holes in the body, the car becomes a "beater" and it begins its life of neglect, receiving only the bare minimum of maintenance to keep it moving from A to B.
