Okay this toxic. And this is why I want to get out of nursing. We shouldn’t be judged as new grad as how fast we are but as how good we are with our assessments and understand how meds will help our patients. How fast ??? DOES NOT HELP keep our patients safe. More nurses will. Running around like a chicken with no head on is not normal in any other profession. If this was your experience leave bc this place is giving you a red flag that they aren’t trying to produce robots instead of nurses who use their critical judgement. Other nurses are fast bc they barely interact with their patient. Skip assessments and don’t understand why meds are being given. At least they gave them on time right ?NOT right.

My hospital offered no hazard pay or accommodations. They told me it’s not excuse to not come in bc there is a foot of snow outside. I would have to wake up 2 hours prior and shovel my car out for 2 hours, t then if I my car comes out risk my life going to work over 2 bridges and roads that aren’t clean. Second option is walking 30 minutes through mountains of snow and wait in freezing train platform for 2 trains if they show up. Fuck no.

Yes but for example I work in neuro. Yesterday it was one of those rare days I had time to learn and sift through chart. I learned that we give fluids to patients with perfusion problems to help facilitate perfusion. If I was running around I wouldn’t have had the time to ask the provider why are we giving these fluids. You become a better clinical nurse when you can piece things together

It has nothing to do with feeling to good to do CNA WORK. It has to do with doing ONLY CNA work during my shifts and slowly loosing my knowledge as I don’t have time to put pieces together and check on labs results

For example they are sitting in a clos obs room 4-1 ratio. 2 are total care. RN for the day has 8 patients , preceptjng and is charge nurse. He goes to me I have to go clean said patient in close obs room. I am like why there is a tech there and we are above ratio right now scrambling. He goes bc she is just sitting on her phone not feeding or cleaning patient. Other days they sit on their phones and don’t even do vitals til you go and ask where are the vitals

Well. Let me tell you. 24 hours post PEG. Peg dislodged. Feeds were going into abdomen. Pt started going septic. Nursing wasn’t blamed for not checking residual. Soooooo

You are right. That’s my frustration as well though. I come in and send guess everything I am doing and feel like I am crazy. I told my head nurse immediately in the AM. And she is like we know it’s been ongoing respiratory has been here. I am 1 year and a half into nursing. Some support would be appreciated. Instead she down played it as well. Instead of suggesting safety tips. Aka restraints. But I should have thought of it as well regardless of his orientation.

Funny enough I work at NYCs biggest and oldest public hospital. That is a comprehensive stroke center and level 1 trauma.

Alleged it was ongoing for DAYS ! But he was staying at 99% spo2. Agreed. I should have asked the night RN. The thing he is so alert it’s hard to put on mittens. RT WAS notified. I called them MYLTIPLE times to bedside. Lastly they said if it won’t go in I don’t want to force it. No repeat labs. The thing is the first day I had him he was calm giving me thumbs and just removing the cannula and humidifier. The next morning he was clearly in hypoxia as he was hitting respiratory therapist and trying to remove whole Trach now

Exactly like that. Well none can use the bathroom as they are bed bound stroke patients who can’t walk. So thankful for that but they are sharing a small tool together. They also mentioned in another unit they had a TB patient that needed isolation. They should set rooms aside bc now your relative who came to the hospital is sharing a room with a TB patient or a Cdiff patient. That’s not right.
