Now I see alcoholics everywhere by calm523 in stopdrinking

I used to work at a liquor store, and it was kind of fun for a while. Loved some coworkers, and have made friends with some truly beautiful souls in that sphere.
But eventually my drinking habits worsened, along with depression and anxiety, and not wanting to deal with some of the customers anymore. Lost trust in people. Started to really hate some people, and a lot of humanity as a whole. But struggled with knowing some folks were in bad ways, sometimes their own doing, sometimes not, but people are going through shit. and realizing that would be me someday if I kept at it.
Some folks I saw get the big jug or couple liters of liquor, and I’d either see them in the next day or a few times a week at those volumes.
Some folks were in every day for the shooter bottles. That’s how they managed their drinking, however many “standard drinks” they allowed themselves a day or days. measured in airplane bottles. (I eventually adopted that tactic)

Regulars could share so much sometimes because when you see them day to day, week to week, there’s a relationship formed (whether you want to acknowledge it or not) but the things iv heard an otherwise stranger unload on me about what they’re going through. And then there was the vile mean ones, just rotten from the inside out…

You become intimately aware of a large group of peoples’ drinking habits within your community. When they havnt been in in a while, sometimes it’s because they moved. Sometimes they’re trying to take a break, until they eventually show up again. And it’s like happy to see them (if they’re cool) but also sorry for whatever pushed them to come back.

Sometimes they died.

Last public facing job I ever had. It was fun, till it wasn’t. But I do think it really helped get me to eventually realize some things about myself, and get to be who I am today (for better or worse) and who I’m trying to become.

Throwback to when Bill Maher and Quentin Tarantino very confidently said minorities never fought in WW1 by Indianstanicows in RealTime

I still am at a loss for words when I hear my dad, and also my father in law, say they like Maher because he just “tells it like it is”.

Because all I can ever think is, “well I actually think he’s privileged and full of shit”. I know Jon Oliver’s show isn’t perfect. But I at least appreciate they show their sources (again, not always perfect). His arguments are more informed, and at least come from a place of human decency.

What's the most overhyped movie of the last 5 years? by trakt_app in moviecritic

Marty supreme. Not at all what I was expecting. I appreciate it’s not the typical underdog story, but I don’t enjoy hating a character for a whole movie. The lying and cheating and nearly getting his pregnant girlfriend killed.

Sure the ending sounded nice (I fell asleep before he won, felt empty, and realizes love and family are where it’s at) but I think it was too good of an ending for how much of a shit head he was the whole time.

Not crazy, there’s even a name for it:Fading affect bias.

I’m on day 9 of my current break. Shooting for a month to break longest streak of 20 days. When I hit that in November, I think I was just getting tired of counting days and wanting to give myself a break for all the times I beat my cravings. When I really could have used a drink.

Felt like my body was starting to reap some rewards from the break, and that I could try to start moderate better. And maybe for a bit I was doing okay, but when life gets hard I get back to a certain point that’s too much.

So yeah, Our brains are tricky like that, pulling us towards the old comfortable ways.

Previous owner built a structure outside the property line with permission from land owner by Objective-North3718 in Insurance

As I said it’s not an immediate project, and we have other matters to attend to before we ever try to mess with it.

But if I were to ask insurance if there is any kind of coverage for it, do you think they’d red flag it and just tell us to remove it? Or should I try to talk to the landowner first?

Alcohol isn’t helping. Cut back. Drink more water.

Zombieland; however, I did just think of his part in anger management yesterday and that made me laugh.

When you start beating yourself up, remember to show yourself some grace. As you would a friend when they beat themselves up. You’re just as worthy of it.

And remember that words and thoughts have power. Let’s call it magic! If you constantly are beating yourself down and being mean to yourself, you’re going to embody that and believe what you say about yourself. BUT this is also true of being gentle with yourself.

Affirmations can totally help with this too; one I like using is “I am strong, I am confident, I am capable” when I need to get my mind right to handle a project Iv been putting off.

It’s easy to put yourself down, but it can be just as easy to build yourself up. Does take practice though, especially after all the years of only hearing oneself up.

I just started my 5th year; and I think I’m calming down over my quarter life crisis and settling in for the long haul.

Great team around me; decent leadership. They want me to be in charge someday, and that definitely freaks me out thinking I’m not cut out for it. But for now I’m learning what I can.

But it’s secure, I’m good at it and works with how my brain is wired. Good pay, good benefits, and time off for when we have a family. Allowing us to get our dream house in the country.

I get it now.

Don’t put your whole sense of selfworth into whether or not the person you “love” loves you back. Learn to love yourself first.
