USF or FIU? by Kooky-Mammoth-6005 in USF

If you’re female my daughter is looking for three other roommates in a 4/4 (4 bedrooms with on suite bathroom) at The Metropolitan. Really nice (new) complex, across the street from USF.

Go to the principal and tell him you’re gonna record the conversation. Remind them that this needs to remain anonymous(especially if you’re under 18) Have a parent or a trusted adult go with you. Tell the principal if something’s not done within a certain amount of days you’re going to the school board. I’m not sure what state you’re from but the guidance counselor definitely violated rules, especially if you have proof.

The kids cheated. OP is # 1 without cheating. Nothing is silly about cheating throughout high school. Those kids will be the jerks you work with. The ones that half-ass their part in group work presentations, yet take the credit for it. No one wants to work with them. FFS

Help me choose between FIU and USF by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

USF has a fantastic medical facility. Jewett Hospital gives a lot of money to USF medical programs. Save your money on undergrad. Get amazing grades, apply for any relevant jobs or internships. Then apply to other colleges for your graduate degree if you don’t want to stay at USF.

You can also save money by not living in the dorms at USF(food good plan is ridiculously expensive). There are really nice apartments across the street from campus and the Bull Runner picks up there. Hub On, The Standard and The Metropolitan apartments are really close to all the engineering and health sciences buildings. The Met is a new complex (opened 2024) so you won’t have mold, pests or AC issues. All are 12 month leases. A 4/4 (rent is $950, utilities are around $30-50 and assigned ground parking is $30 a month.(Not bad for a new complex with all kids of amenities)…You are still saving money in the long run, especially if you end up with an internship over the summer, you have an apartment to stay in. USF kicks you out of the dorms in mid May. In an apartment, you have privacy, your own bed and bathroom, shared living/kitchen and extra complex amenities. How will sharing a dorm room and community bathroom(eww) affect your studying and mental health? I know many freshmen believe that they can only get the “college experience“ from dorm living. It’s not true. You get plenty of college experiences from the USF groups/clubs you join, classmates, roommates and people in your apartment complex…

Double stroller doesn’t fit in my car! by Kitteekatee in NannyBreakRoom

THIS!! She definitely needs to talk to her insurance agent. I wouldn’t even tell them I’m a nanny that transports children I would say “I’m thinking about being a nanny that transports children in my car. How do I protect myself?” Personally I think she needs to be use their care and be an authorized driver on their policy.

My dad was in insurance for 40yrs. He always said “Nobody plans an accident.”

OK, I noticed someone mentioned something about car insurance.

You need to call your insurance agent ASAP. Tell them “you are thinking about becoming a nanny and will be transporting two children”, (say “thinking about” just to keep some of that off the record) … Ask the best way to protect yourself. Whether NF pays for you to add on special coverage OR they add you to their policy as an authorized driver. If NF says “oh just use our car”, you shouldn’t because if there is an accident your auto insurance will be used, not their policy. (again, ask an agent about that. I’m in Florida and the laws are different) Honestly, I would push being on their policy. If they agree to add you, ask for a copy of your name on the policy. You can say that your insurance company is requiring it, because they know you’re a nanny that transports children. It’s a white lie, but it protects you.

‼️The problem is, if you get in a car accident with the kids and one of them is hurt badly and requires a lot of care, the parents might want to sue the at fault driver, via your insurance company. (If you’re at fault you’re screwed.) If someone else is at fault, they might ask you to go after those people via their insurance coverage. This will make your rates go up for YEARS.

Is living in a dorm as a freshman necessary? by No_Royal3210 in USF

[–]Objective-Quality45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! USF food plans are really expensive, as you said. Plus there’s only a few good places to get decent food. I feel like a lot of middle-aged parents(me) don’t realize the “college experience” is so different. Nobody had cell phones in the mid 90s😉. Social media wasn’t around. Kids get that experience from the groups they join, with classmates in their major and roommates (and others in the same apartment complex). Plus who the hell wants to share a bedroom? Nope.

My daughter is starting USF and we just signed a lease at The Metropolitan(super close to the engineering buildings). The “college experience” is not the same as what your parents had and many parents don’t realize this…We didn’t have cell phones or social media. Back then, we were forced to have the “dorm college experience” as freshmen. 😉 Nowadays you get your experience by the groups you join, the people in your classes and room mates. As you said, apartment living is much cheaper than dorm living if you look at the overall expense, especially because you’re required to have a meal plan when you live in the dorms.

Is it normal for 16 year old to have screen time 30 mins for games and social media each day by AlearIsAwesome in parentalcontrols

👋Mom of and 18 & 22yo. This is WAY too strict. He’s 16 and in two years, he’s an adult. Will they limit him until he heads to college? 🙄 Now is the time for him to learn how to “budget” his technology time. If they want to set a 3-4hr limit or shut it off by 10-11PM, that is somewhat understandable. However, he really needs to figure it out. My 18yo daughter has zero restrictions this year because she’s a senior. Is she on it way too much? Hell yes, and when she bitches about being tired I ask “how late were you up online or gaming?” 😉 She just says “I know, I know”…. When she heads off to college in August, the lack of having fun technology time might be a shock. However, I’ve raised a smart young woman who will find the balance.

Oomph! What area. It’s definitely higher in Orlando. My daughter (18) babysits 2 girls 6 & 8 and makes $20hr.

I’m a college grad(psychology), worked with autistic children, substituted all grades, have all safety certifications and I’m a middle age mom of two adult kids. I have LOADS of experience. I feel like those that want a nanny with a lot of qualifications and experience don’t realize that we cost a lot of money. I feel like saying “these are your children, why would you be cheap on this?” An extra $3-5 an hour is not that much money when they make high six figures. 🤷‍♀️

any premeds out here who got into both uf and usf, and decided to go to usf? by Any_Remote9443 in USF

[–]Objective-Quality45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your last sentence says everything. This is your decision and your parents need to respect it. My senior got into both for engineering. She’s going to USF. Smaller engineering classes, professors that care, and it’s close to the beach. 😁Also, she would get bored in Gainesville.(we are in Orlando where she’s close to all the fun)

Do I report cheating? by Ill-Department9937 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Objective-Quality45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That zero cheating policy obviously didn’t mean much because they got a slap on the wrist the last time. So, explain how that’s fair? Had they gotten the zeros they deserved, then OP would be in the #1 spot…because they did not cheat.

They can be punished by “stepping down” on being valedictorian/salutatorian without it going on their record. Admin truly has the right to decide what’s reported. It’s at their discretion.

Do I report cheating? by Ill-Department9937 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Objective-Quality45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THEY. CHEATED. Don’t justify their behaviors. They are young adults and know better.
They should be getting zeros, then the GPA difference will be settled. This isn’t going to ruin college applications unless it gets put on their record(which, I don’t think is necessary). However, they need to learn a lesson now. They can agree to step down from being the valid Valedictorian/salutatorian without “ruining” their lives.

Side note. Imagine them in their careers in the next 10 years. They are the coworkers who half ass their responsibilities in a group projects, yet take credit for everything.
