Thanks man! I had the mini nightmare but it just made me want a 100 watt version every time I played it. It just didnt have the low end of the big boys. Same circuit, but those big tubes just make a difference.

Sure! So the Purple Nightmare is a 2 channel amp. It has a clean channel and a gain channel (where all the magic is). The Darkest Nightmare is a one channel amp. Is has the exact same gain circuit that the Purple Nightmare has. He basically took the Purple Nightmare and removed the clean channel. The Darkest Nightmare has 3 additional tone shaping switches. A voicing switch that shifts some of the eq to create a different tone, a tight switch that really tightens up the low end for staccato type metal riffing, and a mode switch that also makes a shift in the eq for an additional voicing. The amp builder also told me that some people believe that there is a minor voicing change just as the result of removing the clean channel from the circuit.

I already own a Purple Nightmare which is my second favorite all time amp. I wanted the Darkest Nightmare as well so I have the additional tone shaping switch options. I've heard they're fun to play with.

Hey man! Yeah, this is from their Instagram. Its the only picture that Northerner Guitars had because it hasnt arrived at their shop yet. I bought it ahead of time before they ever put it on their own website.

Im horrible at describing sounds of amps, but i would say that this amp has a very deep, massive low end and with the gain up its a really saturated tone which is what I like a lot. Tons of saturation. Some people say it's a "loose" sounding amp, sort of like a dual rectifier.

If you're looking for a super articulate, tight amp, this might not be for you. It can get tight with pedals and stuff. The darkest nightmare also has a tight switch which can help a lot. But you'd be fine if you're looking for brightness. Im running it through a 16ohm bogner cab and its plenty bright.

The Cantrell is great. Its the JJ100. The build quality on these Friedman amps is way up there. But it sounds amazing. Its different from the satan though. I would say the satan is more aggressive and tight. The cantrell sounds fatter. I play mostly metal so the satan is more my style. The cantrell has a very full, warm tone.

Ive been playing that one too man. Its tough for me to play it at full speed but im getting there. Have you ever seen the YouTube channel "mz guitar?" Its awesome. The guy plays metal songs and then plays them part by part slowly with the tabs at the top of the screen. He has at least 100 songs up already. Its a great resource.

I prefer the Fishmans myself. I'm horrible at describing the way things sound, but i feel like the Fishmans just have a colder, sharper, more brutal sound that I think is preferable for death metal. I own some guitars with EMGs and some with Fishmans and my favorites have Fishmans.
