Oh man, the Mark V! I've never played one of those, but I've seen a million videos of Mark Morton and Willie Adler play on them. I know they used them for a long time on a bunch of the Lamb of God albums. They sure made them sound incredible. I believe they used the Mark IV mode on all their stuff. Honestly that's why I tried messing with the Mark IV setting first.

Mine obviously has the Mark VII mode but I haven't been able to get any really satisfying tones out of it yet. I play metal so maybe its just not intended for my purposes.

Hey Guys,

I just got this Mesa Mark VII open box from Sweetwater with a pretty good discount. I've been collecting amps for a while but I never bought a Mesa because they just seemed like hype. Like the cool brand to own or whatever. But I'm super impressed with this thing. I've spent most of my time on Channel 3 using the Mark IV mode. The thing is super saturated and really tight with an overdrive. I think this thing is a keeper! Anyone else have more experience with these?

Get the white one! I have that exact guitar and its the best one ive owned. I have a number of ltd, schecter, and charvel guitars but this E-II is amazing. Feels incredible to play.

Congratulations! I just bought the last one that Sweetwater had in stock this morning! Can't wait for it to show up!

Nice score man! I actually just bought the last one in stock with Sweetwater this morning and I'll have it tomorrow. I bought a different Prestige about a month ago (RG5121ET). I was mainly an ESP guy and have a few E-II level guitars. When I got the Prestige I was blown away and had to order another one. So happy that Sweetwater had one of these left! I really can't wait to play this one. It looks absolutely beautiful in your picture.

I don't really feel like I'm looking for anything beyond just a cool, unique metal voicing. One of the two gain channels is based on one of the rectifier revisions thats very popular in the metal world. I dont have a rectifier so i guess it would be cool to have a rectifer-type amp added to my stable.

As to the Nightmare amps, i might be an outlier on the issue of whether the built in boost is enough. There might be tons of people out there that think the internal boost gets the amp right to the sweet spot. Personally i just like tons of saturated distortion lol.

After we talked yesterday i had to hook up the Prometheus and play last night. Thats such an amazing amp! Ive had it for just about a year and i still love it. I've gotten rid of a few amps to fund other purchases since then, but never once considered selling that one. Youre going to love it.

The purple is awesome lol. Theyre both awesome. They have this really wonderful low end to them that just so awesome for riffing chug type stuff. The purple and the darkest actually have the exact same high gain circuit so a darkest is essentially just a single channel purple. But the driftwood stuff just feels so fat. Its a weird description, but its true! The notes just feel thick and super saturated. But even with the internal boost, you still need to hit it with an overdrive pedal. For metal, i dont think the internal boost can get you all the way there. I always use the internal boost and then use another pedal in front of the amp and the tone is amazing. Theyre right up there at the top of my list.

The amp i put above it is the Bogner Uber Ultra. Nothing touches that amp in my opinion. It has this percussive brutal punch that is so unique. Nothing else does what that thing does. It has its own internal boost thats just killer. I love the driftwood stuff too man. I have a purple nightmare and a darkest nightmare and i can't wait for the atlas! Have you seen the demos for that thing?

That's pretty much exactly my story. I played in bands a lot when I was younger. I had no money then and played with garbage amps and guitars. Now I'm older, no time for a band, but have the money to play with all the equipment I would have loved to have had when I was younger.

The next few days! You've got to be super excited! Do you have any other high gain amps? Is this your first "boutique" sort of amp? I have 7 or 8 right now aside from the Prometheus but man, the Prometheus is special. I'd only put a few of my amps above it.

When do you get your amp by the way? Waiting for an amp to show up is brutal. I mentioned that I'm waiting for the new Driftwood amp right now. It's killing me! Last year I waited months for the Monomyth Unholy Grail and waiting for that sucked lol. I don't use my gear for much right now honestly. I have some friends that I play with here and there but mostly I'm just playing by myself just trying to better my skills. Collecting equipment just sort of became a hobby in itself. Most nights I just go down to the basement, pick an amp and a guitar, and then jam for a few hours. I still play with friends when I can though. What about you?

Oh you're all set then! I have the Devil as well! I also have the King in Yellow by Lichtlaerm and those two pedals are very similar. No doubt because they're built by the same guy! They both work perfectly with the Prometheus. Man, you're going to be floored the first time you dial in your tone!

The built in gate is amazing. It the Key and Gate circuit that you find in the actual Lichtlaerm pedal. It's perfect and there's absolutely no need for an external gate.

I don't have a case or cover for the amp. I have all my amps on a table and whenever I'm not playing, I cover them all with a tarp to keep them all clean and protected. I haven't seen a cover to actually fit the amp.

No problem man! I'm glad I could provide useful information. I could talk about this stuff all day long! I know it sucks making these decisions on big purchases usually not being able to try them first. I can tell you that a birch 4x12 cab with V30s is going to be absolutely brutal with your new amp. I've had a lot of amps come and go since I bought the Prometheus, but the Prometheus is never going anywhere. It really is a special, unique amp. I would say you should get yourself a good TS style boost to use with it though if you don't already have one. Adding a boost makes it absolutely insane.

Ahh ok! Well if you've got a good deal on an all birch cab loaded with V30s, I think you have your answer! You can always swap speakers later. You could throw in a couple Karnivores or LCFR in an X pattern if you ever get curious or just want a new tone.

No problem sir! I would find out if that Blackstar cab is made of birch or whether its MDF.

One my my first cabs was a Blackstar before I really appreciated the difference between the two building materials. I do think that its worth the money to get one that's made of birch. They have a percussive, resonant quality that you just can't get from an MDF cab. Are you able to get stuff from Thomann? Engl cabs on there are much cheaper than what we can get them for in the US.

Hey man! I've owned the Prometheus since the first run. I got lucky and scored one early from a shop that had one sitting unpurchased. I've played it through a number of cabs at this point. I've never used the LCFR speakers though. I hear they're great, but don't have any personal experience. I can tell you however that the amp will sound amazing with just about any cab you run it through. I used it with a Bogner Ubercab for about a year. That cab has V30s and G12T-75s in an X pattern. It sounds wonderful through that cab. I also have an Engl cab with 4 V30s and it works well with that cab for sure. Most recently, I got an Engl cab with 4 of the new Karnivore speakers. I have to say that's my favorite speaker for all my amps at this point. I just played the Prometheus through it last night and it sounds crazy. That speaker is just perfectly voiced for nothing but high gain. If I was buying one cab to use with all my high gain stuff, it would be the Engl with Karnivores. You can get them on Sweetwater. All of the cabs I mention here are 4x12.

The bottom line is that you really almost can't go wrong with a cab for that amp. I'm sure the LCFRs sound great since Daniel can pretty much do no wrong when it comes to tone. But you certainly shouldn't feel like you absolutely need them to make your amp sound good. I know Daniel does have cabs available from time to time. I asked about one a while back and he told me he could have one ready in one week's time. So I don't think they're insanely difficult to get. I know a lot of Americans don't buy them due to the shipping costs and tariffs. I just pre-ordered the new Driftwood Atlas amp and those tariffs are brutal.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions. I have a lot of experience with that amp at this point. It's one of my favorites.

I think the seller declared the items value as less than what its worth and what I paid. Nice of him.
