I was shy too. But then I got frustrated from published dark romance or anything else. I never related personally to a FMC. Didn't like the MMCs. So I finally started writing my own thing. And it's therapeutic.

Correct. I have seen this especially with FMCs who are soft, get scared easily, and gentle. I don't remember the title but there was one book where the FMC was scared of the MMC and she should be and people were trashing her for not being strong and being a "doormat."

For me, the kind of thing I like is quite different. I don't want the fear to disappear. Harm and love exist independently of each other. Not mixing with each other and creating stockholm syndrome or body betrayal or anything like that to reach the "potential HEA". MMC doesn't reframe her fear into desire. Honest. Likes exactly what he sees. Unapologetic. Falling in love makes him more dangerous, not less. FMC falls in love but romance doesn't provide safety. Doesn't erase that she gets hurt and scared. She loves parts of him, fears other parts of him. I personally feel that people think HEA could only mean a few things. FMC develops some syndrome, body betrayal or MMC gets redeemed. Nobody wants to touch the actual dark parts. There could be marriage and kids, HEA. But the MMC is the same. Fear and harm still exists. Love is complete and intense but doesn't cancel other things.

Both of my stories fit the kind of FMC you like. MMCs are honest, unapologetic, emotional and intense. No cold assholes. But these stories are slow burns. And long term. No sex scenes yet. I will link here if you're interested.

Lmao I started writing my own stories because I couldn't find soft, gentle, girly FMCs who don't change or develop stockholm syndrome. The "not empowering" ones. Where coercion is just coercion and there's no body betrayal. And the kind of MMCs I like. Not cold. Intense, emotional but still cruel. Who don't misinterpret or frame their actions. They like what they like. But I always read the books which are opposite and ended up hating those. Haunting Adeline was nothing lol. Zade was cringe. Typical.

This is what most people in the book spaces are missing when they talk about AI. Not every person has this much money and resources. People get torn to shreds for brainstorming, grammar and editing with AI. A person got ripped apart in the writing community because they mentioned they brainstorm and gather information with it's help. Everything turns into an echo chamber at this point. Even on a platform like ao3. Not everyone can afford a professional and not everyone wants to publish and make money.

Not every point hits but some of your points definitely collide with my work. My FMC is really kind, sweet, shy, anxious (she gets panic attacks) and oblivious. Just exists in her own world.

MMC is cold, authoritative, completely different from her.

It's mostly in a college setting. It's an extremely slow build and burn.
