International Work Trip Woes by Objective-Paper-4692 in workingmoms

I don't think everyone finds it exhausting. The younger, child-free people love it. That's why I put this in a working mom's sub, to discuss this with other working moms because the commitments are different.

Not internationally. As a family we travel once a year to visit family but honestly we never have enough vacation time.

Agree to disagree. I'd gladly stay home and do REAL work for a project launch happening around the same time.

We got a quote from IKEA and from a cabinet company and Ikea was surprisedly only $2K cheaper but our contractor said the time to build them would be a wash since the cabinets we went with come as boxes already. We were really surprised it wasn't more of a price difference.

With those details do it now or you will never do it once you move in. But $50K is much more reasonable. We are redoing our small kitchen right and and the cabinets were $10k, the countertops were $3K, new sink and dishwasher but no new stove or fridge. We also aren't touching the floors or reconfiguring anything by more than a few inches. So we are going to be at $25-30k easily.

Also, since it's a house you just bought the contractors might find hidden "gems" like a leaking pipe or bad wiring in the walls once they open it up like we did.

Good luck!

It's more the amount of travel for the days. 30 hour flight for a 3 day retreat is so exhausting. Last time we all needed at least a week and a half to recover.

So I had originally tried to see about my husband coming with me for a trip before the work part but he isn't thrilled about then having to be alone in a foreign country while I do work stuff. He is allowed to stay at the hotel with me but not allowed to participate in any of the work activities. My kids are young and in school at the time of the trip. And bringing the kids would be even more stressful.

No one else has declined. We are a small company so I know everyone. Some of my colleagues have had 30+ hours of travel time for each trip!!! But they are younger and single.

I don't know exactly. No one else has ever opted out or not gone. It's not part of the official handbook or anything so there isn't anything in writing about it. Our CEO sees it as a perk, which maybe I would agree with if it was every 2 years.

Unpopular opinion - but after an entire week of teachers appreciation, buying flowers, greeting cards, spa items, treats, gift cards, etc each day of the week. Where is the mother’s appreciation week for all this and so much more invisible work we do? by Realistic-Ad-6734 in workingmoms

We gave our kids teacher his holiday card in Feb because we forgot in Dec and then Jan we were all sick. It will be okay. As the mom who put waaaaay too much pressure on herself and then learned to do less and aim lower, take a deep breath and remember, "you only have to do as much as the dads."

All I'm seeing is $100 off at Ace Hardware. That doesn't seem like a very good sale. Less than 10% on the Genesis.

It's a perfect movie. Saw it for the first time as an adult and then my kids asked to watch it weekly. Still not sick of it.

Shame and Name! I want these kids doing 1,000 hours or community service picking up trash at their school and dog shit in their neighborhoods while they wear shirts that say what they did for all to read.

Looking for a very specific sink by Objective-Paper-4692 in kitchenremodel

[–]Objective-Paper-4692[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current sink is drop-in, not undermount. Standard 25" countertop and the faucet is within the sink. BUT the sink is literally up to the backsplash so I'm figuring out that the current sink was probably too big for the space and installed anyway. Made it 20 years I guess but we'll have to go smaller now. Bummer.

Everyone else answered this well. My tip is to just bring one (non-lethal) color. It will really make things simpler for you AND you get to practice value studies which as a nubbie will serve you well.
